Changes v paper baggers
In: Steele, Membrey
Out: Caminiti (Suspended - anyone gets concussion someone has to miss the new AFL rule), Phillipou (Managed)
Sure I will get smashed for suggesting a rest for Mattaes but it is a long season and got ourselves in a position to do such things.
I would also play Bytel and make Windy the sub.

Re: Changes v paper baggers
Out: Caminiti, Paton, Cordy, Bytel (Sub)
In: Membrey, Steele, Campbell
Cordy is not performing as needed as a forward/ruck. With Membrey available, it might be worth having Marshall play the high CHF role as we seemed to miss a genuine marking target down the line.
Campbell goes into the ruck - deserves his shot...Possibly should have played last week to really exploit Collingwoods weakness.
Owens will benefit from having an experienced full forward.

Re: Changes v paper baggers
There is no way Paton will be dropped
Do people calling for him to go actually look at the opposition
Carlton forward line apart from the towers is full of small fast forwards (Fisher, Durdin Motlop maybe Owies)
Who is going to play on them?

Re: Changes v paper baggers
According to yesterday's updated injury list on sportingnews.com.au Jack Steele is still 1-2 weeks away which would appear to me to be more than likely.....wonder if Lyons is playing mind games with Voss?
If Steele is cleared to play then he and Membrey are obvious Ins, probably for Bytel (sub) and the likely suspended Caminiti.
If Blues #1 ruckman Marc Pittonet recovers from his eye injury I'm wondering if selectors will look at bringing Tom Campbell in, as he's been dominating in the seconds, which as someone has pointed out will give St Kilda a chance to have another strong big man up forward.
This will depend on whether or not there is provision in the coaches' "system" and game plan for two ruckmen, and given how well the team has performed this year, maybe not....

Any chance Sharman gets a look in?
Caminiti out, and Cordy underwhelming
Membrey and Sharman come in
Owens 2nd ruck

Could be ok. I heard Membrey didn't do too well at Sandy thoughBanger9798 wrote: ↑Tue 18 Apr 2023 5:08pm Any chance Sharman gets a look in?

First cab(s) off the rank - Injured players who prove their fitness this week
Second cab(s) off the rank - Sharman and Campbell being the Subs taken to Adelaide.
Third cab(s) off the rank - Sandringham form among the few who appeared for Sandringham
Then who is not available this week, so who needs to be replaced.
From there, form and contribution v Collingwood, a game we lost.
My question remains Higgins, Gresham and Butler.
Gresham can contribute to the midfield rotations.
Higgins can mark overhead.
So I would give preference to those 2 over Butler.
Plus, I did not think Paton was so poor. Yes a few possessions were smothered but he was not alone when working in tight contests.
He got done over the back but that was down to the surrender of possession where that surrender should not have occurred, leaving Paton exposed.

How about Heath as a wild card to replace the hammer (dependent on Membrey)desertsaint wrote: ↑Tue 18 Apr 2023 6:24pm well if steele and membrey aint back, and cami is gone, then i can only see one change. who best takes cami's spotand role? sharman, campbell, or highmore?
His form is pretty ok in the Zebs, maybe he would be inspired by watching another young guy (in the hammer) strut his stuff

Membrey is clearly available, so why wouldn't he come back?desertsaint wrote: ↑Tue 18 Apr 2023 6:24pm well if steele and membrey aint back, and cami is gone, then i can only see one change. who best takes cami's spotand role? sharman, campbell, or highmore?
And Steele is listed as "test". And Lyon has effectively said that, if Steele is fit, he will play against Carlton.
I also note that Billings is listed as "test". So he might come back for Sandy this week. If he goes well, and Gresham has another poor game against the Blues, that's a potential change against Port.

Re: Changes v paper baggers
I like it.
But for some reason I think Lyon will prefer to keep Cordy in until King returns .
I suspect Bytel gets dropped to get a full game at Sandy.
Apart from King, I’m really looking forward to getting Webster back. I thought he was very good in the games he played this year.

Re: Changes v paper baggers
Ross unlikely to make many changes.
Membrey in for Cameneti
Steele for Windhager
Windhager sub.
Gresham would want to pull his finger out.

Yeah I must admit I wasn’t a massive Webster fan and thought he might go for a Coffield….but he’s stepped upZed wrote: ↑Tue 18 Apr 2023 9:40pmI like it.

Paton (who I was a fan of) has me a tad concerned…seems to have gone backwards a bit..

Re: Changes v paper baggers
The reason Lyon has preferred Cordy up to now is that he likes to maintain his structure, and replacing a tall with an in-and-under midfielder would require him to make lots of other adjustments.Zed wrote: ↑Tue 18 Apr 2023 9:40pmI like it.

If Steele does come back this week, then our engine room has already been strengthened, and we don't need another similar player like Bytel. Lyon's patience with Cordy will perhaps run out at some point, but I don't think it will be this weekend.

Re: Changes v paper baggers
We only lost by 6 points against very good opposition. Yes, some players had bad games, but they have enough points in the bank from the first 4 rounds to have another go. Changes should be minimal.
Out: Caminiti (suspended), Byrnes (omitted)
In: Membrey, Steele
Membrey will need to play tall.
Campbell will only come in if Marshall is injured.
Bytel or Byrnes play as the sub.
Byrnes did some good things but his disposals were panicked and not enough polish. He wasn't the only one, but to me he stood out.
