The non free to max
Simply a disgraceful decision
Smashed front on in a marking contest it is a free all day every day

Francis and rampe got away with a lot of rough stuff, i thought.
Admittedly, Francis was out of his depth.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

How about the hands in the back to NWM… stinker. Talk about the umpires assuming they saw something

Re: The non free to max
shocking umpiring, but on balance i'm not complaining . afl needs to ditch the fourth ump - not near enough depth in the ump stocks. whilst at it, the afl commentary could drop one of theirs at least.

Re: The non free to max
There were a lot of free kicks to King and even Higgins. My partner was watching it and she called a lot of Higgins holds whilst I fixated on Max. Francis can go suck a fat one. Looked like a loser.

100%.
2 goals from 50m penalties in the last quarter of a tight game? No one is gonna knock that back.

So they weren't there?

Re: The non free to max
No - you agreed we got the rub of the green - ie when it was 50/50 it went our way
So were the 50s disputable????
They get paid every week - usually against us.

Yep, sometimes they get paid, sometimes the umps give more leeway. 2 out of 2 is a pretty good strike rate.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Fri 09 Jun 2023 2:36amNo - you agreed we got the rub of the green - ie when it was 50/50 it went our way

Guaranteed this place would be calling for heads to roll if the situation was reversed.

Re: The non free to max
Guy who wasn’t near the contest just ran past NWM to take up the mark. Obvious 50.
Guy who was 2m in front of Owens when he marked it just turned around to stand the mark. Umpire called him back and he ignored him. Umpire was being generous to warn him.
Obvious 50.
Swans two goals from soft frees in the 3rd. I guess they were OK.

The NWM one was there. The other one was crap IMO.

Re: The non free to max
The other was a guy who bumped Owens - AFTER HE TOOK THE MARK - and had slowed down - OBVIOUSLY HE WAS PAST THE MARK and was just trying to make the kick further from goal.

Re: The non free to max
It seems more umpiring decisions are becoming a toss of a coin you see the same act paid either way many times during a match or over the weekend. It seems they have forgotten about the protected area after a mark.
Still surprised they paid that push in the back in the goal square against Buddy usually miss that probably wouldn’t pay it if it was a goal

Re: The non free to max
The umpiring was poor all game, way over the top. We probably got the better of it overall, but were on the end of some glaring mistakes.
Campbell throwing the ball to himself and being paid holding the man while it was in flight in the first quarter was something.
The dangerous tackles against Ross and Butler confirmed the tackle is dead.

Re: The non free to max
The free against NVM was a disgrace.
There was another free paid out of the middle to Gulden when he had the ball with one arm and Crouch tackled him by grabbing his other arm. He clearly had possession but the umpire paid holding the man.
Umpires need to stamp out the mauling of King. At one stage, Francis had King pinned to the ground away from the play right in front of the umpires.

Re: The non free to max
This is my take as well. It just feels absurdly random at times whether or not they’re white hot on a rule or going to let it go. To be honest I’ve just stopped caring about it as it’s pointless being invested in a dice rollwally wrote: ↑Fri 09 Jun 2023 8:29am It seems more umpiring decisions are becoming a toss of a coin you see the same act paid either way many times during a match or over the weekend. Re: The non free to max
We have been on the other end of those 50s this season. From a supporter perspective, the application of the standing the mark and getting back is very inconsistent. Players on the mark steal territory all the time. Sometimes it’s called out and a lot of the times it isn’t.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Fri 09 Jun 2023 2:36amNo - you agreed we got the rub of the green - ie when it was 50/50 it went our way

Not sure why some think it’s worth the time to intentionally rile and provoke others on a fan forum about their supporter bias. I do not give a crap about what free kicks the opposition get.

Re: The non free to max
I’m going to say something controversial and I love Max King. Got his cutout as my air freshener hanging off my rear view mirror. Would I like some more free kick? Yes but I had a think about it and I’m really glad max didn’t get as many holding free kicks for two reasons.
1. It teaches Max to get creative in a marking contest. We saw him nearly take marks on the ground, he brought it to ground several times and would handball corridor side and in one instance spotted Owens who kicked a goal.
2. We don’t want Max to be another free-Kick Curnow. Nearly everyone I know who loves AFL can’t stand Charlie Curnow because he literally gets gifted goals for piss weak holdings, blocks, chops and front ons that nearly half his goals in the tally this year (if you look at the stats) are from free kicks. We don’t want that negativity for Max because he’s such a confidence player.

Re: The non free to max
And for the record as it hasn't been highlighted elsewhere, Buddy's second goal wasn't a goal at all. He kicked the ball when both his foot and the ball were behind or over the goal line.
The commentators were too busy wanking over Buddy to notice. Sick making really.
