Actually, I'm calling it now. Will take mark of the round sitting on Sheezel's head, and the rising star nomination.

I said this last week...it was the game to rest 3 players who were struggling...but for all the paradigm shifts RTB has made in his game since Ver 1.0....he still leaves a dead horse in the race to get flogged....

I don’t think this is the same thing when we are talking about young Pou, but perhaps you’re onto something regarding Zaine

Pou has talent. We know that by seeing the kid play and not just because he was a top 10 draft pick. I’m happy that we are getting more games into some of our youth.

With the young bloke, it’s obviously beneficial to get games experience, however there is a threshold that they’ve crossed (in my opinion) and he should have been rested either against Collingwood in the away game in Round 5 or against Port last week when it was only a 5 day break.

You have to remember that he also played in both the practice games at the start of the year against Essendon and Melbourne.

The sports science guys don’t always get things right. The other thing that clubs need to be aware of, is that a player could lie on the their welfare check and could be carrying some soreness they’re not disclosing so that they get a game each week

Having said all that, I think when it gets to a point that you haven’t rested him for a 5 day break, why the hell would you rest him for a 9 day break? Especially when he gets to go up against a fair amount of young blokes in the opposition line up.

Love this nickname of Poe, as it makes me think of the wonderful Edgar Allan Poe.

But I’m inclined to agree with OP. He looks out of sorts against Port. Give the lad a spell with Sandy and get him motivated enough to fight for his way back into the team.

9 day break. No one needs a rest.

Phillipou had his minutes managed in Round 6 & 7 due to the short break (like most).

There is absolutely nothing to be gained by demoting him to slog it out in the freezing rain on Sunday at Arden Street.

Phillipou is averaging 5 score involvements a game, only Hunter Clark averages more from less time on ground.

Yes the 9 day break changes everything.

Plenty of time for anyone who was cooked last week to recover.

Looking at the way we ran out the Port game, I think the 'flatness' was more mental than physical. We clearly had it in us, just didn't beleive it.

If there was ever any doubt on the dubious character of this BM twit, this is the post to dispel it.

What a moronic thing to say.

How he doesn’t cop a lengthy ban from these pages after this post is beyond me?

Ross don't do creative selections.

His approach has always been 1) establish a structure which he thinks works best, 2) train every player to play one, or at most a couple, of those positions; and 3) pick the best available to fill each position.

He does not generally see a loss as a trigger for wholesale selection changes. And the way he measures performance is different to that of most other coaches, and particularly to the assessment made by most fans. For him, the key performance indicators are that the player maintained his position in the structure and played his role the way he was coached to do it.

Like BM, I would have thought that bringing Billings in this week would add something to the side. But, to the extent that Lyon might have felt like dropping any players after a loss, he did not see Billings as being able to fill their role. Eg, Philippou had a relatively weak game, but Ross wants a player of his size in the role that he is playing, and JB is not tall enough to do the job.

I don't agree with BM or others who want Cordy dropped. We were too short against Port as it was, and we don't want to go up against any team with a mini forward line.

Jack B may not be suitably fit.
Matteus would have received supplementary coaching this week and deserves a chance to apply that.
Membrey also deserves another opportunity. There is no obvious substitute for Zaine. He is mighty versatile.
Another flat one from Membrey then out for Caminiti.
We really need Heath to develop asap.
Backs ok, followers ok, mids ok, its the forwards that are letting the side down. That group should be under more scrutiny than Zaine or the coach. I think.

Spot on. It's a reason I very rarely look here anymore. There's a handful continue to drag it down and nothing is done. Come on Brian. Fix it.

I wouldn’t send him to the twos, if he needs a break he should have a weekend off playing and a few days in Adelaide with his family.

May need a physical and mental refresher after his first AFL preseason and a decent load in the first portion of the season.

We’ll wait and see I guess.

How long do you develop a player for?

Roma debut at almost 22, breakout season 2019 at 23/24.

Yep, no rush when you believe you've got a good one. Especially a ruckman. Young rucks break easily, Max Gawn is a good example.

A mate of mine is a good mate of his dad's. Reckons he's so keen that the Saints have been holding him back. He apparently misses a couple of sessions a week so that they can manage him

Now there's an enlightened response. It doesn't really or it does? It seems like it effected the poster.

I received a ban for likening one of our players to a hygiene product, I'd be surprised that alleged "sexual favour" allegations escapes a sanction. God forbid someone said it about the other Ross.
