Ross Lyon is a God
And hell has frozen over.
I thought version 1.0 was severely overrated and I know it’s early days but geeeeez you cannot argue anything other with how we’ve started 2023.
We look incredible.
We’re well polished, disciplined, resilient, playing kids, have a strong structure and the long shots that have been given chances have thrived.
10/10 and I can’t believe it

I think he is training them too hard or something and he could work on his youth development but he is going ok otherwise.

Re: Ross Lyon is a God
Freo's last goal in Rd 1 was at 7:11 minute mark the 3rd quarter.
Dog's last goal was at the 3:38 minute mark of the 3rd quarter.
That's two games in a row where we've held the opposition (both 2022 finalists) to virtually the entire 2nd half goalless.
Ross v2.0 is kicking goals with a side totally decimated with injuries.

Re: Ross Lyon is a God
the fact you thought Ross 1.0 was severely overrated is still a completely irrelevant point of view on the account of the fact that team could have succeeded without a coach.skeptic wrote: ↑Sat 25 Mar 2023 9:57pm And hell has frozen over.

He's not a God
But like Clarkson and seemingly 90+ % of successful coaches He's got a bit of R sole in him .
All of us liked Ratten but maybe he was too nice .
Good coaches need that ability to stare down and challenge their men at times .
Ross certainly has that quality.

Re: Ross Lyon is a God
This is what Ross does. Gets a group together and inspires personal and team belief. Offers no excuses. Gets every player to focus on a single-mindedness that doesn't even spare a thought for self-doubt.
Who else is better suited to coach a club so riddled with self-doubt and lack of belief?
Ironically, he's perfect for our 150th year for sheer fact he couldn't give a stuff about our mostly tragic 150 years. He just sees what's possible when you apply yourself with consistent effort.
I'll shut up now and enjoy my celebratory glass of port.
Love all you sainters, even the ones I totally disagree with!
Go Saints

The AFP once invited me to have a drink with Rodger Rogerson. I declined on the basis I didn't drink with arseholes.Vortex wrote: ↑Sat 25 Mar 2023 10:52pmI never shy away from a point of view...in fact if we were in the same pub tonight I recon I would give you the biggest of man hugs you radical beast.saynta wrote: ↑Sat 25 Mar 2023 10:47pmAfter your prediction that we would cop a hiding, I'm surprised to see you posting tonight.Vortex wrote: ↑Sat 25 Mar 2023 10:27pmthe fact you thought Ross 1.0 was severely overrated is still a completely irrelevant point of view on the account of the fact that team could have succeeded without a coach.skeptic wrote: ↑Sat 25 Mar 2023 9:57pm And hell has frozen over.

Re: Ross Lyon is a God
Gee that's a load of rubbish. He brought a game plan that at the time was revolutionary and we absolutely smashed teams. Took all year to work it out. Yeah we should have won the flag against a great Cats team but this nonsense that some perpetuate that the 2009 team could have coached itself is merely justification to minimise what Ross did back then. Sure we had superstars in our team but we also had some very okish footballers playing for us. I recall looking at the 2 teams GF morning and wondering how the hell do we win this game? Cats had stars literally on every line. We had Dawson, Raph Clarke, Blake, Eddy, even a cooked Luke Ball, McQualter and Clint Jones with an over the hill Stephen King. None of them I would consider likely to get a game in the Cats team that day.Vortex wrote: ↑Sat 25 Mar 2023 10:27pmthe fact you thought Ross 1.0 was severely overrated is still a completely irrelevant point of view on the account of the fact that team could have succeeded without a coach.skeptic wrote: ↑Sat 25 Mar 2023 9:57pm And hell has frozen over.

Re: Ross Lyon is a God
Well we will have to disagree.
My view is that you may have overrated the team he took over which while a good team, was not quite as good as GT had.
He then got that team into the GF in two seasons and in one season had the team dominating the competition like no St Kilda Team has even done before or since.
Even if you think the team was as good, (and I do not think it was) Lyon still had them reach a higher level than GT did.
Lyon Mark 1, was pretty damn good. Lyon Mark 2 looks to be better. He has learnt and improved.
Lyon Mark 2 also probably has started with a better list of assistant too.
But not he is not God. He is just a very good coach. Asa good coach he has been wise enough to want good assistants coaches, and also good support staff. Our whole football department has basically been turned over with Corey Enright being just about the last man standing left.
He wisely also knows that this is just Year 1 of turning our fortunes around. Our list still lacks top end-cream. If we keep rolling out games play like tonight, then good players are much more likely to be attracted to join us.
However more importantly it looks like we can at last actually develop and improve talent that joins the club.

Re: Ross Lyon is a God
This 100%. Coaching and mindset is the difference. Comp has never been more even. The idea that talent wins you flags ended after the Hawthorn three peat.
I honestly can't describe how frustrated I've been listening and hearing all this cop-out nonsense about our list. Been pulling my hair out. Crazy how willing people are to fall into a simple and comfortable narrative and just run with it.
Our list has some glaring holes in it. But it's capable of challenging. The idea that we should just drift along and have a "development year", whatever the hell that means, is such loser rubbish.
Should be doing everything we can to win a final, attract a quality free agent with our upward trajectory as a club and quality coaching staff. Then back Sos in to get a quality kid at pick twelve or whatever.
List cleanouts, rebuild, blah blah blah. They're completely not viable.
