I'll be surprised if Windy is not given the job on Walsh.

Carlton's two big forwards will only benefit if their mids are allowed to deliver the ball without pressure. God help us if that's the case.

There is the obvious one.
Then Jack Captain in for Gresh or Butler.
Now, Bytel needs a full game, so Butler sub, or Gresham or Highmore.
Gresham might need quiet time to consider how long he wants to stall contract talks.

Highmore no matchup this week. Butler has been doing his job and keeps his spot.

Bytel to be the sub again.

Cordy, Cooper & Campbell to miss seems the logical line-up.

So your outs are Caminiti and Cordy?

That leaves us a severely short in the forward line....

Perhaps they’ll go for a Cordy - Membrey sub-swap? Hope not, but Membrey hasn’t played a game since Aug ‘22! And he’s not a kid…that’s nearly seven months!

Wasn't Bytel the sub last week?

OUTS: Caminiti & Cordy

INS: Steele & Membrey

If you look at our "extended" bench, who would you drop to make us taller?

I cannot see Clark, Stocker, Butler or Windhager being dropped...Butler is our only tackler in the F50, Windhager is our only player with the discipline to tag & Clark & Stocker's form has been too good.

I reckon Bytel or Cordy gets in for Adelaide, but not sure who comes out?

It's certainly not easy but i just think Ross would be loath to alter the set up that much and leave us that short.

Bytel, back to Sandy
Windy, sub

I dunno...

I think you're right rd, Bytel is likely to be the one to miss out.

He's stiff because he's done well enough in the seconds to put his hand up for promotion, has yet to play a full game in the firsts this year to prove himself to the selectors.

In some respects I'd almost play him ahead of Gresham who's been unremarkable so far this year.

Spot on realdeal, Windy the likely sub. Well deduced. Does this mean Ross to Walsh? Walsh cannot be allowed to run around without attention.

Seems structure is unconditional to RTB.

Windy or Bytel will be the sub...

Both listed as emergencies after being omitted.

To not play Windy or Bytel is rolling the dice a bit. These guys are the role players who would potentially lock down a Walsh or Cripps.

I felt (and posted) that Steele for Windy and Membrey for Caminiti would be the only changes. Ross does like to retain his structure.

Windhager would make sense as the substitute: you want to keep rotating players through that role. Bytel will benefit from a full game with the Zebras.

Tend to agree. Hopefully Windhager is sub. He is one who needs to go to a new level. Hoping he can be not only a good tagger, but a prolific ball-winner too

It’s not really Steele, it’s a body double.

Secret_Vortex told me after doing some research on YouTube.

I'm no expert on mendiing collarbones but strkes me as bizarre that he's back so early.

Hope they're not being rash as McKay is sure to run through him (with immunity, of course).

If it's good enough for Carlton to manage De Koning, surely we should be doing the same with some of our players. I have a feeling we probably should consider resting/managing Pou.

It's important not to put too much stress on his growing frame. Don't wait for the kid to show signs of fatigue. Be pre-emptive. We want him to be around for the next 10 years

At the start of the last quarter against Collingwood when the game was up for grabs we had Seb Ross, Brad Crouch and Jack Sinclair for centre bounces. We were already 1 goal down. Taylor Adams did the damage with 2 ground ball wins from 2 virtually neutral ruck contests and both these centre clearances resulted in goals.

If we lose to Carlton, and if the combination of Crouch, Seb Ross, Sinclair, Byrnes, and Gresham aren't getting it done, then one of these guys needs to make way. I don’t think we should wait.

This week against Carlton, I personally would have tried Bytel in the middle as the inside mid and given Jack Steele the job on the outside as the distributor (at least until he feels a little more confident with that broken collarbone)

Bytel would be feeling pretty fresh because he hasn't played that many minutes. Same with Windy who was out in the early rounds and came in as sub when he returned

If team balance is an issue then drop Gresham or Ross or Crouch. Try Owens, Bytel and Clark as the starting mids. These 3 guys are ball winners and they may be better distributors than Gresh, Crouch and Ross

It is an exploratory year after all

Edit…If we win I’ll reconsider. You have to support the guys getting the job done

I think Gresham would be a good sub as an impact player,

Need to start the game switched-on from the first bounce. We gave Collingwood the advantage last week by letting their midfield off the leash early.

Pure guess it was repaired with a plate and this would be left in and probably not removed until end of season.

How many poor games does Gresham get a pass for, esp. now Bytel and Windhager are missing out on a start.
Gresh butchered (at least) one great opportunity early in Sunday's game by taking his eye off the ball, maybe trying to be too cute planning his next move - but you need the ball in hand.
He is class so should play a blinder this week. May have been distracted by the 30 year abuse thing commemoration* and expectations. Anniversaries are ok but before game stuff might well be better kept to a bare minimum distraction, although I guess the fanfare helps broadcasters have a theme. Goodness knows they struggle having to ad lib.

DeKoning has not played well for last two weeks, I think. Perhaps he has also signalled going to Geelong. Caminiti out allows Carlton to drop him.

* for consistency Collingwood should now be making weekly apologies for the next 10 plus years. But you know, Nathan Murphy's law often applies.
