So, how many goals did we kick from frees?CURLY wrote: ↑Sun 19 Mar 2023 9:31pmThe_Dud wrote: ↑Sun 19 Mar 2023 9:25pmHow did Cordy kick his goal?CURLY wrote: ↑Sun 19 Mar 2023 9:22pm
It was a classic from the umpire when Pou marked then got barrelled and he awarded the free and we goaled from the square.
Five fFreo goals from frees
You claim you’re not a troll and should be taken seriously, then create a thread complaining about rules that don’t exist anymore and blatantly lie about how many goals we kicked from free kicks.
It’s laughable.
Just to easy really. You don’t take any notice of umpires apparently but comment about us being undisciplined after basically every free. Then pluck the one scoring shot from a free.
Wilkie and Steele both made school-boy errors by arguing with the umpire, pointing to the screen telling them to watch the replay.
Very poor from two leaders at the club, hopefully Ross has a word to them.

Love that Curly's umpires thread has hit the 2nd page. Shows that it's worthy, but in it's own thread. Onya Curls.

You are one of the loudest critics of CURLEY posting adverse comments on maggot decisions in the game threads.
At least have the decency to stay out of this thread.

Re: Umpiring taking the piss
The Gresham deliberate was a shocking call
The ball when kicked was travelling parallel to the boundary line then takes a a bad bounce which sends the ball slowly curling towards the boundary line - ump was just dying to pay it
Deliberate should be absolute clear deliberate - straight at the boundary line - like the Docker player (Clarke??) who blatantly tapped it straight over from a few meters out

Re: Umpiring taking the piss
The rule is not "deliberate".
It is "insufficient intent".
It's a stupid rule and needs to be scrapped immediately.
If we have to have it, then I'd rather see last kick paid between the arcs, and remove any trace of a "deliberate" or "insufficient intent" inside the 50m arcs.
There is skill and tactics in a dribble kick that gains 20+ metres and trickles out of bounds.

Re: Umpiring taking the piss
The worst "insufficient attempt" of keeping the ball in play are players under pressure with the ball who spin toward the boundary line acting as if they didn't know it was there
We hardly ever see a 50m paid in these instances
Yet a desperate kick under pressure along the boundary line which bounces at a 45 to 90 angle is seemingly worse

I liked the rule before they changed it. Every time it’s paid now it seems like a stinker and often when it’s not it seems like it blatantly should beLife Long Saint wrote: ↑Mon 20 Mar 2023 4:51pmThe rule is not "deliberate".

Re: Umpiring taking the piss
Gresham was running towards the boundary and had an opponent coming across his body. If he’d pulled it back towards the middle any more it would have been smothered.

Re: Umpiring taking the piss
Correct. Wrong call by the umpire. Gresham kicked the footy as hard as he could down the line and at least five metres away from the boundary line.
If the ball continued on its flight path it would have had to travel 70 metres to travel out of bounds but it unfortunately bounced and veered sharply towards the boundary
It wasn't a dribble kick like you see when a player is kicking for goal. It was kicked in the air and not along the ground
It did an off break and bounced end on end towards the boundary but hey...We have an oval ball in our game!!
The ball could have just as easily done a leg break and stayed in the field of play..which possibly would have been more to our advantage. He didn't deliberately try and get it out

Yep. Poor call by the umpires, they don't understand how to play the game.

When a ball does a leg break like that 15 meters away from the boundary line, it should be a throw in.

Re: Umpiring taking the piss
The 50m penalties were both extremely soft, as were the free & mark awarded prior.
Fremantle kicked 4.1 directly from free kicks / 50m penalties. We kicked 1 goal directly from a free and another from advantage.
Gresham's kick out of bounds was 100% deliberate, there wasn't a St Kilda player anywhere near it, but it gained us important territory and time to reset. He knew what he was doing, so did the umpire.
The worst decision of the night was a bizarre advantage paid to us despite the ball being in flight to a contest at the time.
Umpire 25 struggled, the other three were fine.

Re: Umpiring taking the piss
The Taberner free was not there, Wilkie was held at the same time just as much. Having paid that free, it should have been advantage and a goal to Fyfe. How many errors in one passage does a umpire want to make.
It’s ok to pay the Clark insufficient intent, but why did the initial decision of throw it in get reversed? And why wasn’t the young one paid later which would have given us a shot on goal?
The mark paid to aish is laughable and how another umpire didn’t overrule that is mind boggling.
They lost control of the game in the 2nd quarter and paying 50s for that type of dissent only makes it worse for them, whether they are instructed to or not.
