Elite
We presently have two players that are elite
Wilkie and Sinclair
Soon, I may add mitchito to that list and after watching king last game with his second efforts and skills I may be adding soon as well (after more sample size)
Anyone else that may fit the list ? And how many do you need to win a flag?

Re: Elite
Wanganeen-Milera will be considered elite very soon, he is pure silk. Rowan Marshall is very close to being elite, he is elite or above average on almost every key stat.

Re: Elite
Yes I should have added rowan to the elite list or at least in before the other two it’s just that Wilkie and since are stand outs but not a big gap between them and rowanBringBackMadDog wrote: ↑Tue 13 Jun 2023 1:14pm Wanganeen-Milera will be considered elite very soon, he is pure silk. Re: Elite
King will be close by the end of the season.
Averages half a goal more than any other player in the comp to have played 3+ matches this season.
His score involvement numbers are very close to elite as well.

Re: Elite
We currently have a first year player who is amongst the best first year players in the league (the Pou)
We currently have 2 x second year players who are amongst the best players in the league!! NWM and Owens.
We were a little lucky with Mich and Windy but Nas was a very very good pick as was Mattaes. I have faith in our recruiting team. We need to back them in for the National draft and rookie drafts at the end of this year
If we had gone to the draft in 2019 and 2020 instead of looking to swap draft picks for ready made players, perhaps we would have been better off. Perhaps we would have been ready to challenge the top 4 teams.
Having said that, perhaps Nas and Windy wouldn’t have come on so fast without Brad Hill as their mentor (and hopefully Keeler to follow). Perhaps we wouldn’t have picked up Phillipou if we finished in the bottom 6 …so I better just look ahead and I can’t wait for this group of youngsters to take us forward

Re: Elite
Sincs and Wilkie 100%.
Steele was previously but not playing up to that level this year unfortunately for some reason.
Owens and NWM look like they'll both be there this time next year, King too if he stays on the park.
RoMa has elite parts to his game but IMO is let down by his tapwork and goalkicking, which keeps him from that elite level.

Steele has taken a long time to get over his shoulder injury, probably should have waited a few more weeks.The_Dud wrote: ↑Tue 13 Jun 2023 2:47pm Sincs and Wilkie 100%.

But I thought his second quarter against Sydney last Thursday was a vast improvement and if he continues to build on that he will be a major factor in the quest for a spot in the finals.

Re: Elite
If we were to ask opposition clubs who they rated elite at St Kilda (or perhaps who they'd want if we offered them up for trade) I know who would be on their list.
Max King, Wilkie and Jack Steele would be in the top 3 in my opinion.
Jack Steele is a dual All Australian who just hasn't had any luck with injury the last 12 months. I think Sincs has been elite as a half back flanker but I've got Steele ahead of Sincs because elite inside mids are rare and for what Steele brings at his absolute best. Sincs doesn't play exclusively as a mid
Wilkie...the AFL world has finally acknowledged what all St Kilda fans have known for a few years
Max King was in the hunt for the Coleman medal in 2022 and although he had the yips at times he still kicked over 50 goals. His upside is huge (he's still relatively young for a KPF) and he has the potential to be a consistent match winner

I disagree with a fair bit of your opinion D.B Cooper...The op didn't specify elite only for 'right now'D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Tue 13 Jun 2023 8:59pm Right now!

Hill, Wood,
We have more than 1 elite player anyway... I reckon 5 of our players fit the criteria for elite (King nearly won the Coleman and Steele is a dual AA) plus we also have a few in 2023 based on pure averages against their peers.
We aren't sitting in 5th position on the ladder just on the strengths of our game plan and coaching.
I guess if you had to pick an All Australian team for this year, then I'd have Sincs and Wilkie in the squad of 40 and Wood also is in that conversation

Re: Elite
Interesting point scollop about the AA squad. I agree Sinclair & Wilkie are locks. Wood had been in early consideration, may still be. I do think if Owens finishes the year as strongly as his first half then he's every opportunity to make the AA squad.

And where do you place Mason Wood

Re: Elite
Sinclair and Wilkie are elite - there aren't any players who play their roles and are clearly better than them at the moment.
Marshall is in the top tier of rucks along with Gawn, English, Witts, Darcy and Grundy. Does that make him elite?
Steele's usual standard is elite but he's a shadow of that right now. Wangmil is trending to get there very soon if he keeps his rate of improvement up. Owens might be there already.
