Re: Australia in India: Train Wreck?
2 for 80 odd, all out for 113.
Laughable.
And the worst bit was 3 of the wickets were good balls, the rest were just deplorable shots. Not great signs for our bowlers.
7 out playing some kind of sweep?!?

Re: Australia in India: Train Wreck?
Can someone explain to me why Murphy is bowling around the wicket to right handers? The big spinning black patch is outside the off stump not the leg stump.

Aussie Team meeting
OK Fellas. Don't despair now. We can re-group, win this series.
No, we can't. We can draw it at best.
Alright then. Anyone got any ideas? Warner?
Yeah.
How about you Marnus?
Alright.
Smithy?
Well..
OK..meeting over.
Seriously, what would you do now? What can you do?
Is this a coaching issue? the fella before Lehman was sacked after an Indian tour that wasn't as diabolical as this is looking.

Re: Australia in India: Train Wreck?
Was very hard to watch that senseless self destruction . No fighting spirit & no idea of how to play in these conditions . Game was lost yesterday when we let them back in the game but I wasn't surprised

Way to go India!
Suffer in ya jocks, Ausfailure!
Never cared for the Australian cricket team. Used barrack for the Windies as a lad back in the 80s until the early 90s. Sadly, cricket has become virtually unwatchable over the last 25 years.

Re: Australia in India: Train Wreck?
The pitches produced for Test cricket in India are not replicated anywhere else
India’s record in India is what it is (so these results the norm in India)
What Australia does focus on from here is to participate in the Test Cricket Championship match in the UK
And play India
Delivering the same result NZ delivered to India in the last Test Championship match
A comprehensive thrashing
And put that into context versus playing on what is served up in India as turf cricket pitches

Re: Australia in India: Train Wreck?
The pitch wasn't the problem, the Indian batsmen showed that.
Our batting method was, everyone could see that, apart from the 11 blokes in the middle it would seem.
The Indians probably couldn't believe their luck as they watched the Aussie batsmen continually attempt to sweep.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said the sweep was “not a very good option” for the tourists.
“Stepping out to the spinners was probably the safer option,” he added. “That is my view.”
The Indians apparently only attempted one sweep shot in their whole second innings.
So bloody obvious.

"How come the Indians batted OK", say the critics of the Aussie apologists.
"You can't blame the pitch"
"You picked one pacer and three twiddlers anyway"
Well, maybe it's like asking Stephen Baker to play on the ball. Nicky Winmar to play full-back. They'd kill it in a lower comp, but at this level, 1% defecit becomes 10%, 2% becomes 20%.
So those Aussie batters were just a fraction off ..
I say that's BS.
It was a clear decision to go attack, attack, attack, and sweep, sweep, sweep.
Attack = maybe OK
Sweep = disaster!! Variable bounce!! You gotta be kidding!!!
Disaster..Coach n Captain gotta answer..
Off with their heads.
Steven Smith new captain.
Pick Boland and Hazelwood or Stark plus two spinners
Let the part-time spinners augment the specialists.
Don't try to match India toe-to-toe player types.
That is falling into a trap

Re: Australia in India: Train Wreck?
The cheating Indians and their disgraceful pitch doctoring is f****** test cricket but this time it may bite them in the arse.

"The Indore deck did not look like an accident.
Much like the other two decks in the series it was green in the middle and dryer than desert sands at both ends – and cracking like a car window with a stone through it.
Match referee Chris Broad is likely to be scathing of it but dodgy deck cricket is nothing if not compelling to watch."

It is going to take some time for cricket as a sport to recover from this one.
The opening day of play in the Third Test between Australia turned into an unmitigated farce in Indore as Australia rolled India for just 109 in scenes of absolute carnage.

India won the toss and batted but at the drinks break after the first hour of play, the home side was already 5/45 down.
Cricket commentators around the world have been left absolutely seething at the conditions with the match showing signs it could all be over early on Day 3.
Former Aussie Test captain Michael Clarke joined the avalanche of outrage on Thursday morning, calling the pitch “crap”.
More spin than the halls of Parliament House.
More spin than the halls of Parliament House.
“What is this pitch we’re playing on,” he said on Sky Sports Radio.
“For me, it’s the puff and dust that’s being picked up from either the quicks or the spinners. It shows it’s only going to get worse. It’s like a Day 3 pitch on Day 1 in India.
“You don’t want to see that. India could have been bowled out for 70.”
He said Australia will struggle to chase down anything more than a target of 80 runs in its fourth innings if the deck continues to deteriorate as expected.
Mark Waugh said on Fox Cricket during the day’s play the pitch was “Not up to Test standard”.

“That was mayhem. The pitch is not up to Test standard. The ball going through the top within the first 20 minutes of the Test match. That’s not good enough,” Waugh said on Fox.
“If the ball is going through the top in the first 20 minutes of a Test match off the main part of the pitch, that’s going to show the pitch is not up to Test standard.
“That’s the main part of the pitch on middle stump. That’s just not a pitch up to Test standard. That’s not good enough. It doesn’t matter how good a player you are, you’re going to need to get luck.”
Waugh said the farcical thing about the pitch prepared in Indore is that it is so radical it doesn’t help India.
“That surface does not favour India because it’s just luck involved. India are dominant on a pitch like we saw in the first two Tests. Where it suits the spinners, but as a batsman you can play on it.”
Matthew Hayden was even more scathing.
“This is why I’ve got a problem with these conditions. There’s no way in the world that a spin bowler should come on in the sixth over,” Hayden said on Fox Cricket.
“4.8 degrees, that’s massive turn. That’s the sort of turn you’d expect day three. You’ve got to give batters a chance … Day one, day two should be about batting.”
Former Indian quick Ajit Agarkar called it a “spin bowler’s paradise”.

