Saints and last three drafts

Post: # 1999522Post saynta »

From the hun.

ST KILDA

2020
National Pick 26: Matt Allison – 3.5
National Pick 45: Tom Highmore – 4.5

2021
Mid-Season Pick 7: Max Heath - 2
Mid-Season Pick 20: Cooper Sharman – 4.5
National Pick 11: Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera – 5.5
National Pick 33: Mitch Owens -5.5
National Pick 47: Marcus Windhager – 6.5
National Pick 51: Oscar Adams – 2.5
Category B Rookie: Jack Peris – 2
Category B Rookie: Josiah Kyle (Retired 2022)

2022
SSP: Jack Hayes – 4.5
National Pick 10: Mattaes Phillipou – 6
National Pick 31: James Van Es – 2.5
National Pick 35: Olli Hotton – 2
National Pick 44: Isaac Keeler – 2.5
Category B Rookie: Angus McLennan – 2
SSP: Anthony Caminiti – 3.5

The Saints have been able to address some list needs as well as add some X-Factor through the draft in recent years. Marcus Windghager looks like being a late draft gem after an impressive debut season and a massive summer on the track. He has a “great attitude and consistently looks to improve”. Fellow 2021 draftee Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera was also impressive last season and “can help change games” with his skills and speed. Last year’s top draftee, Mattaes Phillipou, has some “special attributes and qualities” which should see him make an “immediate impact” this year.

Clearly they don't rate Liam Stocker in the SSP along with Caminiti this season.

Out of curiosity, what did other “rated” draftees score?
Like a Nick Daicos, or a Cadman. Any other notable scores to give scale to what Pou’s 6 equates to.

Nick daicos would have to be the benchmark and logically a 10. Everyone else should be ranked against him

Those ratings make zero sense.

And how can you rate the 2022 draft in March 2023?

Let me just say that the selections of NWM and Mattaes Phillipou just fell into our lap. No recruiter should puff out his chest and say 'that was me'.

We haven't been gifted highly talented father/son picks like Collingwood, Bulldogs, and Geelong.

Our Academy picks from 2021 are the closet thing we've had to gifts since our priority picks in the early 2000s

Even if you get a pick between pick 7 and 15 you've still got to get it right. Remember when we picked up Coffield ahead of Naughton?

So we shouldn't find a way to make light of the NWM selection

When a few above them dont turn out as good, fingers will be pointed, especially with Phillipou. No recruiter will puff his chest out and say 'that was me'.
