Mason Wood Is Not Fit
Mason Wood is in superlative form. I can understand he’s regarded as an essential part of our best 22.
He was a good contributor on Saturday night but it’s readily apparent his shoulder injury is troubling him.
I was watching him closely and he frequently grimaced with pain.
He and the coaches have decided he will continue playing through the injury.
And with our current injury count we are facing desperate times.
But I am never comfortable nor do I think it is a good precedent to continue selecting a player who is injured, irrespective of how good he is.

Noticed this too.
Think it could be a case of you'll need surgery but the question is when.
Not sure if he plays against the pies if it is wet/boggy

I worried too...but at 95%+ ground time, only Wilkie and Howard had more time on the ground!
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Obviously needs surgery but that'll put him out for the season , A week off would help but as the cupboard is bare he unfortunately has to play with pain .

I'm not saying it isn't sore but don't agree with this.mr six o'clock wrote: ↑Mon 10 Apr 2023 4:31pm Obviously needs surgery but that'll put him out for the season , A week off would help but as the cupboard is bare he unfortunately has to play with pain .
If it structurally sound like we're told it is then what's the surgery for?
It probably just needs time to heal which is going to be hard while he plays

Re: Mason Wood Is Not Fit
I think if it needed surgery the club would do that as it has with Steele and Billings.
They must think he can play with it.

If he can raise his arm up over his head, he doesn't need surgery.
I've got a frozen shoulder which is slowly healing, my guess is that it was badly bruised and so there will be some lingering soreness.

He'd be structurally sound but would have torn muscle and tendon , this forms scar tissue that causes pain .
Surgery to remove this would put him out of action for 3 months . Effectively ending his year .

I don't believe the club would be risking him, if there was a chance he could hurt it further. Sometimes you just need to play through pain. And some are better at that than others.

Frozen shoulder - get it hydro dilatated.Bruce G McAbee wrote: ↑Mon 10 Apr 2023 6:06pm If he can raise his arm up over his head, he doesn't need surgery.

Both my shoulder operations ended in frozen shoulders, that is where hydro dilation comes in to soften and expand the shoulder capsule.
I still have 1 screw in my right shoulder and 9 screws and a metal plate in the left.
I never got back the full range of motion in either shoulder but they are both adequate.
Both from separate skiing accidents not football.

Re: Mason Wood Is Not Fit
I'm not sure what the purpose of this thread? No doubt Wood is sore, hardly a big secret. He took a huge knock and had to go off in the bombers game and it was reported as an AC joint issue, so yeah, he'd be sore. He got the injury assessed during the week and in consultation with some of the very best doctors going around, has agreed to play on. And he was great again last Saturday collecting 24 possessions and taking some more telling marks, more importantly having no difficulty in raising his arm over his head. So, what's the point of the thread? He's sore like a large % of AFL players every week. To say he's not fit implies he shouldn't be out there. Ridiculous. He's going great

Im sure his shoulder will improve with time, you can play through some AC injuries. They are sore but manageable.

Re: Mason Wood Is Not Fit
for discussion on an injured player i would say.
No one seems to know what the extent of Wood's injury is so the IP thought it was worth a thread. F*** knows if that makes it worthy.
The brethren will decide.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Re: Mason Wood Is Not Fit
Seems curious that they didn’t rest him last week. With games against Collingwood, Carlton and Port… GC at home would have been the time to do it.
Guess there’s no major benefit from resting this type of injury

Re: Mason Wood Is Not Fit
My contribution to the thread was that Mason Wood spent 95% of the game time on the ground. Very high. Only Wilkie 100 and Howard 97/8 spent more time on the field.
Surely that suggests the coaches felt he is fit enough doesn’t need any nursing.
Especially given they rested Marshall.
