Just as a comparison Bergmans best average stats vs Nick Coffield best average stats -

Disposal averages Bergman 16.05 per game vs Coffield 15.22 per game
Disposal Efficiency Bergman 65.3% kicking 63.8, handballs 69.1% vs Coffield 83.2% kicking 78.9% handball 94.1%
Marks per game Bergman 5.77 vs Coffield 6.5
Clangers per game Bergman 2.9 vs Coffield 1.81
Contested marks per game Bergman 0.46 vs Coffield 0.63
Contested possessions per game Bergman 5.77 vs Coffield 4.11

As you see their stats apart from the DISPOSAL EFFICIENCY & CLANGERS are very similiar. I simply cant see the sense in trading for a player playing in a position we already have plenty of cover for with such poor ball use!

Bergman is statically the 2nd worse kick in the AFL this season. I don’t buy into the hype with him. Wouldn’t mind Gresham leaving tho tbh.

Listed size
Coffield 191cm & 83kg
Bergman 189cm & 83kg

Very similar players IMO as written earlier.
I like Bergman as a player, but not sure he’s what we need, particularly if Coffield can make a success return from injury.

Bergman does stand apart as he is a very good runner and athlete. He has midfielder running capacity. Was always a VG junior 400 & 200mt runner along with good mate Hugo Ralphsmith.

Massive questions gotta exist over Coffield sadly - he’s out of contract too I think
Gresham comes down to cost …
If he wants 800+ - no and that probably triggers 1st round compo so happy to deal …
If it’s 600 ….compo isn’t as good so probably better keeping him
I’m not sure he fits the Lyon mould tbh
Bergman?? Not sure …kicking is supposedly suspect but Port love him ….off HB does he free up Sinclair to mid? That’s useful ..

I hope Gresham stays but Lyon and co May have other plans.

Sinclair’s best position is playing off half back with occasional bursts in the midfield as required.

💯

He can pop up for the odd goal sometimes, but it's so random and usually off the back of strong work by team-mates.
I don't recall any times that he's created a scoring chain, he's on the end. Yes, he's a small fwd but if he wasn't there, Butler or Higgins would get the goal.
And in centre clearance, he can get the ball, but kicks across his body maybe for more distance but it's an Auskick style of *bang* and where it lands is up to the Footy Gods

What I have seen of Bergman over the last weeks doesn't get me overly excited

Just an observation but he has been caught quite a few times recently with ball in hand with plenty of time to dispose of it

He might be quick but not sure he quick in making decisions

That said he is a good size, is a decent mark and can hit the scoreboard

Bergman is another HBF

Nas, Sinclair, Coffield, Paton, Clark amongst others

Not required

Coffiekd hasn’t played 2 years
Paton a lock down small defender - not rebounding HBF
Clark been moved to midfield
Plan is to release Sincs more
So no we aren’t flush with hun HBFs for future
That said I don’t want Bergman …

Bergman tonight had 6 disposals 2 marks 1 tackle & 4 clangers

2 of his kicks went straight to a Cats player when he was under no pressure

1st round draft pick? ...... no thanks

Totally depends on list strategy.

If we are going after a DFA it’s no good losing Gresham and canceling out the compensation.

If we really want TDK, and I’m not a fan, there could be a Gresham deal.

For example Carlton take Gresham as a RFA, we don’t match the offer. We then trade the compensation pick for TDK. We get TDK for Gresham, Carlton get a second round pick and Gresham.

Personally I don’t rate TDK at all and would rather retain talent like Gresham than replace it.

No good comparing a young HBF like Bergman to a Gresham or Coff type. The form of a couple of years ago means nothing other than showing that players were of a certain standard- Gresh has skills, bit is clearly slower than pre injuries and won't get any better, while Coff hasn't been on the field for a couple off years and may not return this season. Talk of getting a Bergman or TDK is a long term view- strong young players free of injury while about to be in their prime.

If TDK is nearing his prime, its best he stay at Carlton for 2 more years, because at the moment he looks and plays like an 18 year old and Heath looks every bit as capable. Give him 47 games and see how they compare. I'm not sure he would be any more effective than Hayes, who would be on a Mars Bar and a Coke just like Heath.
47 games in 6 years and he is in the $600-$800k range. I dont think so.

CQ is right about TDK. Let’s not pay overs or give up too much for him.

I said the same about Harry Himmelberg.

We have four or five talls playing for Sandringham. There's potential to get the next Ruck (Heath), CHB(Van Es) FB (Adams) and CHF (Keeler) from our youngsters on our current list

Do not look past these guys. They are the future. Spend as much as is necessary to get these guys AFL fit and AFL strong and support them with mentors so they have the right attitude

We need to wrap our arms and invest our MONEY in these guys and just bring in more of the same. Hit the draft if we can't improve the team with elite talent

We offered good $$$$ for guys like Draper and Xerri before they were regular AFL players so we should look for young talent that is looking for opportunities.

We did offer Big Money for De Goey so we should also continue to look for absolutely elite mids if they want to come to us

None of those guys have really impressed in the twos

I was happy when we got them

Underwhelmed after watching them

Adams and Connolly are busts

I agree. Van Es is looking like a poor man's Maguire.

Haven't seen Adams do much.

I'll give Keeler a leave pass because he's only a few games in.

Heath will make it to AFL. Just not sure if he'll be a battler or will do great.

Coffield is all class

We just need to cement a full recovery and get him consistently on the park

He has endured a knee reconstruction then leg issues - it happens

And he is now working into the 4/6 week frame - so will be performing at a level ahead of that return (and they are no doubt being cautious given his recent history)

Gresham, in my opinion, has never been straight line quick - his assets are his evasiveness and that he hunts the ball, the ball hunting asset on display when he is in the centre square

On that basis Gresham is a required player

You keep your good players

And by doing that you build team performance which results in quality Unrestricted Free Agents being interested in making their way to St Kilda hence protecting our Draft Picks, Draft Picks which will drop down the order

As those Draft Picks drop down the order then you can debate offering them for who

But not with top 10 picks

Coffield is a confidence player

When he’s low on confidence and not backing himself - he looks soft and unsure.

Played some good footy in 2020 but yet to really dominate any game

NWMs last month is probably better than anything Coffield has produced
