He certainly isn't. That's the point. He came in for AC. And yes Tim has serious limitations.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Mon 01 May 2023 8:13pmKey forward? Tim is a massive 188cm tall! Owens and The Poo are both taller.
He is an exceptional mark for his size, but he is not a key position forward.
Tim is a "third tall" which is code for a player who is a good mark, but does not have the size to play as a key forward.
He needs to the foil to the dual act King and Caminiti. Or at least one of them.
With Cordy the supposed Key Position Decoy to much load goes on to Tim.

Re: Mids
It's funny and a little ironic that when Tim Membrey arrived at St Kilda he wasn't valued...for same or similar reasons to now...I thought back in 2015 that once he came into the team that he deserved to stay in the seniors.
There was a perception (wrongly mind you) that he wasn't as worthy as others or he didn't have as many weapons and a limited ceiling for development versus others.
At that time, 2015/2016 we had Roo (top banana in the forward line and our captain) plus Josh Bruce (second banana) and then you had the 2014 Number1 draft pick in McCartin who we needed to fast track with the imminent retirement of our top Forward banana.
As well as these pure forwards, there was Tom Hickey and Billy Longer who often rested forward and we had a guy at Sandy in Buddy Spencer White who was also a forward prospect. Tim struggled to hold a spot in the seniors because every loss meant the coach needed scapegoats
The coaches at the time kept dropping Tim Membrey so Tim had to fight harder than others and each game he came in he played to a level where the coaches were forced to retain him.
Probably similar to when Jack Steele arrived at St Kilda. The coaches thought other players like Newnes, Koby Stevens, Acres, Dunstan, Nathan Wright and Weller were better than Steele. Billings was also favoured to go in the middle ahead of Steele.
I think with King out with injury and the Caminiti suspension (plus the pressure from losses) people are forgetting how valuable Tim has been to our side. He is valuable but he has never been and should NOT be expected to be top banana.
So right now in 2023 it's back to that 2015 mentality and there are some who believe Membrey doesn't have a place in the team.

Re: Mids
3rd tall forward
Slow decision maker
Zero defensive pressure
Doesn’t lead or crash a pack
Needs to kick goals weekly to offset those deficits
Isn’t getting younger
Big year for Tim

Bulldust it's a big year. No different
He's been doing his job and doing it well for 150 games+ for the Saints
Btw...what is his job? You said it the first line of your post
When King and Hammer are back and Tim plays his role, people will put their tails between their legs and stfu

Re: Mids
The thread has been derailed
It's Tim Membrey's fault that our wingers and mids kept kicking long bombs into the forward line
It's not good enough that he can't leap over 8 people and take mark of the year at least once every quarter
It's also better to drop Tim (who definitely won't grow 6 inches before our Round 8 match) rather than get the mids to lower their eyes or run and gun -like Hunter did - and possibly contribute with some goals themselves.
Mids are allowed to kick goals. I'm sure Ross doesn't have a rule saying they can't

You’re only as good as your next game
Last game was a write off
Let’s hope Caminiti keeps coming on
Exciting times as he’s the future in terms of our next GF
Tim isn’t

**** run and lead up at the ball
Don’t stand there 3 deep demanding the ball to be kicked on your head
If you’re a 3rd tall - friggin play like that and to your strengths
You are never pushing Allir etc out of the contest so don’t be dumb
Yes mids lower your eyes (been done to death)
But our forward line looked more dangerous and mobile without Tim and when Caminiti etc were hitting packs
Pies is the blueprint- MOVE
Slow decision making and treacle movement from Tim wont cut it
He gets a chance against a bottom side this week to show his wares
Step up time Tim - 3rd game back so no excuses

My god
This thread is ridiculous
Almost embarrassingly stupid
Cordy and Caminiti better than Membrey
FFS - I’ve heard it all
BTW
Not answered - how did Tim play 2 weeks ago?!

Re: Mids
What an hysterical rambling comment
Tim was Shiite last game
He needs to be better this week
We are a developing side I personally hope Caminiti takes Tims spot …it means we’ve developed and improved
You start screaming hysterically everyday?

You and others want a scapegoat for our loss. If we'd won you'd be highlighting Hunter Clark's brilliant goal and the effort of Marshall in the last quarterTeflon wrote: ↑Tue 02 May 2023 12:08amTim can help himselfScollop wrote: ↑Mon 01 May 2023 10:06pm The thread has been derailed

Tim was part of that the coach in his presser said so…Ross does pressers as much to send a message to players
Was that our sole reason for the loss??
An even simpler person would suggest there was only 1
Whose got the time to educate them… not I

I get it now. You listened to the after match journo q and a. So that's why Yorkeys and yourself were parroting what was said by Ross.
I didn't watch it. I just watch the actual game. I understand how his disciples took his words as 'gospel' (i.e as a message to Tim...as you stated)
Pity you don't see things objectively and you didn't realise it was Ross deflecting

Re: Mids
Attended. Saw good and faithful servant Tim in action. Thought : poor guy he's rusty as. Later, as Port defenders marked with amazing regularity, thought: Tim at least contest, play man on man if you can't judge the flight, you were Ratts go to guy behind the ball, defend the defenders. He was pretty ineffectual after long time out ? but yes I think Caminiti is a far superior option, even if Tim improves. Good sides' defenders can just make Tim a spectator. With Max and AC available can't see TM being a regular.Scollop wrote: ↑Tue 02 May 2023 9:34pmI get it now. You listened to the after match journo q and a.
