Concussion No. 10 for Paddy - please no more!

Post: # 2001237Post Ghost Like »

Paddy Mc received an extremely innocuous head knock but the resulting scenes were extremely distressing to watch. He must be stopped from playing for the sake of himself, his family & loved ones.

Yes, I think you are right. We all saw it. His head barely touched the ground. No doubt some doctors will say he's fine. He's not. Next time he could be dead. If the club doesn't act, the AFL must.

I would not be surprised if the concussion happened as he fell and hit the Power players rump.

LOL - the Swans will get a Compo pick if the AFL steps in!

It looked innocous in play. Unfortunately, it appeared like he wasn't knocked out but still concious. From my experience, the equivalent of a boxer's glass jaw.

As much as I am sorrowful for Paddy I am pleased St Kilda recognised it had a duty of care and delisted him. It is now 7 years since his concussions were revealed as a serious issue and I hope he ways things up and gives the game away.

Saints should have been given compo for doing the right thing and taking him away from risk.

I would add that everyone on the planet including my cat and pet hamster knew we should have drafted Petracca.

Both McCartins were concussed in the Swans v Power game.

I expect both of them to be playing again soon.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Yeah from the first mentions of it I thought it must have been an ugly hit, but watching the vision it looked like barely anything!

Surely can’t go on.

A female trainer on the bench near him, looked like she'd been crying. Her eyes were red

The Swans should lose a first round draft pick after St Kilda did the right thing, surrendered a No 1 draft pick and delisted him against his will.
The Swans have brought the AFL into disrepute by playing him while knowing how vulnerable he is.

If a player does not do enough to protect another player from concussion Michael Christian lays charges.
Sydney FC did nothing to protect McCartin neither did the AFL.
Christian should show some courage and charge both Sydney FC and the AFL, sending them both direct to the tribunal.

Looked to me like he got an accidental kick to the head from the Port player running past close to the boundary line.

Why isn't he wearing a helmet?

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

After watching yesterday's incident, I do not think a helmet will help or would have helped.

He would need this helmet:

Why is he allowed to play.

Sydney FC and the AFL are fully aware of the dangers of concussion.
They have no excuse for allowing a player known to be at serious risk to play.

I would doubt that he could sign away an absolute right to protection in the workplace - that is a slippery slope

Imagine someone with epilepsy signing away their rights to become a long distance truck driver etc

WorkSafe still assigns a certain amount of liability to the employer IIRC

You are 100% correct. There is a element of voluntary assumption of risk( volenti non fit injuria) playing any sport but Paddy would have the same rights as any other footballer. He was cleared to play, whether we like it or not.
