meher baba wrote: Fri 05 May 2023 6:23pm For reasons that I posted earlier today, I appreciate that bringing in Billings for Cordy wasn’t possible, because it would make the forward line too short.

Still, it saddens me to see a journeyman like Sharman get promoted to seniors ahead of a classy player like Billings.

I realise that most posters won’t care because Sharman wasn’t taken with pick 3 ahead of the Bont.
I get what you’re saying. To be honest… I personally completely think Billings ahead of Cordy makes sense and is worth a go. I really don’t think this much vaunted Cordy role is worth much.

What I would point out is that Billings has just come back after a long lay off and has had some opportunities before being ok.
And in this case, I dare say they’re looking for a forward.

Regardless… Billings will get his chance sooner rather than later. He’s too good not too. But like a lot of players over his era… he’s been around a long time and time is running out for him to be a consistent feature in the top 22.

He's certainly has more forward craft than Cordy.

Glad he's got an opportunity. He'll need to bring some intensity, hard running and defensive pressure if he wants to impress the coach

'Journeyman' is from medieval French, 'journee' for 'daily' plus 'man.
In feudal times, there were blokes living in castles and on estates, who didn't have a regular role such as blacksmiths, etc.
They were tasked with any odd job that came up- the original handyman.

People misunderstood the word and thought it meant someone who keeps changing workplaces and locations.

Why don't you google it

Thanks. I had just decided to let it go: I probably should have used “hack” instead, but that would be a bit harsh on Sharman, who I think has some ability without being anything special.

Windhager and Bytel on the fringes (on the outer even?). Hope they are not looking for greener pastures. Can’t afford to lose either.

So ...Coops comes in and let's say (I'm being the devils advocate here) that we lose...

Does match committee conveniently have a scapegoat and drop him the following week?

Will half the people here on the forum say that Cooper should be delisted...just because the match committee set him up to fail?

It isn't the wrong decision to give him a go. I think it will be the wrong decision to drop him after only playing him for 1 game against North Melbourne

A journeyman in footy vernacular means someone who has played at multiple clubs eg/Tom Hickey

I don’t care what it meant in the 16th century renaissance period in France!

I hope that happens for his sake.

If it does and and if we have a good win, I hope they give him a at least a couple of games.

What no Vort to be wish him well?
And those constantly bagging Cordy have NFI and know more than the coach cause they can look up stats?
We are in good hands.
Hope Sharman does well - suspect he’ll need to or it’s a 1 week hit

Cooper has been training and playing on the wing.

I can only assume that our fitness stats suggest that guys like Byrnes, Hill and Wood need some reduced minutes this week.

Nas is playing well where he is so you wouldn't want to move him.

I can't see Cooper playing as a deep forward.

Cooper must be doing well to get a game under Ross. Considering where he has come from, he has been excellent. Playing for his list spot. He won’t get too many chances.

With the amount of players coming back, he is going to need to impress quickly to hold his spot.
King and Caminiti both due back within the week or so. A fit Billings on the wing would be an upgrade on him as well.

So no rest for Poe? People thought he needed a rest.

I thought that before the PA game, that was the time to leave a few out that may not have contributed 100+ minutes. 9 day break since then changes things.

Caminiti will definitely play in the seniors when he returns from his 3-match suspension, but I doubt Hayes will be back this season judging by what I heard him say at training recently, and I am still not convinced that Max will be back as soon as what has been reported either.
I think if we win well tomorrow Caminiti will come into the forward line to play full forward.

He is in on his great form in the VFL where he has played on the wing and in defence and done nothing
And hasn't played a game for over 3 weeks
Where is Sharman going to play it car't be up forward pinching in Ruck as he has played defence or wing most of the time over the last few years.
Selection integrity ha!!! windhager has been good Bytel has killed it in the VFL with 38 disposals and played well for the last few weeks
JB kicked 3 goals last in the VFL and his form is even more recent then Sharman.

You’d have to imagine he’ll play forward. The mobile wing role will stay with Mason, Owens etc. They’re all in the team.

He’s come in for Cordy… have to imagine they would hope he can take a few grabs.

As far as Billings, Bytel and Windy go… I reckon any of them with the exception of Billings due to injury… could have come in weeks ago and contributed what Cordy brought to the team

He played a reasonable defensive forward game on Geelong Stewart last year, so I'd be confident he can give more than Cordy
