How injured is Mason Wood?
Was it a shoulder he did early vs Essendon.
Hasn’t missed a game but really hasn’t been the same player since. Not playing badly by any means means but he really was like Owens on the other wing
Was an absolute match winner. Seems like he’s taking a lot less marks at the moment. I don’t know what do others think?
Anyone got some inside word on how he’s travelling?

Re: How injured is Mason Wood?
He looks fairly hampered but is still performing a valuable role. The fact that he self diagnosed himself as missing a month or so when he got the injury suggests that he's in quite a bit of discomfort. I'm guessing he continues at his current level of output for the rest of this season, gets surgery and then goes up a level next year.

Re: How injured is Mason Wood?
He averages 7 marks. He has taken 11 marks twice and his 3 lowest efforts are 2, 3 and 5 or something like that. His disposal average has dropped off since round 6. He was in the early/mid 20's, now mid teens.skeptic wrote: ↑Sat 10 Jun 2023 12:28am Was it a shoulder he did early vs Essendon.

Has had to be more accountable at times, I guess, due to mids needing more support.

Re: How injured is Mason Wood?
That surprises me… is it contested marks? I just remember early in the year he was taking some big, contested marks when it mattered. The Essendon game in particular comes to mind… he pretty much won us that when they drew level.CQ SAINT wrote: ↑Sat 10 Jun 2023 2:20pmHe averages 7 marks. Re: How injured is Mason Wood?
If is shoulder is injured, it isn't showing in his marking or running ability. He just completed a 15.5k effort on Thursday.

Probably not 100% but opposition might be putting more work into him.

Our early season fitness advantage hasn't looked prominent in the last 6 weeks.
Wood looked incredibly fit , but seems to have been caught up to by the competition

Re: How injured is Mason Wood?
Mason Wood played quite a reasonable game against Sydney, not as dominant around the ground as he was prior to doing his shoulder, but like Jack Steele, he is taking a while to regain his confidence.
Steele had 8 possessions in the first half and I was saying to my mates that perhaps he should take a spell in the reserves, but lo and behold, he really imposed himself on the game in the 2nd half and ended up with 24 disposals and rated 7th best Saint on the night.
Wood is integral to the team's success and I fully expect him to get back to his best form!

Re: How injured is Mason Wood?
Wood and Steele are no doubt putting themselves through considerable pain and suffering to get through games and deliver as much as they can for their club. As do many players across all clubs every week.
Meanwhile, many keyboard warriors with beer guts and man boobs endlessly criticise players for being lazy and unmotivated.
One of life's many paradoxes.

Don’t think I’ve read anyone suggest either is lazy or unmotivated.meher baba wrote: ↑Sun 11 Jun 2023 8:29am Wood and Steele are no doubt putting themselves through considerable pain and suffering to get through games and deliver as much as they can for their club. Surely it was obvious that I was talking in general terms about fan criticism of AFL players.skeptic wrote: ↑Sun 11 Jun 2023 10:45amDon’t think I’ve read anyone suggest either is lazy or unmotivated.meher baba wrote: ↑Sun 11 Jun 2023 8:29am Wood and Steele are no doubt putting themselves through considerable pain and suffering to get through games and deliver as much as they can for their club. Re: How injured is Mason Wood?
Last year Parker of Sydney accused Mason of dropping his head during a game at Marvel. Mason had made good ground to a pocket and was in an awkward position as a skewed kick came in and he understandably dropped it after doing well to get his hands on it . Ball went out of bounds, no damage. Parker chased him to taunt. At that point of his career Mason had recently been delisted by a bottom team and was trying to resurrect his career. Mason didn't squib and Parker knew it, he was trying to get into Mason's head. Pretty mean I thought. Remembered that as Parker had a shocker in the granny. Mean spirited me thought, sweet, hope Mason bumps into him at the airport. Mason is great, credit to himself and our club.

Form has dropped off a little but he's still doing his job
Quite happy with how he's going overall.
