Re: Match Thread Saints v Roos Round 8 2023
Went to the game, terrrible atmosphere. Would love a smaller stadium in Melbourne (ala Ikon park) for fixtures such as these. Can't be to negative given how well the defence held up. Our efficiency going forward and pressure in the first half was unacceptable though and reminds me a lot of last year. Having a quick look at our draw for the rest of the season, it would be criminal if we don't make the 8 from here.

Lol
Did you watch the game?
And clearly I wasn’t alone with my ‘negativity’

Re: Match Thread Saints v Roos Round 8 2023
Been awhile since I’ve seen a live game and it turned out to be one of the worst I’ve seen
Mistakes by both sides were comical. The crowd were laughing a lot of the time
Getting to see the whole ground for a change
Nth always beat us in the air
Nth put the pressure on and we couldn’t cope a lot of the time.
They ran and picked us up We didn’t do that
Nth are. Poor side. We were terrible and should have boosted our percentage. If we had been playing a good side it would have been ugly
Lyon should be angry
And probably with himself as well
Seeing Owen in the flesh was a highlight for me.
Sinclair Wilkie so skilled
I’ll take the win but not impressed

Most inaccurate first quarter in the history of the Dome?
Sounds like they’re being too negative.

He’s a butcher. Needs to be replaced along with Paton.

What about our ball butchering? Let me guess outstanding North defence and pressure.

RTB says it was a rolled ankle and will be ok for next week. Likewise Gresh, a knock on the knee, should be ok, although he may be under pressure from Billings anyway to retain his spot.

Re: Match Thread Saints v Roos Round 8 2023
Just got back...won't bother watching the replay....better than losing I guess, which is what we would have done last year.
Sides have worked us out, tight accountable man on man marking is the way to play us.
We need King back as a target.
Members was awful tonight, albeit not through lack of effort.
Caminiti should come under consideration too, and Sharman was amongst our best

Re: Match Thread Saints v Roos Round 8 2023
Far from pretty, but some rare things for the Saints.
While things were looking ugly pre-season with our injury list and media pile-ons about our list, recruitment and the entire club being crap we are 6-2, 3rd on the ladder with a healthy percentage of 137.1%.
With a supposedly crap recruitment policy, incapable of drafting quality young talent in the past two seasons we have unearthed genuine young stars in Owens, Wanganeen, Milera, Windhager, Caminiti and Phillipou. I amsure there are many aging, success starved male supporters who find watching Owens and Phillipou fly for marks is a Viable alternative to Viagra.
I am sure many will be saying this was the worst St Kilda winsince whenever. It makes a nice change from comparing losses.
We have been exposed for our lack of height up forward in the past two weeks, which has put more pressure on our defensive structure. But our structure stands up. King and Caminiti should be back in a couple of weeks to provide forward contestant, at worst, provide more crumbs for our small forwards.
Yep, definitely our worst win in white a while but we doubled North's score in a game we would probably have lost in past seasons. I'll take the 4 points, thank you.

Curly, you can't just cut and paste the same stuff every week. It cheating. Fair enough, Paton was tres ordinaire today but Byrnes again had 24 possessions and ran his backside off. He and Wood are our two best distance runners, so his big tank is easier to focus on than his odd clangerand much more beneficial for the team. His tackling is well above par as well.CURLY wrote: ↑Sun 07 May 2023 9:34pmTrev from the Bush wrote: ↑Sun 07 May 2023 9:26pmCurly, do you have another record you can play or are they all cracked?

We’re 6-2. Put the 4pts in the back pocket.. let’s be realistic, we’re not winning the flag this year. RTB is figuring out who will take us to the promised land . Have faith Saintsationalists- I do.

Re: Match Thread Saints v Roos Round 8 2023
Yep, we're getting better with the addition of a few talented youngsters in the past 18 months, but we don't yet have a top 4 list, and until that happens we ain't gonna win it.
We're still about three quality players short of seriously challenging

Re: Match Thread Saints v Roos Round 8 2023
Yep my take too Tony
Midfield needs some serious work - kids will help Owens looked superb in there today ….what a find …
Last 3 weeks think we’ve looked really slow in there ..Steele isn’t what he was but that injury looks to still be on his mind …Clarke been good
Forward line - I think we have the future pieces there now…we’ve got to play them together so they gel ….definitely King …I think Caminiti and I would give Sharman that licence to be new Membrey but up and down ground/high forward coming back…
Defence - superb already

Re: Match Thread Saints v Roos Round 8 2023
Our run this year is infinitely easier than last year. I’m not sure how we copped such a fluffy draw; although I’ll take it given we normally get fkd over every year.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Sun 07 May 2023 9:49pmLOL - like last year? We almost doubled their score. Our percentage went from 133 to 137.
