Changes Rnd 3
Here is where things get interesting.
Steele is the only obvious change. Brynes was quiet Sat night but BOG in some eyes Rnd 1.
Paton I thought was very solid.
Options for Steele:
- Windy was the sub this week so he gets promoted
- Bytel was solid Rnd 1 and another like for like
- Webster -most credentialed of candidates but not like for like so will throw out the balance.
My guess:
- Windy in
- Bytel or Webster sub

Re: Changes Rnd 3
So few to choose from. A couple more injuries this week and we may have to throw in a youngster who's not quite ready

Re: Changes Rnd 3
It will be interesting to see who they go with if Bytel and Webster are both available.
The fact Paton trained on the wing over summer might provides some flexibility with trying to cover for Steele, not saying he plays in Steels position, but will they be tempted to bring Jimmy in ahead of Bytel who really doesn't seem ready for a permanent Steele type role. So do they look at rotating Paton and maybe Stocker through the middle.
Crazy times, who knows.

Re: Changes Rnd 3
Firstly Paton will not be dropped, filth have a few small forwards to watch
If fit Webster comes in and I would play Sinclair through the midfield
Mason Wood to play forward on Redman (make Redman accountable)
Therefore in Windy and Webster Out Steele and either Butler or Higgins (only 1 goal between them in 2 games)

Speaking of Higgo, how do you think he went?
Butlers chasing and running were impressive

8 touches, missed a fairly simple shot at goal, not doing enough for mine.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Mon 27 Mar 2023 12:18pm Speaking of Higgo, how do you think he went?

I don't think you can have Gresh, Higgins and Butler all in the same side, though injuries are probably not giving us much choice at the moment.
I'd be happy if Sharman was brought in for one of them, give us a better chance in the air.

Re: Changes Rnd 3
I think it's pretty straight forward. Windy takes Steele's role and Bytel comes in as the sub. Everyone else stays in the same position.
Although I would love to see them bombing to someone taller than Higgins 1.77m at the top of the square, but I think this not a personnel issue but a strategy/setup thing. Did anyone ever bomb it to Milne? Not sure why Higgins doesn't just stick to getting ground ball gets or if you want a mark, at least lead out to get space on his opponent.

Absolutely no chance of that happening.The_Dud wrote: ↑Mon 27 Mar 2023 12:33pm8 touches, missed a fairly simple shot at goal, not doing enough for mine.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Mon 27 Mar 2023 12:18pm Speaking of Higgo, how do you think he went?

Changes? At this stage we are lucky to fill the squad. I’d say windhager in and pick a sub out of whose left and hope like hell no one gets hurt

Re: Changes Rnd 3
You'd think the coaches won't want to move Sincs as he is too important to the way we play of half back, for that reason I'd be more inclined to think Paton might be the one that goes through the midddle a bit as crazy as that sounds but at least they trained a fair bit over the summer with Paton on a wing and Ross being systems man you'd think it's what he almost has planned for.terry smith rules wrote: ↑Mon 27 Mar 2023 12:07pm Firstly Paton will not be dropped, filth have a few small forwards to watch

So Webster to go back if he's fit, Paton on the Wing, and Stocker to possibly have bursts through the midfield also, Bytel probably but not sure he can be trusted to take on Steely's role...just my guess.
But crickey when Bytel comes back in Sheez he better make the most of his opportunity, the stage is set for him to do so...no pressure.

We have Bytel and Webster likely to be available for selection with Windy replacing Jack.

Re: Changes Rnd 3
Steele is out, Windhager comes in.
The only other change I would make is bring in Bytel as an extra mid rotation for Higgins.
I think we have one too many small forwards and would be better served with a HFF who is there to cycle through the midfield.
If Webster is available he comes in, Bytel goes to sub and Paton or Stocker become the extra midfield rotation.

Bytel needs to come in the 22 with Windhager..Webster plays if available with Higgins and Byrnes under scrutiny!

Jimmy can't possibly be fit. Broken hand, broken ear drum.
Bytel sub or Highmore if one of Butler/Higgins rested.

Re: Changes Rnd 3
He's got experience through the middle from his playing days at Carlton but as far as I'm aware he spent all of his time in the pre season training in the backline and not with the midfielders, (maybe one of the training watchers can confirm).
So if this is factually correct then Ross being Ross, I can't see him moving away from his coaching philosophy of playing the way you train, especially with the backline which is the most settled part of the team and closest to his dearest part of the game...defense.
I wonder though if he will roll through there in bursts if Jimmy comes up and Paton can come up to the wing which is where Paton trained partly over the pre season so that's why I can see Ross making that move ahead of others...it's been trained.
