RTB has it happening . Follow on from the practice match against the Dons ... reminiscent of 2009 when we smoked the opposition with the new defensive style . Long way to go but nice signs.

Very impressive. I gave us no chance. It wasn’t until 10min to go that I thought we might have been a chance.

I watched it on TV but I liked our structures. Our spreads forced the wide kicks out which forced the turnover effortlessly and then we transitioned surge football which is what Collingwood do. It was so nice to watch compared to chip mark contested chaos ball that Ratts was playing us which is so outdated and easy to play against. Our structures forced Freo to keep switching the ball or go through the middle which had us at an advantage on turnovers. The coaches game style is really nice to see and I’m excited for the rest of the year.

Stoked with the win but let’s be real
Our skill level and errors at times weren’t great and will see us burnt against top sides
Lots to do but RTB knows that

Based on tonight's result, I think we'd get thoroughly pantsed by:
Pies
Cats
Dees (of course)
Swans (maybe)

We'll beat Hawks, Roos, Suns (maybe), Injectors, Crows, WCE

A real Sainter will pledge allegiance to the ❤🤍🖤 and despise the Pies, the Blues, and the Injectors.

I think Dogs might be too good as well

It certainly WAS a great win against the odds!

The thing that really pleased me was that this performance most emphatically validated the Board's decision to hand the coaching reins to Ross Lyon.

And even though 'one swallow doesn't make a summer', surely this should lay to rest any anti-Lyon members/supporters who were so hyper-critical of Ratten's sacking.....

It very clearly demonstrated that Lyon CAN indeed coach, as he completely outmanoevered Justin Longmuir with his simple 'defensive zones' game plan to squash Freo's forward thrusts in a way that neither the Dockers on-field leaders nor Longmuir were able to counter.

In this respect it was a brilliant performance by Lyon and his assistants because 99% of the media experts gave St Kilda no chance to win! Nor did a hell of a lot of Saints supporters :D

I don't get to many games but I was there yesterday on the wing Level 3 and from that vantage point it was easy to see the zone defence at work. Something that's not so apparent with the smaller scope view of T.V. Many times Freo came out of defensive 50 and just had nowhere to go. So chip chip chip sideways. Hence they had so many more uncontested possessions and marks.

We really looked like we have a system and plan. Then when we got the ball back we moved it fast. It was a very different performance to what we've seen the past few years.

Also I'm interested in others take on our clean hands in close. Yep we butchered multiple kicks, but our pinballing the pill around in tight to find an outlet looked much improved to me.

We may lack skill, but we now have a game plan that isn't reliant on skill.

That made us unbelievably competitive yesterday. That's also going to give the players confidence, which will, in turn, boost their ability to execute basic skills.

Ross Lyon has made an enormous impact already. It's the first time I've watched St Kilda since 2011 have an easily identifiable game plan, one which promotes teamwork and collective accountability. It's a big departure from hoping our skilled players could win games off their own boot.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Confidence and belief builder for sure

The effort/workrate standard has been set for the rest of the year.

Bring that most weeks and we can make and impact Finals

Indeed, it was so refreshing to see the players, in a makeshift team with a lot of yougsters, combine so well in a fashion that was rarely displayed under Richardson and Ratten.

(Credit to Teflon who was relentless in his criticism last year of Ratten's non-existent game plan )

They showed that no matter how talented opposition teams, and despite the absence of some key players, Lyon & Co can design a game plan that is uncomplicated and get the points.

In another year or two as the young guns improve and mature, the sky's the limit and St Kilda will once again be regarded as 'relevant'!!

i think the skunks are the yardstick atm
when we play them..negate Elliot and Degoey and when pushing forward look for Darcy Moore and kick it anywhere else...we may then have a chance
