Wet Toast are due for a win. The only positive is that we’ve got our backs to the wall.

Re: West Coast with new coach next week??
We are playing a team with a percentage of 47.4!
And I’m not confident!
Kane Cornes said there’ll be a new coach this week.
Scott Watters?

Re: West Coast with new coach next week??
I don't fear the bottom teams this year. I fear that we are going to be middle of the road (as we have been for the past decade) while the bottom teams rise above us and win flags
Becoming a successful football club is not about luck. Lethlean, Bassatt and co have a big job ahead of them.
Our football department looks ok but the proof will be evident in 2025 when some of these younger guys mature and we see the fruits of of our drafting from 2021/22/23.

And we beat the team that beat them in Sydney.
If we go into that game with the right attitude, and we should because we have lost our last two games ourselves, we should be aiming to boost our percentage.
A 20-point win won't cut it in m y opinion.
Also, some of their players who returned to the side after a long layoff will no doubt be sore.
I didn't see any vision of that game but I heard the game was over by halfway through the first quarter.

Usually even the worst teams salute at least a couple of times a year. But because we have lost our last two (and three of our last four) there won't be any overconfidence on our part.SydneySainter wrote: ↑Sun 25 Jun 2023 12:19am Wet Toast are due for a win. I hope the team really go for percentage and play four quarters. If we could get 10% from this one it would be very helpful at the end of the season.

Re: West Coast with new coach next week??
It’s a difficult situation for us isn’t it with the spotlight well and truly on our opposition for the next round. Trust us to become embroiled in another team’s woes. Do we take the opportunity to experiment with our team, or do we hold the line and go for the % boost. Do we rest some players bearing in mind it is a late game in Perth and we have the Dees off a short break? Have the Weagles got it in them to come out fighting? Have we got it in ourselves to do what Sydney did to them. Will they drag us down to their current level? So many questions.

There wont be a new coach - he's contracted to 2025. Would cost them too much.

Apparently, It would cost them 6 months pay, this week, next week, 1/1/24 or 1/1/25SaintJohn1956 wrote: ↑Sun 25 Jun 2023 9:30am There wont be a new coach - he's contracted to 2025. Would cost them too much.

Re: West Coast with new coach next week??
They just lost two games in a row by over 100 points, this week by 170. Maybe they're due to not lose a game by 100 points but in no way are they due for a win. They look like one of the worst sides of all time.SydneySainter wrote: ↑Sun 25 Jun 2023 12:19am Wet Toast are due for a win. The only positive is that we’ve got our backs to the wall.

complacent, fat and lazy and let their list run down and kept senior players play on for too long.

Re: West Coast with new coach next week??
There is also the 'rallying effect' for a coach under siege. That shouldn't be enough.
As 66 Tweaty says, we might rest players for the following week which is Melbourne off a trip/short break.
My guess. Marshall won't go or he will play few minutes and one the Sandy big boys will fly over.
Note : we have now won 2 of the last six games!

Are WCE trying to bolster the narrative that they need a priority pick?

Whether they merit one or not would never have entered their minds.
They want one,
so,
should get one
is their mindset

WC are going to do everything in their power to lose. They will not be bringing players back against us they will need one more week. If they win against us it will give North a sniff at last place and WC are not going to risk that. This is truly a year where two sides are tanking as hard as they can.

Re: West Coast with new coach next week??
Doesn't matter to us who coaches them. They are playing like we used to in 1979 or 1986.
We need to approach this game with an absolute ruthless mentality!
100 points +. Everyone else is!

When was the last time we demonstrated a ruthless mentality?samuraisaint wrote: ↑Sun 25 Jun 2023 1:34pm We need to approach this game with an absolute ruthless mentality!
Our last 100+ point win was in 2015 against Essendon.
We've topped 200 points only once. In 1978 (we still conceded 141 points that day)!
We are not a ruthless team.

Simspon still has at least two more years on his contract. Soft cap rules will make it extremely unlikely that they sack him. He will have to resign and accept a nominal pay out.

When we have been a decent side we have beaten plenty of sides by 100 points plus. This team have won two games this year by more than 50 points, two sides which are pretty decent too.Life Long Saint wrote: ↑Sun 25 Jun 2023 3:02pmWhen was the last time we demonstrated a ruthless mentality?samuraisaint wrote: ↑Sun 25 Jun 2023 1:34pm We need to approach this game with an absolute ruthless mentality!

Historically, teams that lose by 170 points have lots of problems. We are playing one of those teams next week. Just the right time for us too, after playing three very tough teams.
We should be winning next week by 70 points +.
Not just aiming to win and the four points.

I would argue that we, on current form, are not a "decent" team.
We also might have a different definition of ruthless. A 70 point win isn't really ruthless.
We are better than West Coast, who are easily the worst team I have seen in the AFL era. But I can't see us kicking a score big enough to have a 100+ point win which gets us into the ruthless range.
We have, in fact, only won 16 games by over 100 points in our entire history!
Half of those are from 2004 onwards.
4 under GT, 3 under Lyon, and 1 each for Watters and Richo.
Watters was against GWS in their first season.

Because we played games historically at Moorabbin and Waverley where it was difficult to kick big scores.Life Long Saint wrote: ↑Sun 25 Jun 2023 3:22pmOK.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Sun 25 Jun 2023 3:05pmWhen we have been a decent side we have beaten plenty of sides by 100 points plus. Okay, but we have won more than 20 games by over 94 points though. And I wrote 70 points +. Emphasis on the +.
And we have kicked over 160 points 18 times.
No time like the present to do it again. Who better to do it against than a side playing like they are?
We are currently fifth, with a sizeable injury list which means we are decent.
