Re: Zak Jones - injured, again. Ugh!!
I reckon ‘steak knives ‘Dempster has been one of our best recruits , pity concussion issues shortened his career.
It is debatable if he is in our best 22 but is defineately is in our best 30 which makes him valuable .
I reckon that guys like this (injuries / consistent form) should be on a base rate plus match payments that still work out a good pay packet if they play enough.
I think he would be a great impact sub

Re: Zak Jones - injured, again. Ugh!!
Zac debuted in 2014, playing at a club who regularly made finals.
Zac averaged around 13 games per season across his 10 years in the AFL.
15 a season at Sydney who were averaging 24 matches per season including finals.
At St Kilda hes played:
2020 - 16 of 19
2021 - 13 of 22
2022 - 13 of 22
2023 - 0 of 9
At this point in time Zac's output of matches and statistics at St Kilda are very closely aligned with his career performance.
The disappointment is we reportedly paid big coin ($650K) and gave up Josh Bruce & change or a 2nd round pick and change for Jones.
Why give up so much for an inconsistent, not durable C+ grade midfielder?
Why do we think we can turn around the careers of players like Hannebery, Freeman, Jones?
Buy on blue sky but pay for performance, is not in the St Kilda mantra.
I like Zac as a player, quick, takes it on and seriously hard at it.
Adds a point of difference to our very similar midfield.
But we have paid overs for a guy who has produced at our club exactly what he has done in the previous years of his career.
I'd say Zac gets delisted at year end, unless Misson and the team think they can turn him around.
If there is confidence a one year extension on a largely reduced performance based contract.
I think his time is up.
Hopefully we have turned the corner on broken down players, I recall many wanting Hannebery to get a 1 year extension because he had a good "swan song" in his last match. Thank god that did not happen.

Absolutely. Very callous post from me.
I’m a huge Zac Jones fan but have well and truly lost my patience with his never ending run of the same injury.
It’s a shame because he’s exactly the type of player we need and at his best, is an A-Grader for us. Reality is he’s another player who we live with in the world of ‘if’.
Still… my post should have been more sympathetic

Put him on LTI list and go to mid season draft. Ethan Phillips could be a good pick up if available would be no worse than Howard.
Then delist Zac at seasons end, we have enough ball butchers and could certainly afford to lose an injury prone one.

He's a good player Phillips.
Looks ready made to fit into an AFL backline.
The one thing he does lack is a real leap, he is more a Wilkie style judgement intercept marker than a jumper athletic style.
I wonder if that is whey he's not been given a crack at senior level?
Has toweled up a lot of AFL listed key forwards playing VFL over the last couple of years.

Zak must be done at this point. He absolutely has the talent and ability to be a starting best 22 player but it seems like his body isn't going to let him get there. Same with McKenzie. It's brutal but I think we need to move on from both.
Hopefully Coffield and Hayes can get themselves right before the end of the season because they're approaching similar territory.

How does your comment have context to mine in relationship to Sainternist's comment (bolded/italics) which I was replying to?Apples wrote: ↑Tue 16 May 2023 11:39am Mr Magic wrote: ↑Mon 15 May 2023 10:41pm

Another handball over the top from the Swans
Seriously, they fleece us every time. We should veto them during the trade period.
Schneider and Dempster say hello
Those two came courtesy of RtB in 2007. Since Longmire has coached the Swines, they have absolutely fleeced us.
Yep, Dan Hanneberry sends his regards from the Bahamas, reckons his body has never felt better

Contract expires 2023
The guy can't run without tearing something.
So injury prone now he should be told to hang up his boots at season's end.

Can't disagree with this. He is a good player but someone in and out of the side so often is a liability to a team structure.

The boss on Zac Jones:
"It’s not ideal, I haven’t really seen him on the track since I’ve been here but he’s a beautiful kid… really bubbly,” Lyon said.
“He’s feeling that pressure, so we’ve got to put our support around him and nurture him and try and get him back at the end of the year.”
