I’d make him go over to Sebs house…they can watch it together with the lights on…33% by foot …deplorable bombing away

Re: Dougal Howard
The sooner we can replace Howard with a proper KPD the better. It's his job to be on the biggest forward the opposition have - Not Wilkie's. Add to that Crouch and Ross. We'll never be any good in finals with these types of players.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Dougal Howard
Pathetic when a small forward body lines a ball and a key defender dangles an arm in a feeble attempt. Its not the first time he has done that, desparation and Dougal are not synonymous.
You also rarely see him go back with the flight of the ball, he is not our most courageous player thats for sure.

Re: Dougal Howard
Don’t beat around the bush.
He is a disgrace. Gangly arms and legs everywhere, at 26 years old has no idea how to defend one on one, absolutely zero desperation or want to win a contest, can’t intercept mark unless it’s perfect for him with no body contact, and is an appalling kick, so has to bomb it (which more than often is a turnover). Then berates others for his mistakes.
Probly on good coin too.
He’s reached the point where can he be tried forward? If not, why? If he can’t then he seriously needs assessment as to why he stays on the list. Being tall doesn’t cut it anymore for a senior player.

I know we got smashed but that was probably the most embarrassing play of the day, Howard totally squibbed it!!!

Re: Dougal Howard
He watches players too much and loses the flight of the ball. Can’t keep his feet and is slow. Soon as the opposition closes the space on him he goes around in circles and gets caught out. Obviously the coaches didn’t think he was good enough to play on Walker. If he has to play then it should be back pocket where all the duds are played.

Re: Dougal Howard
I'm not sure we can rely on him or whether he's going to improve drastically as a forward or as a defender. Do they do IQ tests before giving these footballers the coin they earn?Annoyedsaint wrote: ↑Sun 14 May 2023 11:33pm

On a serious note, we have a few tall guys in our team. I think if Cordy is available he could possibly replace Dougs from time to time (send him a message).
I reckon there's another courageous tall bloke in our forward line that could be used as a defender, and that's the Hammer.
Why not train him up and Anthony could be a stop gap while we wait for Keeler and James Van Es to get up to AFL fitness...or we rotate these guys and we bamboozle the competition in a few years time

Re: Dougal Howard
Howard is certainly no May or Moore.
But key defenders never look any good in games in which the players up field offer little resistance and the attackers come streaming through in waves.
Cordy is perhaps worth a try in the role, but he is 4cm shorter than.Howard. But he is bigger and stronger, which would have helped against Walker: but Ross doesn’t do horses for courses selections.
I have been watching a bit of Sandy this year and Highmore is terrific. But he’s surely too short to take on monster forwards at AFL level.

Re: Dougal Howard
Does everyone forget how bad we looked down back last year when he was injured?
The way the ball came in yesterday Silvani would have struggled.
Was he poor yes but had plenty of mates.
StKilda's backline has been Walker's B*tch for years.

Re: Dougal Howard
Rubbish. He's a fraud. He's weak one on one, useless below his knees and lazy. Highmore is a better option. I really can't stand Howard's lack of effort.older saint wrote: ↑Mon 15 May 2023 12:13pm Does everyone forget how bad we looked down back last year when he was injured?

Re: Dougal Howard
Doug definitely had a stinker no doubt about it but some of the comments here just reeks of hysterical nonsense. Doug has been rock solid for most of this season and has more than ably assisted Wilkie and Battle. Our pressure on the ball carrier was nothing short of putrid so good luck defending that whoever you are! BTW - Wilkie had a very poor game by his standards so do we make a statement and drop him to bring in Oscar Adams? Get a grip.

Opinions forum, however one thing which is non negotiable for RL is effort so if you are correct i would expect to see a change this week I think he just had a maremagnifisaint wrote: ↑Mon 15 May 2023 12:27pmRubbish. Re: Dougal Howard
Wilkie didn't have a good game but at least he provides a contest. Howard was continually out of position watching his opponent racing off to goal. He is the weak link. He has no idea how to defend.

About time I got support for seeing Howard for what he is!

Drag the cursor to 2.05 in highlights link.
I bet Dougal would love to have this opportunity again.
It wont be pretty watching in the review.
To quote Ross; "I don't deal in isolated incidents, I look at a pattern of behavior"
I'm sure Dougal has plenty of credits in the bank.

One thing's for sure.
We hired RTB to put an end to weak efforts, lack of intensity and commitment.
Over to you, Ross.

Re: Dougal Howard
He actually dodged contact, of a small forward which resulted in a critical goal
Some of his other efforts were woeful
I don’t mind skill errors, but not giving 100% to the contest is not good enough

Re: Dougal Howard
Certainly not our master coach, without seeing him play at AFL level.
I have watched his VFL games. He certainly plays full back better than Howard and at least he can mark a f****** football.

Re: Dougal Howard
The problem is Howard is an integral part to our defensive structure. Our backline was far worse off without him last year when he was out injured. A shame he doesn’t match up particularly well against the better big forwards like Hawkins and Lynch. He got a bath from that racist meathead yesterday. James Van Es is Howard’s obvious replacement, but he is a work in progress and a while off from playing his first AFL game.
