How bad are the others? Still 6th!
Loved watching the other results yesterday
Every goal Geelong kicked pushed the bombers lower, then the beauty of the GWS win, pushing us back up to 6th
Bottom line, we are still breathing (even though we may be the worst 6th side in history)
Footys a funny game

It’s not where we are now
It’s where we’ll end up
12th-14th imo

Re: How bad are the others? Still 6th!
Quite possibly
But we can still get some enjoyment out of Ess and WB supporters heads explode as they battle for a spot
After all it is only a week ago that people were saying Essendon could be a wild card in the 8
Geelong have a propensity to put upstart teams back in their place (don’t we know it)

Re: How bad are the others? Still 6th!
statistically this is the worst year in terms of performance since statistics started being recorded, a really big gap in quality of lists after about 3-4 on the list.
The quality of footy is also fairly average across the comp.
Covid years possibly still having an effect.
But make no bones about it, we might be 6th in terms of ladder metrics, but in terms of list quality and performance we would be bottom 4 in any ordinary year pre 2019.
Actually starting thing making the finals this year would paper over cracks, big cracks.
We need a rebuild, it's just the magnitude that is up for debate.

And we will stay in 6th for the next two weeks. Because we play 17th and 16th both at Marvel.
Really bad performance yesterday, but I would expect a response this week against North, and because Hawthorn beat us last time we won't be caught out like that again twice in one season.

Rebuild?
Lol we're not an aging list. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Yes we will see some serious turn over of the list over the next few years but the core is there to build around- as opposed to rebuilding.
Core group
Sinclair, Marshall, Steele, Wilkie, Billings, Gresham, Clark, Coffield, Pou, Milera, Owens, Windhager, Higgins, King.
Supporting cast
Wood, Hill, Howard, Butler, Battle, Webster, Hayes, Crouch, Membrey
Depth
Ross, Bytel, Sharman, Stocker, Cordy, Paton
Developing/Unknown
Byrnes, Heath, Adams, Van Es, Alison, Connolly, Horton, Keeler, McClellan, Peris, Cammaniti
Gone (imo)
Highmore, McKenzie, Campbell
Bottom 3 groups are where the turnover should happen. Doesn't mean we overpay to keep the likes of Gresham but they're not the problem with our list.
Core group is strong, depth the issue.

Lyon won’t rebuild
At 57yo with 4 years left to coach
Do you think he will spend the next 3 years dropping to the bottom of the ladder
If he does
He will have coached 16 seasons with no premiership
Which will be an AFL record
He is all about his legacy - so it won’t happen!

Glad to hear it- we as a club can't afford another rebuild either.

Re: How bad are the others? Still 6th!
He was rebuilding at Freo and spent the past 4 years of a 7 year tenure in the bottom 4 with a winning percentage of 33%, and that was at a club with resources in a two team state.B.M wrote: ↑Sun 16 Jul 2023 12:30pm Lyon won’t rebuild

Surely he's not thinking he can quick fix the list an win silverware.
I get the legacy thing as he's an ego maniac but surely he's not that incompetent when it comes to rebuilding at a poor club like ours.
Will need possibly up to 10 years to pinch a flag.

It looks OK on paper but how many play to the standards of your perceived player potential consistently? And surely you realize we are in an assessment year of a rebuild.nostalgicsaint wrote: ↑Sun 16 Jul 2023 12:05pm Rebuild?

Moral of the story.... don't throw the baby out with the bath water.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

BUMP
We win tomorrow and we're back in 6th spot.
After today's win by Richmond... and Carlton's recent form they've pushed us out. Tigers very arsey. They kicked the last six goals in a row in the last quarter
We're out of the top 8 currently (live ladder)
Richmond, Geelong, Carlton, GWS and Sydney are coming

Bloody Richmond and Carlton in the eight now!
St Kilda are 9th. % of just 104!
We will obviously leap over them if we win, but we won't get Carlton's 116%.

Re: How bad are the others? Still 6th!
Doing the homework on 'favourites' to win - we can make the finals if we win 4 out of 6 games. I'm assuming we lose to Cats and Lions. Must beat Carlton. Carlton or Essendon likely to pinch our spot. But let's face it - Hawks still a danger game and beating Blues and Tigers is still tough. Shame to stay in top 8 for 19 weeks.

Will be lucky to win 2 on current form.
The fanboys will rejoice in moving up a couple of spots in the draft.

Re: How bad are the others? Still 6th!
having watched
- eassendon and the dogs
- brisbane and geelong
- Pies v Port
these last couple of days
I can tell tell you three things
1. The others arent that bad
2. They turn up to play and deliver great games
3. We're a long way off the mark
and now we're out of the 8
Nothing short of 100 point thumping of North would get me excited and reignite some belief, dare I say "hope" - even just a happy surpise anomaly, just one FFS - luike thoese unexpected once in a season wins we'd get back in the day at Moorabbin - these "f*** you" wins that galavanized us
But nah, it'll be another shitty close (almost unwatchable) game with no surprises - we may win, they may win scenario - who cared whio gets the points now
Pretenders always get found out, and I'm sorry, but we've been nothing but pretenders for too long a time

Re: How bad are the others? Still 6th!
Richmond are building momentum at the right time of the year. Will be difficult for Mini to miss out on the top job if he can get Richmond to qualify for finals
Carlton, GWS, and Sydney are playing good footy too
The Bulldogs vs Collingwood was one of the best games of the year a couple of weeks back and the Dogs are a danger to the top teams if they advance after week 1.
Meanwhile...we are hoping our 'stars' will have some pride and somehow manufacture some connection and care for each other tomorrow

Looking grim. Pathetic that the usual losers on here some take solace in that.
