Owens is a Jet
Yes I know we have multiple topics on Mitchito
However, I predict this
If the season keeps going like this and all stay fit.
He will win the rising star
Yes the sheez and Ashcroft are ahead at the moment , and both are fantastic, but they both don’t have Owens ability at this stage to swing a game
I think that by the end of the season judges will be remembering those goals and marks and influence on games rather than 30 possessions in a losing side
Just quietly however Ashcroft is sensational, one of those players where time stands still around him, so clean, gun of the future

Re: Owens is a Jet
It's only round 6, but I have Ashcroft and Owens ahead of the rest. I also have Ginbey ahead of Sheezel.
Look out for Humphrey and Mackenzie. Cadman looks dangerous but yet to deliver.
Noah Long is a smokey from PIck 58.
Hollands a chance for this weeks nomination unless something comes from the next 2 games or Humphrey gets a nod from his subsitute blitz.
Top 10 picks yet to debut:
Wardlaw
Tsatsas
Clark

Re: Owens is a Jet
I think it's going to come down to a few but forward versus midfielders is never easy. Although I agree. He has been sensational and is still raw in terms of his disposal. But the kid is a competitor. He may bring back the CHF role they way he is going. 1 on 1 beast and still a chance 2 on 1.Otiman wrote: ↑Mon 24 Apr 2023 2:51pm It's only round 6, but I have Ashcroft and Owens ahead of the rest. Re: Owens is a Jet
Owens is not a bad ruckman and his tap outs are pretty good. He also becomes another midfielder as soon as the ball goes to ground.

It's scary how effective a 19-year old kid of that size is able to be as a second ruck! Then justs morphs straight into a big-bodied mid after the ball-up!!

Re: Owens is a Jet
He’s a better second ruckman to the other guy!!!
Look, Mitchito looks very promising- like a young Nat Fyfe
But is raw and needs polishing
We also thought Windhager was a future gun, he’s also got some work to do imo

Don't know if the broken hand or playing permanent sub has impacted him, but Windy looking like a case of 2nd year blues right now......

Re: Owens is a Jet
We still think Windhager is a future gun.
Working on having an instant impact, with fresh legs, as the sub, is a pretty perfect, considering the age of our 3 best mids and Mason Wood who are the real reason we are being successful.
Working him into it beautifully, I reckon. No need to ride him into the ground, particularly now Steele, Crouch and Ross finally have the support they need in Gresham, Clark and Windhager/Phillipou/Owens.
8 mids getting 20+ possessions each every week, seems like a sustainable plan to me.
If Crouch, Steele or Ross have an off week, we won't notice as much.

Yeah he’s a gun, that goal from 60 in the last quarter just shouts superstar, took it upon himself to get the job done

Owens also seems to have a good tank...still sprinting to second and third efforts deep in last quarter.

Re: Owens is a Jet
I think you're right. Just quietly, I'm surprised he isn't getting more praise in the media or on commentary. When he drilled that goal from 60 on the run, none of the commentators mentioned him by name or sounded that excited (almost like they didn't know who it was at first and had to check their notes). Make what you will from that, but it's just surprising to me that no one is talking about him much. Amazing given he also goes to most ruck contests too now and usually wins it to advantage.

I thought it was odd that the only time for the match that BT shut his mouth was when Owens kicked that goal.Trixilver wrote: ↑Tue 25 Apr 2023 10:49am I think you're right. I had Windhager solidly ahead of Owens for this year. Whilst windy has been slightly under expectations, Mitch has far exceeded it.
Every team needs game breakers, and Owens is definitely one of those.

"Owens the Saint" comes Marching in!
I can see the headlines now
Was always destined to be ours - particularly in the fact that out of the two most had Windy being bid on before we got a chance
You could almost argue that in the past 2 drafts we have got 4 top 5 picks
Owens
Wanganeen Milera
Windhager
Phillipou
Names that could be 200+ game players
