Injuries hurting now
Byrnes over Billings
Paton over Webster
Cordy over King
Those three in over these liabilities and we win.

Re: Injuries hurting now
I’m not so sure…
Byrnes has generally been good albeit he had a down performance tonight. The kid is still developing and the feature that’s emerging is that he’s a player that at this point… can still be neutralised.
Hopefully with more games/development, he can close the gap btw better and worst or bring able to work into games after flat patches.
Billings has the same challenges but with less durability.
Paton over Webster… fair enough. Ben has unfortunately struggled this season especially by foot and not come on as we’d like.
King v Cordy… dead wrong. King might take contested marks and kick goals… but does he block, bring toughness, presence, size, make his team mates feel taller, add to the structure etc
Some may be critical of the fact that Cordy’s game effectively ended after 10min with his one kick… they’re not seeing what the coaches and I see - MVP

Re: Injuries hurting now
Some kids need a rest;
Phillipou looks buggered and I hope RL addresses the kick around the corner immediately.
Windhager needs game time at Sandy, looks slow and well off the pace.
Billings and Bytel to come in and I think the Cordy experiment is over, bring in Sharman as another option up forward.

Re: Injuries hurting now
I wasn’t following cordy too hard, but he did win a couple of centre bounce ruck contests to our advantage against finlayson.skeptic wrote: ↑Fri 28 Apr 2023 11:41pm I’m not so sure…

Yes, we have been. Ross is no fool, but he can only work with what he’s got and the blueprint to beat is now out.

Injuries hurt EVEN after selection.
Steele was a liability.

Re: Injuries hurting now
I don’t understand your dislike for Byrnes. The kid has been a jet this year. Brings some much needed pace to our line up and his disposal is nowhere as bad as you make out.
I notice no umpire bashing tonight?

All in all its a wonder it was only 7 points.
Timmy might find himself playing more Zebra games if he doesn't lift considerably & quickly. Caminiti back in a couple of weeks.

Membrey for a senior leader /forward needs to lift
Ironically forward line looked more dangerous with Caminit there …

Re: Injuries hurting now
What makes you think Billings would have contributed to a win. He has been one of the most inconsistent players on our list. And the fact we overlooked Bontempelli for that pleb still gives me nightmares!
Also, Ryan Byrnes has showed more backbone this season than Billings ever has in the whole 10 years he’s been at the club!

Byrnes is just no good. His kicks are safe and short rarely if ever sets up play. Fumbles and unaccountable.
Umpires gave us a good run why complain although they cost us 4 goals with baffling calls.

Re: Injuries hurting now
I suspect the poster is just one of many Saints supporters who, whenever they look at Billings running around, simply can't get beyond ruminating about our number 3 draft pick and the Bont being taken at number 4.
It's extremely silly. While not being anywhere near as good a player as Bont, Billings is certainly good enough that he would be an improvement on several of the 23 who ran out last night.

Membrey played like a guy who's been out for a while, so he shouldn't be out thereYorkeys wrote: ↑Sat 29 Apr 2023 1:45amAnd Tim M unimpressive.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Sat 29 Apr 2023 1:18am Injuries hurt EVEN after selection.

Re: Injuries hurting now
Membrey has never been a key forward and cannot play that role.
He will be fine if we have a tall forward either King or Caminiti, and then he doesn’t play on the best key defender

If you read the recent article on the Bont, no one other than the dullbogs were thinking of taking him before round 10 or thereaboutsmeher baba wrote: ↑Sat 29 Apr 2023 1:00pmI suspect the poster is just one of many Saints supporters who, whenever they look at Billings running around, simply can't get beyond ruminating about our number 3 draft pick and the Bont being taken at number 4.

Re: Injuries hurting now
On the backline, it's Nick Coffield we are missing along with Dan McKenzie.
In both 2021 and 2022, Tim Membrey kicked 34 goals - that's 1.6 per game. Max King kicked 38 and 52, that's 2.4 per game. So, we lost 4 goals per game with both out. Tim Membrey has not had a full preseason and cannot do what both he and Max did. The question will be whether we can 'hang on" until the two are back and fit (round 14), or whether this season will go the same way as last season.
