I know you want to reflect the overall team nature of the win - but these votes are essentially participation awards

1 Byrnes
1 Battle
1 Marshall
1 Crouch
Loved the poo, Michito san, NWM and the Hammer
Special mention to the most courageous Taswegian in our backline for his excellent defensive efforts
Well done to Jack Bytel who virtually wore Andy Brayshaw's jumper in the last quarter and well done to Stocker for a really good first game for the Sainters

Re: Votes v Freo
You posted this fresh after the match.
As you saw with the coaches association votes, they disagree with you.
I have often posted that the highest possession getters aren't necessarily the most effective or the most influential as far as getting a win for their team
That's why I have criticised others in the past for voting for Seb Ross. I tend to value score involvements, metres gained, contested marks and goals as well as looking for important moments
Without breaking down his touches for this particular game, I think Crouch needs to reduce his turnovers.
You can't question Brad's work rate, but he wasn't alone in that respect against Freo

Re: Votes v Freo
It wasn’t so much his numbers but rather his presence through the game. It looked to me like he won a bit of hard ball in the packs, and dished it out to running players quite a bit.Scollop wrote: ↑Tue 21 Mar 2023 6:34pmYou posted this fresh after the match.

100% agree on your point with turnovers hence Crouch 23 of 30 possessions were handballs. Seemed to me that Crouch very much changed his style to play to his strengths and reduce the impact of his weaknesses.
4 turnovers for the match is not terrible - brings his DE to 80%
Adding to that more so…
Of the major mids including Steele, Sinclair and Byrnes, IMO Crouch was the only one that consistently presented all match and got from contest to contest.
Second equal most tackles as well and ahead of all the other mids behind Bytel obviously and equal with Clark.
Steele had 3, Sinclair and Byrnes = 1
It’s not just work rate… he was the most dominant and consistent for us. Didn’t go in and out

Re: Votes v Freo
Crouch was ineffective, or rather inconsequential in the second and third quarters
I disagree about Steele and Sinclair
I had Crouch in my votes for his ferocity and tackling and the run he provided
Crouch's work rate and his effort in that last quarter was brilliant, but that's his role. That's why he's one of the highest paid

Re: Votes v Freo
No they're not. They are far more realistic that the historical systems whether they be 3-2-1 or 5-4-3-2-1. I note you haven't given any votes. I would be interested to know who you would give 5 to and who you would give 1 to. That is, who you think was five times better than the fifth best. And infinitely better than the sixth best. I have moved away from the traditional scheme for that very reason. It so happened that this week was a very even team performance. A few players didn't contribute much or made egregious errors. They go no votes from me, even though they participated. They also didn't get any votes from anybody else that I can see. If I decide to give votes next week, and someone kicks ten goals, he'll get more than 1 vote.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Mon 20 Mar 2023 7:27pmWhat a complete waste of votes!!!!perfectionist wrote: ↑Mon 20 Mar 2023 2:29pm 1. I have been tallying the votes for 15 years - and I could probably count on 2 hands the number of times I have voted due to any perceived bias.
Your votes neither move someone up or down the tally count - so are effectively a donkey vote - call it what you like - but it does nothing for the vote.
But - I defend your right to vote that way - I just called it out as a participation award - happy for you to vote that way - but if everyone does it - we will have a tie for 1 - 14th and then another tie for 2 for second.

Re: Votes v Freo
Possessions are never totally ineffective
You win the footy - the opposition don’t have it
Even if you turn on over - the ball is 40-50 meters away from d50 from whence it came
This whole possessions are meaningless must come from non- footballers?
They are not everything, and obviously but they are important

Re: Votes v Freo
Possessions aren't everything but they are important...Duhhhhhh
Don't twist things BM
No one said 'possessions are meaningless'
I said, people need to look beyond stats when giving votes for BOG.
There were a lot of footballers voting for Norm Smith medals. They voted for Cyril for his impact, rather than his possession tally
Same with Dusty Martin and most of his career.
I went to footy wire to compare Dusty's career averages versus Crouch. They're very similar but I wouldn't be calling Brad a match winner

Re: Votes v Freo
In no way was Cyril Rioli a deserving NS Medallist
A travesty imo
Most overrated footballer in the history of the game
Not in the same league as Betts, Milne or Farmer!

Re: Votes v Freo
WOW, in the history of the game??? That's massive! And also ridiculous as it's an opinion of one, rightly not substantiated by fact or a peer.
If we had taken him instaed of McEvoy I am quite confident we would have at least 3 flags today. We would not have endured the stigma of Lovett and may just have adjusted some "sliding doors".

You said: "This whole possessions are meaningless must come from non- footballers?"
I didn't say I agreed with those who voted for Cyril, but it's just one example of 'footballers' voting for BOG where impact to game result is more important than possession tally
I agree with you regarding Betts, Milne and the Wiz
