Ross Lyon is #2
Not picked up by the media (yet) but this week, Ross Lyon will pass Alan Richardson as the Saints coach with the second most home and away games coached for the Saints, behind Jeans. With finals included, this was passed earlier in the year.
Also sits #2 for win rate (behind Brendon Lade, 1 win from 1 game in 2022)
Finals appearances - you guessed it, #2 again, behind Jeans.
Total wins, yep #2 again.
Grand finals, we placed #2 in each of those he has coached as well. **not including the replay.
There is one stat where Ross beats the rest of the saints coaches in history, with 4 drawn games, more than twice any other saints coach.

Though not his biggest fan… IMO this is how it should look.Otiman wrote: ↑Thu 13 Jul 2023 10:03am Not picked up by the media (yet) but this week, Ross Lyon will pass Alan Richardson as the Saints coach with the second most home and away games coached for the Saints, behind Jeans. Easily our most successful coach since Jeans with the biggest disgrace being that AR was number 2. How could a guy that didn’t even make the finals in 5 years get ahead of Sheldon, Alves, Thomas, Ratten and RL

Some on here definitely believe Ross is a #2

Passed Richardosn in games coached weeks ago simply by virtue of the fact that he coached ten finals and Richo coached none.

His press conferences give me the #2's.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Madness that we stuck with Richo for as long as we did.
Admittedly, wasn’t helped by Pelchen and Trout’s dismal recruiting.

Now also number 2 (to Eade) for games coached without a flag!
If he completes his current contract he will be number 1 in this regard
Or we will have number 2 on the mantelpiece!!

Re: Ross Lyon is #2
If he really wanted a premiership (if that was his prime motive for putting his hand up to coach) he would have gone through the 'process' at Carltonwhiskers3614 wrote: ↑Fri 14 Jul 2023 8:48am Now also number 2 (to Eade) for games coached without a flag!

Actually.. that's not fair. I take that back. He came back to St Kilda because he loves the club and wants to make up for leaving the first time around....after dumping number 2's on us in 2011.

Re: Ross Lyon is #2
I think regardless…
After Jeans, he’s pbly our most successful coach
4 finals series, 2 grand finals, one that was a draw
After that you have Alves who led the team to a GF and semi final, GT = 2 prelims and a semi and Ratten who got to a semi final
Like I said before… how AR eclipsed them all is a really poor reflection on the club

Re: Ross Lyon is #2
Lol just watched the Misson Lyon presser
He’s one weird unit Ross
Check out his entry on screen….then gets a question then almost wakes up lol
Loved his monologue on Dew at the end - don’t think anyone asked him but he’s decided he’s giving his view anyway
In fact I’m not sure you need the the media at these - he just answers his own questions
He looks at them like “**** you people are dumb”
Then just walks off

Re: Ross Lyon is #2
A little off topic, but the MCG game features 2 sides we have lost to over the past 3 weeks (WCE in Perth in between)
We lost by 28 and 21 points, being in both games
And in both games a full back was BOG, Andrews then May so, by extension, we must have been pumping the ball into our F50
Hence we must have had our chances but lacked potency in attack
An attack including a reliance on teenagers versus the maturity of the Brisbane and Melbourne defences

Watching this game the ball movement, skill level quite remarkable we were close in those games tbh
I think that’s what a genuine structured game plan has given us
Yes our kids up forward were outmuscled
Our ball movement into 50 needs work
King needs to lead one day ..
But we were in both games…
Brisbane look very very good btw…

Of course not. He isn't a duffle coat wearing nuff nuff volunteer that turns up to the club out of loyalty or 'just for fun'.Teflon wrote: ↑Fri 14 Jul 2023 10:02pmSo you think he’s coaching cause he doesn’t want a flag but just for fun?Scollop wrote: ↑Fri 14 Jul 2023 9:14amIf he really wanted a premiership (if that was his prime motive for putting his hand up to coach) he would have gone through the 'process' at Carltonwhiskers3614 wrote: ↑Fri 14 Jul 2023 8:48am Now also number 2 (to Eade) for games coached without a flag!

Lyon is a 'career coach'... remember?... that's what he told us in 2011.

Re: Ross Lyon is #2
I was pissed off.
But...that was last year
Now...in 2023...I want him to be successful.
I hope he becomes a legend of our football club. I hope everything you've said about Ross Lyon (and the promises made to Bassatt and the board) come true
I hope with regard to a winning culture and finding the right players to create a team that can contend for a flag in the next 3-4 years, that a long term outlook remains the priority.
I hope the club and coaches don't waiver from those goals and I hope Ross doesn't think about self preservation in the 3rd or 4th year of his contract...or in the 2nd year either

Re: Ross Lyon is #2
I don't quite remember what happened in 2011 leading up to Ross going to Freo, but some are saying it's similar to Hinkley this year where he wasn't offered a contract so went to someone who did.
