Vs Pies
Given it is likely to be a bog and stoppage heavy this week could be the week to go a little taller. Especially in light of the pies ruck issues.
Reckon we move one of Cordy or Windhager to the Sub this week and we bring in Campbell.
Stocker Howard Wilkie
Milera Battle Sinclair
Wood Ross Byrnes
Gresham Owens Hill
Hammer Marshall Butler
Campbell
Crouch
Clark
Cordy, Higgins, Paton, Phillipou
Sub: Windhager
Cordy or Campbell to be subbed for Windhager when we need more run.

Re: Vs Pies
We need more run, not less, particular against the Pies. The only way Campbell comes in is to directly replace Marshall which I hope never happens. I can’t see that happening under the current set up.
Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.

Re: Vs Pies
In a bog first use is a massive advantage.
Someone has to be sub and it seems none of our smalls put their hand up in the VFL.
Campbell will give first use and work his ass off knowing he is likely to be the one subbed out.

Re: Vs Pies
Pies gave away a lot of turnover goals against the Lions.
St Kilda is good at converting turnovers into goals.
Pies will try and have less turnovers given the Lions game.
St Kilda is no. 1 in the comp for marks. So, the wet advantages Pies as marks will be hard to take.
It's looking like a real advantage game for the Pies.
Pies have won it's recent Adelaide games with a margin of 1 goal or less. Funnily, they haven't played Port in Adelaide there in ages... talk about a preferential treatment.
So, it's going to be a nail biter right down to the last minute I think.

Re: Vs Pies
I like the idea of 2 rucks to stretch them - that’s where they’re weak right now
Marshall goes forward helps force contest
Cordy out
Campbell in for mine
Their forwards aren’t tall
Lose no run

Re: Vs Pies
Campbell comes in once we’ve hit the emergency button. Otherwise let’s not outsmart ourselves. Marshall is going great and cordy is a competent aggressive back up. Just play our game and we’ll be fine

Re: Vs Pies
Not neccessarily, forecast is 17 and rain for that day, but 18 and rain the previous day
Also the ground will have seen 5 games over the previous 4 days before ours (including 2 the day before and 1 earlier that same day) so if the surface can handle that it'll be a miracle.

Re: Vs Pies
Collingwood played in slippery conditions last week. The humidity means it may as well be wet weather in Brisbane
They'll be better prepared than us. They also would have gained a lot from their encounter with Brisbane.
I don't think we have a guy like the Big O who can do a Clark Keating and punch the ball 10-20 m clear of the congestion
Marshall may not be able to do that. We need to bring our best ground ball winners into each contest.
At least 3-4 at a time. Gresham, Owens, Pou, Clark, Windy, Byrnes and the regulars in Ross and Crouch (as well as Rowan himself)
Our coaches would have also learnt what works and what doesn't against Collingwood's second and third string ruck stocks
Rowan will have had 7 full days rest for recovery. If he's not carrying any niggles, I'd just have him and Cordy/Owens as per previous games

I left out Sinclair. It was nice to see him starting at centre bouncesScollop wrote: ↑Mon 10 Apr 2023 1:29am Collingwood played in slippery conditions last week. The humidity means it may as well be wet weather in Brisbane

I think we need to prepare to battle Adams, Mitchell and De Goey and win those ground balls

Re: Vs Pies
In preparing for the Saints, the Pies will watch the undermanned and midget Hawthorn forward line today and the way Hawthorn are forced to short-pass their way forward, trying to prevent Geelong from getting a hold of them.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Re: Vs Pies
It will NOT be the ruck contest that wins this game - nor the clearances
It will be the scores from Turnovers
If we can make best use of their attacking mindset and get them on the rebound we will win - if not they will overrun us.

You have to take advantage of the ruck situationSainter_Dad wrote: ↑Mon 10 Apr 2023 11:23am It will NOT be the ruck contest that wins this game - nor the clearances

It’s not just centre clearance (though these going forward would be nice)
Marshall can then rest forward that stretches Moore and co and brings our small/medium sized into the game
Eg Caminiti all of a sudden gets a lesser defender…
Lions did it well

Re: Vs Pies
Tony74 hinted that Iasac Keeler may be close.
He's a Adelaide boy, and I believe ruck/forward. Perhaps a good chance to debut against a weak ruck, and further exploit Pies weakness.
