Crowd this weekend
The crowds for all games this weekend are expected to be phenomenal. 2-3 games already sold out. Our game expected to be sold out in next 36hrs.
My question. It’s our home game. How do they divvy up gate receipts when there’s a double header? Do we get any gate receipts?
A little bit annoying as this game would have been our biggest money spinner for the club this year. I’d expect some sort of compensation from the league. Does anyone know how it works

Re: Crowd this weekend
No it wouldn't have been our biggest money spinner that was round 3. It is a sell out because it is a double header which will always bring in bigger crowds. This is particularly true for people traveling to Adelaide for the somewhat silly named Gather Round. Being a double header means there are four sides wanting a cut of the revenues.
It is also a Collingwood home game not ours.

It’s our home game, decided by the toss of a coin. But that won’t affect the revenue.SinCitySainter wrote: ↑Tue 11 Apr 2023 9:36pm No it wouldn't have been our biggest money spinner that was round 3. Re: Crowd this weekend
Poor Gill, Albo will be confused as there won't be a crossbar between the big posts, and how can you get 6 points when you score a goal, goals are only worth 2 points, now a touch down that's worth more 4 points.mr six o'clock wrote: ↑Wed 12 Apr 2023 1:09am SA government has bankrolled the round .

Re: Crowd this weekend
This game will bite next week. We're the sixth game on the Adelaide Oval, in a period where 20mm+ of rain is expected.
Carlton play the first game on the Adelaide Oval, and have three days more rest than us.
Ridiculous fixturing in more ways than one.

SA government is paying every club 500,000 bucks and 200,000 for the players or so I read.

Re: Crowd this weekend
I was wondering about this too.
6th game in four days and double headers on Sat and Sunday and rain..
Maybe they will have track loads of ‘patch-up’ turf in case ..
Saints will have practice with the Moorabbin sprinklers again.
Pray for no ACL injuries. And hope the new young stars hold their feet.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

If you're not into sport in SA the only other weekend activity is evasion !
Evading the cops , the nuffies , the STD s or the serial killers .

Yeah, this is crap. 3 extra days will make a massive difference. Hopefully the oldies will take it in their stride.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Crowd this weekend
We still get a 7 day break.
Steele will be back.
If it was a 6 day break I'd consider it an issue but a non event.

Re: Crowd this weekend
If you look through the fixture , after the Carlton game we are on a FIVE day break playing PA. I think they have a 6 day break. Now that's cutting things fine. 5 days to get over 120 minutes of footy. Some players will be fine with a light week, but some will be a bit sire still. I don't like it.nostalgicsaint wrote: ↑Wed 12 Apr 2023 11:33pm We still get a 7 day break.

Re: Crowd this weekend
According to channel 7 news last night all clubs will receive $800,000 each from the AFL for gather round participation.
Re: Crowd this weekend
A personal lament is that St Kilda are not playing North Melbourne at Norwood Oval acknowledging Allan Killigrew who Coached all 3 Clubs and who had the reputation he had across football and life
Would have been a nice touch

Re: Crowd this weekend
Article in The Age today indicates $750k per club but $500k of that goes to the players and there’s an allowance to increase salary cap because of it. Wages are paid pro rata to whatever they normally get. Clubs get $250k which Is meant to be spent on soft cap.Saintmike65 wrote: ↑Thu 13 Apr 2023 8:09am According to channel 7 news last night all clubs will receive $800,000 each from the AFL for gather round participation.
I’d still prefer to be playing north or someone and cash in on the pies at home

40,000 Collingwood fans, 10,000 St Kilda fans.

2020 no crowd
2021 limited crowd 18k attendance
2022 home game 40k
2023 Adelaide
We’ve played them once only every year from 2012 to 2023.

Re: our 5 day break before playing Port
Didn't seem to bother Adelaide. They had a five day break and smashed Carlton
I reckon Carlton weren't focused.
They travelled on a flight to Adelaide with Carlton fans on board and had jack Silvagni and Anthony Koutoufides doing pre-fight gags or some crap like that
Plus...they got ahead of themselves after beating last year's wooden spooners

Re: Crowd this weekend
From a guy who had to move to SA through no fault of my own I love gather round. For the record I despise SA teams. I can go to the footy for $30. When I go to Melbourne it costs me $500 to $1000. I went to Swans v Tigers last night and the amount of Vics over here having a good time was awesome, I met about 10 Sainters in the crowd. At the casino bar I helped several people understand that a pint is the big glass (very important advice). The city is full of families wearing their colours. My kids and their mates are going to 4 matches, they never get to do that. Double header tomorrow and because Wet Toast and Cats are first I reckon they will help us dilute the Pies crowd. I'll be loud and proud.. go Sainters !
