Unfortunately Paton can’t be trusted with ball in hand.
It’s a shame Connelly hasn’t come on as he’s got speed and is dual sided.
Agree, but the defence were under huge pressure last night. He strikes me as a player who is a complete 'stress head' and doesnt play with a clear mind.

He takes way too long to make decisions and second guesses himself which causes the pressure on his kicks and handballs.

He sometimes looks like a startled deer in the headlights, if he can get that out of his game he has the tools to make it. If he can sharpen that part of his game by moving to give himself time, Im sure he will be fine.

What do you think the coaches want to see Leo work on?

Is it just his production? I see they are giving him a run in the middle lately in the VFL and he's been OK without setting the world on fire. Been pretty good at clearance but not winning enough away from stoppage from what I've seen watching VFL

From memory, Jack didn’t do a lot, so perhaps that counts for Ben.
13 touches, 2 contested possessions, 1 goal. Don't know what his usual output is.
Ok so not too bad, I remember him fluffing a couple of kicks out on the full.

Agree.
Saw him close up in the clinches and he did not seem panicked at all. Tough and focused.
May try to look for the perfect target too long on occasions but that's better than some that simply kicked it straight to a pie just to pass the parcel.
Good intentions and following instructions, maybe.
The defence was under a lot of stress. Could not accept the poor rating.

Was there at the game and was thinking that he was playing well considering the pressure the backs were under.

Paton is part of the best defensive unit in the competition. He's behind Webster, but with so many injuries he's a decent replacement. Guys like Coffield and Highmore play a slightly different roles, and I feel that Paton has good endurance running ability, a key ingredient in Lyon's game plan.

Admittedly this wasn't his best game and his kicking was not great, but he probably had the best of his direct opponent. Saints wend close to a good win, and I reckon we feel short not getting the ball into our forward line effectively, not because of our back 6 defensive unit.
some sanity thank you

This is on the money. You don't mess with it.

Jimmy Webster is a much better footballer than Paton.

They are different footballers, Paton regularly puts himself in the right defensive positions, Jimmy attacks the ball, with a defender in mind.

I’ve been keen to see Leo take a step forward
He’s got Sinclair type skills some dash left and right sided
Feels like he’s been forgotten but I’m a fan

Paton still doesn't look the same as before the broken leg. He was one of our safest users of the footy and never got himself in trouble before. His role does seem to be evolving and I imagine his confidence isn't where it once was, given he's now in and out of the side after being a starting 18 lock before the break.

I think he still has the ability to play 150+ games of footy for us but he'll have to be in top form to hold a spot now that Stocker is locked in the 22 and Webster and Coffield should be back for the second half of the season.

I remember some VFL games before the leg break year, where his game sense and kicking was better than Coffield. Unfortunately, the leg break was bad timing as I thought it would have been his break out year. Now he’s just a backup until Webster / Coffield come back.
