Jones & Gresham
What do we do with these guys?
They are not midfielders, both can win a clearance and are two of our better center bounce players but if the don’t win the ball they don’t defend, don’t run hard both ways and only compete when the ball is within 5 meters then give up and stand flat footed.
Jones has zero trade value, is worth retaining on a minimum contract but he’s a C grade midfielder and will never be any better. Has pace and can be hard at it when in form. Perhaps he plays forward or replaces Stocker in the back half.
Gresham can win a clearance, do something special and spectacular but his effort and intensity looks like that of a player who is leaving at season’s end. Disappointing we can’t get the most of his undoubted talent. I think he’s best suited forward with bursts on the ball.

Re: Jones & Gresham
Jones showed a bit today, but faded maybe due to still not fully match fit, but Gresh is bringing little to the table and after injuries, I think his best was a few years back. Jones in patches showed more desire than Steele and Crouch at the contest today.

Re: Jones & Gresham
Gresham still kicks the ball like an U15. I'm not sure what he's good for. I can't see him at St Kilda next year. What does he bring?
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Jones & Gresham
Jones played a Jones game, ran hard when we had the ball, fumbled like someone who's missed a lot of AFL level football, poor disposal proving an angry face doesn't help you hit targets. Becoming the quintessential list clogger. Paddy Dow can take his list spot.
Gresham is definitely playing like someone who knows he's gone or has been offered a contract half the size of what he wants. Still kicks the ball like it's a balloon. Poor vision and awareness for someone of his experience and alleged class. Another who only runs hard when we have possession. Seemingly only tackles when he can't get out of the road. Played midfield & forward for ZERO tackles.
St Kilda is in a rock & a hard place with Gresham. Unfortunately deals such as the Chad Wingard, Karl Amon ones won't be coming St Kilda's way.

Re: Jones & Gresham
That whack to his hip from Be Long hampered him today, plus, i think he got another knock to the same hip some time later.
Will he play next Sunday or will he be out injured, that's what i'm interested in, re the toeball.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Re: Jones & Gresham
Gresham is one of the most disappointing players I have seen at St K
129 games, he should be at the top of his game
Should be ripping up games like yesterday, he should be our point of difference
Not letting duds like Atkins rake up 32 disposals

Re: Jones & Gresham
What are the chances next year of another worldwide health crisis like the Covid pandemic or similar new virus?
If they reduce the game time to 16 minutes again and the season is reduced to 17 games, I think they can both be valuable players

Re: Jones & Gresham
He is selfish in the way he plays. He had a couple of chances in the first quarter and all he's interested in is kicking goals for himself or tallying up possession stats for himselfterry smith rules wrote: ↑Sun 16 Jul 2023 10:56am Gresham is one of the most disappointing players I have seen at St K

Took a mark in the middle and took 2 steps. Umpire called him back. Phillipou was running past but he didn't give it off. He ended up choosing the wrong option and Sun's started flooding back.
The other time in that 1st quarter was when Mason Wood was 35m out from goal on his own and Gresh bombed it long to a pack in the square. No score - the Suns got the rebound.
Doesn't move the football on quickly. Doesn't share the footy with someone in a better position. Doesn't get front and square and prefers to hang out the back of a pack for a soft goal.
We didn't have many inside 50's in the first quarter and he probably had 2 of the best chances to create a scoring opportunity for us but he failed to do anything constructive.

Re: Jones & Gresham
I think Gresham's season can be summed by the goal he kicked, it was going through anyway without his involvement.

Putting my differences aside for a moment, but Scollop is right. Gresham is very selfish.Scollop wrote: ↑Sun 16 Jul 2023 3:43pmHe is selfish in the way he plays. I caught the same passages of play that Scallop mentioned and it infuriated me.
He needs to go at years end. Happy to swap Gresham and first rounders with Carlton and Paddy Dow. He kicks the ball across his body like he’s a junior. I’ve seen him a lot in Whittlesea and I don’t like his demeanour.

Gresham was allegedly a worthy rival to Hannebery in some off field pursuits.
Not sure if his on field performance has suffered as a result but he sure is disappointing!

Most young blokes go out and partake. Could be one of the reasons some of them are inconsistent (maybe Bailey Sniff has had a drop off due to his off field pursuits)whiskers3614 wrote: ↑Sun 16 Jul 2023 8:31pm Gresham was allegedly a worthy rival to Hannebery in some off field pursuits.

Only the very elite and the hardest workers on the track get away with it NOT affecting their performance on game day

Neither most elite or hardest working.
Struts around like a rockstar but can’t back it up when chips are down.
Posters on here quick to bag Billings but Gresham seems to get away with inconsistent efforts!

Re: Jones & Gresham
Gresham chooses when he wants to try and when he doesn’t!! His disposal is ordinary and he should’ve been traded years ago!
Jones is hard at the ball but always gets caught trying to do too mut, his disposal is also very ordinary
f*** them both off!!!
