We were impressed with him on his debut last year.
Surely you're joking. Was one of the worst debuts I've ever seen. Kid literally didn't touch the ball. (maybe once or twice) and looked all at sea. Was played in the midfield against the pies and ran around like a headless chook. Fast forward 10 or so games and he literally looks like he could be anything. No way you could see that from his debut though
I always advice waiting to pass judgement after 7 games.
There is the odd exception even to your 7 game theory Vortex.
When gold was $700 Vortox said bah! at $1000, too early to invest; @ $1,500 I want 20 year trend figures before I even consider it.......
now: Owens may glitter but just wait, he can't be perfect each week, you'll see. Risk averse opinion I tell you, can't lose, stay inside, lock the doors (did that at the pub, the Mythical Arms, worked a treat, still have the mythical $10k. A man's word is his bond.

Some have a better grasp on the game than others and comprehend the state of things earlier
Some need much larger sample sizes
Unfortunately for them they yearn for a loss to chest beat the old “I told you so” but have their bases covered with the old “so glad to be wrong “
