Joey in the half time break on FoxFooty was saying he watched the slow motion replay and he thought that Butler didn't have a case to answer.

If Blakey didn't have an ankle injury and if he wasn't subbed off, we wouldn't be as worried. The fact that he got subbed off could mean the AFL use that against Butler

Leigh Montagna said that Blakey had an arm free and therefore had the opportunity to break his fall and not hit his head. Did the Lizard try and win a free and risk injury (or at least a head ache) by not breaking his fall?

Same thing with ducking to win a free for high contact... or players leading with the head. Players were milking that rule for a few years before the AFL clamped down on it

Players are trying to exploit the rule and purposefully hitting their own head on the turf to win a free

Has Sydney come out and claimed that Blakey had concussion or delayed concussion?

It is true. I cannot see Collingwood copping this. Eddie knows his media works for him

This and Sicily’s are massive test cases for the AFL. The next few days could change the game forever.

Pretty sure I read that Luke Beveridge has commented on the Butler tackle suggesting there was nothing in it.

Probably in defense of the Bont hit where he ran past the ball to hit the Port player.

Absolutely nothing in either incident.

Agree if the Butler suspension stands the game is in total disarray and tackling is dead.

I find it hard to believe a player will not put an arm or hand out to break a fall, it is a natural instinct. I do believe a player, if quick thinking enough, will pretend to bang his head on the ground, after the event.

What I don't like about the commentary is when people are saying that Blakey wasn't expecting to be tackled and that somehow goes against Butler. Apparently in the AFL "perfect" world, ignorance is an excuse.

Agree, if what Butler did is a suspension then the fabric of the game is changed forever. No bumping, no tackling, no longer a contact sport...bring on the athletes. Athletes only please.

Sorry, it was the 3 quarter time break when Joey declared he thought Butler wouldn't have a case to answer

This is hilarious, with 18 opponents on the ground in a 360 degree game, anyone with the ball in hand while it is “in play or in dispute for that matter” should be expecting contact at some point.

How can they actually believe this is a valid discussion point?

It’s not like he was 80 meters off the play and punched in the diaphragm by Barry Hall.

Everyone in the football world will be watching this, because if the penalty remains, it will change the game altogether

It will redesign the definition of a sling, tackle to be penalised for any tackle where the opponents head hits the ground, which will in reality. Totally stuff the game up.

For all that you have said is the very reason the tribunal will / must overturn the decision.

David Zita giving live updates.

Jack Rush representing the Saints. Is he the same guy who was unsuccessful all those other times?

I don't believe so.
At least he's not the bloke who represented Baker in the Farmer case (the worst job IMHO)

He represented us for Paddy Ryder on Will Day last year. Failed
Ben Long on Jack Macrae in 2021. Failed

I hope our lawyer isn't a spud, because the AFL bloke is going hard.

Afl might engage him/her on a no win/no fee basis.
Focuses the rhetorical vitriol : think of Blakey's poor children, should he have been physicalled for simply being indecisive, is it ok to manhandle anyone not sure whether to get on or off public transport. No, it's unaustralian.

I want a jury of Butler's peers: Saynta, Dud, Teflon, Skeptic, Banger, & Daisy Pearce for balance.

great news. That ex filth arsehole christian should be sacked.

He is operating on what he thinks the AFL wants rather than looking at the actual incident with an unbiased eye.

I'd love to see what his contract terms are for doing the job of MRO? What are his key performance indicators?

Does he only rely on the club's and the umpires reports?

Does he write a report on each match for each suspect incident?

He and the office of MRO have an obligation to ensure all AFL games and 120 minutes of each match is scrutinised

Is there a team of assistants that he relies on to watch certain games or does he personally watch 20 hours of footy? I'm adding 2 hours for reviewing incidents from different angles and slow motion replays if available

Does he even have watch the whole of each of the 9 games each week? Does he even like watching the footy or does he spend more time studying the form guide
