Bytel
Bytel can't get a game, others get games despite poorer stats at Sandringham.
I can only think of a few possibilities why.
1. Serious undisclosed disciplinary action
2. He has been McGoughed deemed too slow at AFL level but able to star at the slower pace of the VFA/VFL level. McGough was hopeless in the AFL but a dominant in the seconds.
3. His disposal is considered atrocious
4. He refuses to play to orders.
5. He is so despised by senior members of the playing group that they would refuse to play with him.
Any more suggestions

Re: Bytel
Vortex told RTB that he's had enough of a sample size to conclude that Jack Bytel isn't a player who'd be able to stand up and be counted in the last 5 minutes of a Grand Final

Which other players get games despite poorer stats at Sandringham?
Membrey?
Billings?
Highmore?
But I do like the question. Fair enough.
I have already questioned it too. Training application? But I, like us all, find it a tad perplexing.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Re: Bytel
I think this sums it up.
If you can’t cover the ground you have to be seriously elite in other areas.
Like Dunstan and Constable.
Great VFL players, depth at AFL level.
Compare him to Byrnes, Bytel is a better pure footballer, but Byrnes is quick and a very good repeat endurance runner.

Re: Bytel
Very much a like for like strategy used by Lyon - Hence Peris in to replace small forward Billings despite not being the next best footballer at Sandy.
As pointed out behind Ross, Crouch, Steele and WIndy as inside mid.
Future maybe marked or perhaps dependent on what Ross does next season.

Re: Bytel
I love seeing Jack Peris get a game and while he is a small forward or winger, and not an on baller like Bytel, he does not have a tenth of Bytel's football ability, at least at this stage.
So I have to agree with Ace. I am disappointed with the levels of selection integrity or lack of it, currently being shown down at Moorabbin.

Re: Bytel
I assume Clark concern would be fitness, and he’ll play as sub.

Re: Bytel
If North had've had any respect for the saints they would have been fair in their offer for clark, but, alas, they took the pi55 and we still have him.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Re: Bytel
I think this it it. Stuck behind similar types. Probably would do OK if he gets the chance, but will need an injury or drop in form to get a gig.Teflon wrote: ↑Thu 13 Jul 2023 11:37pmHe’s not good enough to replace Crouch or Steele and doesn’t offer the difference of say….Windhager??ace wrote: ↑Thu 13 Jul 2023 11:13pm Bytel can't get a game, others get games despite poorer stats at Sandringham.

Re: Bytel
He wants fit players. If Bytel was as fit as Ross and Crouch he would definitely get more games. If Clark was an endurance beast like Crouch, Seb Ross, or Byrnes who can all keep running right up until the final siren, he too would be straight back into the starting line up
Watching the match last night (Melbourne vs Brisbane) it was blatantly obvious that fitness is key if you want to run out a game and keep fighting to get a win.
Kosi Pickett won two critical contests (one in the air and 1 on the ground) and kicked a goal in the last quarter to Strat the Dee's comeback
Gawn won countless contests to allow his mids first use and he also took contested marks. He is a great runner.
Viney won a critical contest to put Melbourne within 5 points of winning. Viney just keeps running
Melksham was huge. He was the one that took a contested mark on the wing to give Kosi that first goal that gave them a sniff. And then he bangs in two goals with one of them coming from a massive contested mark and then he slotted the match winner
But all of these Melbourne players have elite fitness
One of the many things I took from the game, is that you have to win contested footy to beat the top teams.
I think both Clark and Bytel have shown glimpses, and they have the tools to be good ball winners. Let's hope they can improve their endurance and help us improve as a team

Let’s do the Aussie super and compare the pair because IMHO the only person I can see him pushing out is Windhager.
Windhager (with top 3 in all appearances in the preseason time trial because Ross Lyon likes a runner)
Started: 2022
Games played: 29
Total goals: 6
Disposals: 12.6 (below avg for a mid)
Kicks: 5.9 (below avg for a mid)
Handball: 6.7 (below avg for a mid)
Marks: 2.4 (below avg for a mid)
Tackles: 2.6 (below avg for a mid)
Clearances: 1.5 (below avg for a mid)
Awards and other: Nab Rising Star Nomination, Clubs Best emerging player award.
Now Bytel who had a subpar time trial and constantly gets injured - think back to his draft year when he was touted top 10 and did his back.
Started: 2020
Games played: 21
Total Goals: 2
Disposals: 7.2 (below avg for a mid and Windy)
Kicks: 3.6 (below avg for a mid and Windy)
Handball: 3.6 (below avg for a mid and Windy)
Marks: 2.0 (below avg for a mid and Windy)
Tackles: 2.2 (below avg for a mid and Windy)
Clearances: 1.0 (below avg for a mid and Windy)
Awards and other: nothing
This is why the guy isnt getting selected because he is BELOW f****** AVERAGE, CANT TWO WAY RUN, KIDS YOUNGER THAN HIM DOING BETTER! MOVE ON!!!!

I’ll shout because it’s “you” knuckles head who can’t get over the fact that Bytel will be delisted by years end because he’s had heaps of opportunity to prove himself and let everyone down
