Re: Ok experts how do we beat the pies
We keep with then till 3qrt time, our superior fitness should prevail.
I've got no doubt we are the fittest team in it.
We'll have ruck supremacy so we need to exploit that and rest Marshall forward when we can to stretch the Pies defence.
We can't bomb it into the F50 as DM will kill us.
Our defence should account for Pies forwards. Elliot needs to be held in check as he's a barometer of that forward line.
We need to keep our pressure up and run in waves as we have been. Collingwood were exposed on turnover by the Lions so that's the blueprint. Again our fitness is our ace in the hole here.
The Dacios boys are going to get it. It's about stemming the amount of damage they do. If every possession is with a Saints player breathing down their neck then hopefully stops their influence. Same goes for Pendles. Easier said than done.
Sidebottom. Is the one that always seems to grow an extra leg when he plays us, so need to keep him in mind.
Think we just have to trust the system in place and win or loose, so long as boys give the effort of the last few weeks, that's all we can ask.

Re: Ok experts how do we beat the pies
1) Higgo will get a lock and/or a knock. They will remind him of his concussion last year, and how poor he was after it
2) Gresh and Butts will have to play a doozy of a quarter each.
3) Sharman will take a towering mark. (in the reserves)
4) They would try to drag Wilkie out of the play. But how can you drag a guy like that out of it, when he knows how to read where the ball goes? Decoy? Fake zone? Wilkie will be the Wilkie Bar Kid as usual. (The Wilkie bar kid just can't do wrong)
5) they will try to provoke us - particularly Doogs - into giving away 50s.
Saints will pull a cat out of the hat..and win somehow.

Re: Ok experts how do we beat the pies
We hadn't won a game in Adelaide since 2011 ( under Ross Lyon) and then in 2020 we had back to back wins against both Port and the Crows
We've won the last 3 out of 4 at Adelaide Oval
We need to have a flawless preparation and our skills need to be equal to our first few games. It'll be wet weather so we need to practise in those conditions and prepare for a territory battle
I think we have to match them with contested footy and win the loose ground balls. Who ever does that wins.

Out play them and out score them.

Last time
Daicos & Daicos
Lipinski
De Goey
did the damage...
At least Lipinski is injured this time.
We had DMac, King, Hayes and can you believe, Kent last time.
All 18 of the 18 others will play
PLUS the big MIchito has arrived, Windy, Caminiti are here, and Mr Wood.

Re: Ok experts how do we beat the pies
The thing that has impressed me most in the first four games is that on each occasion the coaches have adapted the game plan to the way opposition teams play.
They will have the benefit of reviewing in detail how Brisbane went about defeating Collingwood last week and while the final result is never a foregone conclusion, I am confident that the players possess the skill and manpower to win on Sunday afternoon.
As Ross Lyon said after the win over the Suns, they have a system in place that is working well.
In his guest spot 'On the Couch' on Monday night Callum Wilkie several times referred to the players having "trademarked their values" as a group which suggests to me that they are all fiercely committed to playing their best - it has worked pretty good so far!
Really looking forward to this game as it will give us all a very good indication of the team's maturity against arguably the best team in the comp.

Re: Ok experts how do we beat the pies
I have an idea !
How about picking Tom Highmore this week!
Why my brilliant Shane?
Because he is keen and firing, and mostly because we will have an all-SA back line playing in front of their own - proving a point !
Highmore Howard Wilkie
Nas Battle Sincs
Hill Crouch Wood
Chik-O Membrey Butler
Higg-O Caminiti Gresh
Marshall Ross Crouch
Hunter C, Pou, Byrnes, Stocker
Sub Windy
Out : Cordy, Bytel,
In: Membrey, Highmore

Edit : Chiko I think it’s a cool and cute name - but I suspect it might be considered racist - why because it plausibly can be considered so - Not because Chiko rolls are considered ‘Asian’ except they will be very fast as we are always prone to posturing given half a chance

Re: Ok experts how do we beat the pies
Stocker did a very good job on Elliot last year playing for Carlton, so would give him that job..Windhager on Nick Daicos, Byrnes on Josh…Battle on Mihocek, Howard on Johnson, Wilkie on McStay, Paton on Bobby Hill.
Darcy Moore needs to be kept honest, Caminiti may have the huge role!
Odds in this game are ludicrous, we’re $2.80 & Collingwood $1.45…this game can go either way!!

Simple.
Restrict their scoring.
Kick more goals than they do

Intentional but low impact, minimum impact actually; recipients got up laughing and played on.
Mrs Crisp had harsh words and neighbours still giggling.
Will be sledged mercilessly for rest of career. By team mates.
Commentators now searching thesaurus for alliterations of crisp and desperate. "Crisp will be embarrassed by that, almost as much as the time he......"
Natural justice.

Re: Ok experts how do we beat the pies
The only issue with your plan here is, that Tom Highmore is from Canberra, not SA. He played 1 year in the SANFL, and was drafted from there. He only went there for better exposure, with the hope to get drafted. It worked.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Wed 12 Apr 2023 2:29pm

Either way, don’t put Highmore in. Don’t change the backline. It’s the best backline in the league. Don’t mess with it.

Yep, and to be honest..I tend to agree. Don't mess too much.
a) Tom had a pretty terrible game when he came in last year. It was a terrible game for the entire defence
b) the game will be a big test, our biggest yet
Whatever makes us competitive!!
I don't expect the small forwards to necessarily have big days
THanks for the setting the record straight - and sparing the personal stuff!
you play the ball!
