Round One VFL : Southport vs Sandy
1) Who coaches the Sandy team and goes up there?
2) I assume the emergencies stay in Melbourne- all three of them, even though one is selected as the sub for the firsts.
PS will be interesting to see the positions they put Sharman, Highmore etc., presuming they don’t get picked for the firsts.

What do you expect with 14 injuries ?
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Re: Round One VFL : Southport vs Sandy
All members should call for a vote at the end of the season at the AGM to finish this unproductive alignment.
We need our own reserves team. This alignment is doing harm to our player development and isn't great for them either.
The only good thing about our current injury predicament is that our first- and second-year players aren't subject to football at that standard.

Is Oscar Adams off the ground or is he now wearing No. 28 ?

This is what happens when you don't have a dedicated reserves team.
I have been saying this for years.

Re: Round One VFL : Southport vs Sandy
Plucking players from other leagues to make up numbers wouldn't be good for team balance, bit hard to call out to your "teammate" if you don't even know his name.Banger9798 wrote: ↑Sat 25 Mar 2023 3:53pm

Those Saints players that are playing for Sandy are probably "bottom" 6 on the Saints list so they won't add much to the foreign legion.

Re: Round One VFL : Southport vs Sandy
If we had our own VFL team we would need to fund the 15 players on the VFL list through sponsorship and gate takings.
We could play at Moorabbin, which might solve the first problems and we could also take over the Dragons and turn them into the Kingston Kings or something like that.
I think when we all buy memberships and get our membership into the 80k range, beggars can become choosers.

Saints listed players:
J. Van Es (31), T. Highmore (34), O. Adams (28), C. Sharman (43), M. Heath (42) , L. Connolly (37)
Just the six! Sandringham are making up this numbers in the VFL this season!

Re: Round One VFL : Southport vs Sandy
Southport are a standalone VFL club and have a thriving Sports Club that supports them. They make, and cost, a fortune, to run. They have lost 6 games since coming to the comp. It's not impossible but it's expensive.
If you can't see that since we left Seaford we are trying to get into this position, then you should probably buy a membership and get on board with the effort.

Re: Round One VFL : Southport vs Sandy
totally, the 14 on the list though need to come back and prove they can improve both teams...therein lies the interesting space to watch for 2023

Re: Round One VFL : Southport vs Sandy
Could you see a situation where the club strengthens its ties with Sandy and invests more money and resources rather than throw the baby out with the bath water.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Sat 25 Mar 2023 3:51pmThis is what happens when you don't have a dedicated reserves team.
I have been saying this for years.
the
Covid stripped a significant amount of money and and resources out of the VFL and the Saints/Sandy consortium suffered more than most.
I just think if the club are looking to make the bayside "their" patch it possibly makes more sense to look at strengthening and consolidating current resources and relationships.
Geelong have done this well.
