Bytel Injury
Apparently Bytel has picked up an abdominal injury.
I suspect it is a result of being repeatedly kicked in the guts by the selection committee.

Re: Bytel Injury
Lyon true to form has his favourites ( recall Eddy , McQualter and out go Lynch and Ball.... which latter probably cost us the 2011 premiership)
Bytel has been dynamite for Zebras but cant get a game in front of Byrnes, Sputtering Ross, Higgins even Gresham till this week
Clearly Billings is out of favour as was Membury before he got injured, Highmore, Connolly and Campbell
Lowest number of used players despite the deteriorating results.
Time to change the dynamic

Bytel “dynamite” in VFL….really?? You have a low explosive thresholdJR23 wrote: ↑Mon 03 Jul 2023 9:07pm Lyon true to form has his favourites ( recall Eddy , McQualter and out go Lynch and Ball.... which latter probably cost us the 2011 premiership)

Billing’s hasn’t run out 4 quarters yet
Membrey injured and form prior was ordinary…
Yep….Ross just “gets it in for people” he’s so emotional that’s how he chooses his sides….

Re: Bytel Injury
To me, the debate isn’t about Bytel bring the answer.
This is like the Cooper Sharman debate all over again. It’s ridiculous to select him, expect him to come in as a sub, then get 17 touches and kick 4 goals most weeks.
But… based on form, he earned his opportunity for a shot and to get the chance to play at the top level with the hope of improving.
Bytel won’t come to replace an injured Crouch one week and get 44 disposals and 15 tackles. But he’s been playing consistently well enough at Sandy to warrant a go and have a few weeks to try and prove himself without the axe constantly hanging over his head. On form, even if they’re not like for like, he at least deserves as much of a go as Byrnes has had.

Papers stamped I think
Not what we need
I think the coaches have explored/seen enough
Still playing plenty kids each week
Trying different looks through the middle - Sincs Pou Windy (looked good)
New faces time

Re: Bytel Injury
Phillipou was horrible in the midfield
He was promptly moved out of the square after having no impact in the first half
He’s been gifted games at this stage, Hewitt and Ginbey both performed much better Sunday.
He’s a talent - but is getting games on potential not performance

Re: Bytel Injury
Perhaps you should point out who you would select from Sandy to replace him, Membrey or Billings maybe. I'd just persist with the kid myself.B.M wrote: ↑Mon 03 Jul 2023 11:10pm Phillipou was horrible in the midfield

Re: Bytel Injury
Bytel, Billings, Jones
All running around in the twos
Bytel (injured now) needs an opportunity to show his wares
Billings is absolutely wasted in the VFL
Jones gives a different element to the midfield- speed

Re: Bytel Injury
Not sure why. Billings is actually an effective player and uses the ball well. Most of our current 22 do not. Billings is also a good mark for his size.
Jones is unfortunately not a good user of the ball, but he can burst out of the midfield and is also very aggressive. Our current mids lack these qualities.

Re: Bytel Injury
Questions
Is Billings a better player than Mattaus Phillipou?
Is Zac Jones a better player than Ryan Byrnes
Is Jack Bytel worth having a look at?

Re: Bytel Injury
Zak Jones has been out for ages and looks like he's just getting back to fitness. He'll come in this week but not for Byrnes.
Billings is better than Phillipou no doubt but again he's not been sitting in the reserves for ages, he's just getting back.
Is Bytel worth having a look at? It seems like most people in the AFL world think no.

Re: Bytel Injury
I will try to answer your questions B.M - only my opinion.
Billings is currently a better player than Phillipou.
Not sure about Jones or Byrne's. Both average but Byrne's is far younger and seemingly not injury prone.
Bytel is worth a look at and I think should be given a run of games not as a sub.

Re: Bytel Injury
Are they fit or not?
Zak has played 2 now in the VFL
Billings played 4 then missed 2 then played another 2
Bytel has been fkd around
Too much pigeon holing for my liking?!

this is just nonsense - he has no impact as a marking player and finds it hard to kick to the advantage of a team mate! No doubt Caleb Daniel is a good mark for his size, it's just his size that is the problem - but he sure knows how to find a player by foot! Either one.

Re: Bytel Injury
Apologies if I have made it seem that my comments have been submitted by saints rising - They are mine alone and refer to the hype on Billings as a junior that justified our pick that as it turns out have never been realised.

Re: Bytel Injury
Can clear a bit of salary cap space by moving on Billings, Jones and Gresham and really don’t lose anything on field.
Bytel is not costing lot - it’s just whether he is good enough.
