Windhager’s Goal

Post: # 2001819Post aussie sainter »

I reckon this has slipped under the radar a bit. Young Windhager won’t show up in any votes or awards this week but I reckon the lead up to his set shot at goal after a mark inside 50 should be recognised. He ran unopposed (opponent maybe Matt Rowell? Nowhere to be seen at least 100 metres to take that grab then calmly convert. It was true Robert Harvey like❤️❤️❤️

He’s an excellent kick for goal

Should be a standard thing for all our players ..slot a goal from anywhere . The thing is we haven't done that for years but the kids have turned that around .

It was Ben Long who couldn’t run with him

The Foxtel bobble heads called it at the time.
They said Windy was a bit behind the other guy, but he just busted his ring to overtake the Sun guy, to get to the drop of the ball.
It was strange seeing it on TV, like the Sun didn't think Windy would take the mark? And the Sun guy might've expected the ball to spill free so he could run onto it.
Anyway, the teenager showed pure hunger

I highlighted this in the match thread as being the difference between St Kilday 2023 and the sum Club over the previous decade. Windy read the play well, sprinted down the guts, ran past a jogging Ben Long to offer the lead then skidded on his knees to take the mark. He walked back calmly then slotted the goal. All this from a second year player who is showing us the way you make it to the top in AFL football.

Absolutely outstanding.

Wasn’t a great look by Ben Long. There were other instances as well were he did not do the team thing.

Yeah the kid is an excellent shot on goal, lets hope it continues! Its nice to finally have confidence watching our players in front of goals. Hopefully RTB will address the check side shots when playing with a wet ball in heavy conditions. 70% of kicks the ball doesnt leave the foot well and doesnt curl like it does on a dry day.

Poor b######, bailed out just a bit too soon. Felt a bit sorry for him. But not a Saint any more so suffer cyril.

Not "Simon Templar". He was here first. Please change my username to Bumstead and if possible make me one of those very large sandwiches, thanks!
