Cordy
If you're wondering what role he played early in the season.
Have a look at Hammers opponent today.

Re: Cordy
Well that was easy fishing.
I'm not advocating for the return of Cordy- although I wouldn't object- simply highlighting the role he was playing with gold effect at the start of the year, a role that we could have used tonight.

Re: Cordy
The ball was kicked to Gumbys advantage consistently! Over and over.
Harris Andrews would have played that game against anyone... we gave it to him on a platter repeatedly. He was going to mark most of those balls regardless of who he played on. Thats his bread and butter.
Stupid football. Hammer has a lot to learn, obviously. But to hold him solely responsible is a putrid way to look at it.

Re: Cordy
THIS!
I came here to say the exact thing. The reason why the intercept markers get big numbers on us is because our key forwards don’t lead in the lanes. It causes us to bomb it to the “hot-spot” over and over and over and it causes intercept after intercept after intercept. It’s why Wilkie and Battle do it so often.
Why Wilkie had a s*** night? It’s because Hipwood led into lanes and Wilkie can’t intercept. I do agree hipwood is significantly taller and bigger than Wilkie but it’s not the point im making.
OUR FORWARDS NEED TO LEAD!!!

Re: Cordy
My point. Delivery makes a difference. Forward or defender.
Stewart, Moore, Andrews... among others, would lick their lips when the ball comes in the way it did tonight.
Wilkie plays a similar game with shite delivery. Looks more rattled when the ball comes in to the forwards advantage.
The way the ball comes in matters.

Re: Cordy
I will say this for Caminati…
Did a lot better in the second half. Reduced Harris influence (compared to the first 1/2) and got a bit more of it himself.
No question he comfortably gave up the points so to speak… but I was glad to see that he didn’t drop his head but adjusted as best he could

Re: Cordy
I can answer that without reviewing on the TV.
He took ZERO marks on the lead because the stats show he took ZERO marks for the entire match.
ZERO tackles for the entire game.
But his forward ruckwork was fantastic, ZERO hitouts.
! am tempted to give him 5 votes for the game.

Re: Cordy
This post wasn't meant to be overly critical of Hammer.
He is a young player with zero AFL preseasons under his belt.
He would have learned heaps tonight.
Delivery was poor but good forwards bring the ball to ground.

Re: Cordy
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Our senior coach does not value goals as much as he values 'defensive' effort. The Freo fans know it. The media and the analysts know it and the stats don't lie
Our goals are incidental. We are putrid when it comes to inside 50 entries and conversion from our entries (probably bottom 3 in the league)
We need to have a game plan structured around scoring and attack if we want to compete with the top teams...or at least a better balance than what we have now
If people start talking about personnel...Nathan Buckley was coaching in 2021 and had his team playing a dour low scoring game.
In 2022 (with virtually the same team) Craig McCrea got them playing a different and more enjoyable brand of footy and they are now high scoring

Actually in this thread we're bemoaning the inability of some of our players to put in a defensive effort.

Re: Cordy
Ok. I get that, but if our players are actually trying to score goals it would be advantage to target a forward or put the football to the advantage of one of our forwards rather than kicking the footy inside 50 and just hoping that something positive occursnostalgicsaint wrote: ↑Sat 24 Jun 2023 7:06am

Brad Crouch had 5 x i50's and only 1 score involvement. Doesn't that tell you something?
btw...Jimmy Webster had 2 i50's for 1 score involvement as well. Well done Jimmy

Re: Cordy
Max King was putrid last night - at least Caminiti did a few things and moved around a bit. Max needs to work on his fitness. At the start of the year Cordy was allowing Caminiti Owens and Philipou to mark by clearing out the ops defenders. I'd consider brining Cordy back for Hammer to allow Max more space until Hammer and King get the fitness and strength to work as an effective unit.

Re: Cordy
A re-adjusted, attacking, mindset with combined a vicious defensive attitude and flexibility would mean that we’re constantly in the game. I hate to say it, but it’s a joy to watch Collingwood players playing for each other, shepherding and slamming into contests. Sadly, that’s not the case with us.Scollop wrote: ↑Sat 24 Jun 2023 3:28am I've said it before and I'll say it again. Our senior coach does not value goals as much as he values 'defensive' effort.
