14-4

Post: # 2004101Post CURLY »

How does this happen?

Last week 10-4

Membrey clear mark not payed

Bynes doesn’t take possession he just gets thrown to ground.

Higgins head taken off then squashed into the ground and it play on.

All three shots on goal.

Carlton forward line even the most biased of umpire suppprters would say they were ridiculously soft.

The 50 and goal the commentators were laughing.

Why?

Why are we getting shafted.

Can only hope they level it up in the second half Curly, though I wouldn’t count on it

The umpiring is very lopsided and is impacting the scoreboard.

Carlton got a few soft frees which resulted in goals.

Unfortunately, the umpires missed all our frees.

Pathetic!

Why though? Is it cheating?

Seems like it has to be. Can’t be so biased and miss so much one way.

You know it's an average decision when they can't even show the replay of the free kick.

20-14
They gave up once they realised they could not break the Saints.

Yep. When the maggots are s*** and biased to hell, watching is very difficult.

I wonder if some of that poker money the brown baggers drag in isn't finding its way into the maggots christmas fund.

I am not joking either.

Maggots releasing brownlow polling and betting on the results should have removed any doubts the average joe blow had on maggots integrity or lack of.

When I saw the free kick count at half time, I was confident we could win because I knew we would win the count in the second half.

24 frees against and only 8 for, in two halves of football should sound alarm bells for the AFLin general and RTB in particular.

I thought most of the free kicks were there. A few were a bit dodgy, and that was frustrating, and also had the effect of keeping the Blues in the game for longer than they deserved. But it didn't matter in the end.

Yep, umpires were just calling what was there.

If you clearly have your arm over a blokes shoulder, or stretch the jumper, or jump on their back after a mark, or come in late and knock the ball out of their hands, you’re just giving the umps a reason to call it.

Thought our backs panicked a bit unnecessarily today, they’ll learn hopefully.

So pay them both ways!

Call a mark a mark

Call it out when the ball clearly bounces entirely over the line

Call throwing a player to the ground

Don't go hard of decisions that are technically there while ignoring the above obvious ones.

It is not that the frees aren't there - because if we paid ALL technical frees there would be 10 Umpires and 100 frees per side.
It is consistency - like today one umpire said - pull a jumper and it is an automatic free - but then up the other end it was not paid.

Also - Also - is shepherding a player out of contesting a mark even a free anymore?

I don't think there is cheating - but with now 4 umpires interpretations and focus can change from one end to the other

Battle deserves a medal for keeping his cool after the soft 50 metre penalty paid against him. Curnow was acting and made it look much worse than it actually was. He propelled himself forward

This was after the 3 soft frees against Battle which resulted in goals to Curnow.

I hope it bites Charlie on the arse and the umpires don't pay him anything dubious in the next few weeks. Hope it costs Carlton a close game

You can’t juggle a mark over the boundary, so not a bad decision.

Yep the ball was clearly out of bounds, got that one wrong, or do u think he saw it and deliberately didn’t pay an obvious free?

Yep Howard tackle should have been called a dangerous one, I think that Carlton bloke will go for that one.

Plenty went out way too, no one likes to highlight those tho for some reason 🤷‍♂️

And I think there were five 50 penalties tonight going both ways, all of equal degree of pettiness IMO

Someone needs glasses. Membrey didn't juggle the ball across the line.

I thought it was soft but clearly 50.
The 2nd movement of Battle into Curnow was always going to be 50, no matter how little force.

I though Howards 50 against McKay was also there.

Agreed, incredibly soft frees when the game was in the balance.

The Membrey non mark was a howler, the umpire on the replay suggests he didn't hold it long enough, not juggled.

Clearly a mark for mine.

Other than a couple of softies to Curnow I thought the umpiring wasn't noticeable.

The Silvagni 50 pissed me off the most !
Drops the ball when grabbed
Looks at the ump
Gets 50
But missed the goal 😂
Wouldn’t get a game with most teams

How does this happen because the AFL increased to 4 umpires per game . This means that there are 9 umpires per week that up until this season were not considered good enough to get a game every week are now doing so. Like expansion teams the talent is stretched too thin. When Elinie becomes in the top half of umpires then something is wrong with the system not because of improvement but because of increased sub standard numbers.

Until we get 100,000 members and consistent highly vocal crowds, or umpires become professional enough to not favour the home crowd on reflex, then its a cross we carry.

Be interesting if noise cancelling ear pieces were invented.

Thought our chaps were well disciplined despite umpire provocation at times.