But Hayden said “it shouldn’t be keeping low and turning a mile on day one”.
“Forget the result, don’t worry about if Australia win or lose or India win or lose, it shouldn’t be like that in Test match cricket,” he added.
Earlier, Hayden had said it was already looking like a “day three-type wicket” on day one with big cracks already opening up.
Although Hayden conceded it was “entertaining cricket”, the pitch looked much older than a pitch just over an hour into a Test match.
“My point is that the Test should not be moving along this quickly,” Hayden said.
“You’re allowed to have a four, five day Test match. Otherwise call it what it is and we’ll just play three-dayers.
“The game moving at this pace, you feel sorry for the fans who try and work out what their tickets are going to be on day four.”
And cricket fans from both nations were less than thrilled by the conditions.
Nine’s Tom Rehn posted: “I absolutely love low scoring test matches and think generally too much favours the batters. But taking alliances out of it, this test pitch is beyond embarrassing. A match designed to last 5 days will be lucky to last 2.”

Former Aussie spinner Brad Hogg joked: “One day test match anyone?”
Sports editor at India’s ABP News GS Vivek wrote: “What are the chances that this pitch too will be rated “average” by the #ICC match referee? Who will compensate if Indore and it’s curator losing their reputation catering to patriotic sentiments of a turning track.”
ABC Sport’s Akash Fotedar tweeted: “I’m all for turning pitches, different conditions around the world etc. Nothing wrong with the pitches in the first two Test matches, but right now the pitch in Indore seems like a lottery. That’s not good.”
Deputy editor at India Today Rahul Rawat commented: “It’s a dust bowl in Indore, the cleanest city in the country. Ball’s already turning square and it’s been just one hour into the match.”
Indian journalist Karan Sethi added: “Test cricket in India is the reason Test cricket is dying.”
The reaction from around the world became angrier and more incredulous as India imploded.
‘Test cricket is dying’: True cost of Indian farce
Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar says the conditions have “made a mockery of Test cricket”.
“The pitch makes all the difference if you want to watch good cricket. You must have wickets with even bounce so that both batters and bowlers get equal opportunity. If the ball turns from day one and first session itself and that too with uneven bounce, it makes a mockery of Test cricket,” Vengsarkar told PTI, according to india.com.
‘Ridiculous’: Unforgivable act stuns cricket
“It is important to get crowds back for Test cricket. You see that in England and Australia but unfortunately it is not happening in India. People will come back to Test cricket only if it is interesting. Nobody wants to see bowlers dominating the batters from first session itself.”
He was not the only one."

Re: Australia in India: Train Wreck?
Meanwhile in the real world NZ and England played a ripper series on fair pitches with NZ winning second test by 1 run after following on. Great test cricket. Good to see the basin ground again, remember Saints open day there after the Swans match in that ill fated NZ experiment.
India should be embarrassed but all I could see was their players getting salty as things went against them. And don't mention that Indian ump - could be incompetent, but sure makes convenient mistakes for the home side.
So hope our boys put it up them. Nice work by that former Pakistani man from Qld.

Yes everyone agrees it would be great if the pitch was better (though I much rather something like this than a lifeless road, the batters are fighting and there is tension every ball), but also lets not forget, glass houses and all...
And Yorkeys yes that was a great match over in NZ, nicely reinforcing the dangers of enforcing the follow on!

Re: Australia in India: Train Wreck?
Are you referring to me Stinger? Cheaters and liars are the worst, aren't they?
Just a note, 14 wickets fell yesterday in India, 15 wickets fell on the first day in Brisbane.
All posters are equal, but some posters are more equal than others.
Re: Australia in India: Train Wreck?
The preparation of the Brisbane pitch was impacted by weather - hence an old fashioned green top
And, with South Africa and their pace attack, it hardly favoured Australia
So no comparison with India at all
I note the Indians are now murmuring about a Seamer’s deck for the 4th match
Noting the absence of Cummins and Hazelwood which has no doubt influenced them

When we do it it's out of our control, 100% innocent, we had no choice! When the oppostion do it it's 100% sanctioned cheating! Love it.
Back to the cricket, need to eek out a lead of 100+, will (in theory) be hard to beat from there

I think the truth lies in the uncomfortable crack between the two.
I was quick to point out the latter..as the Brisbane pitch was green and it was and often is a catastrophe for the visitors up there on the first day- as was Perth a deadly drag strip in the old WACA on the first day of the second test n the old schedule.
But this seems comical. Batters if the calibre of Labu was made to look silly - like a primary school cricketer trying to keep out those grabbers.
First day?
But I agree with Dud. Nothing could be worse than a flat perfect track - horrible, dull.
This maybe how test cricket lives on. In these dubious circumstances? It’s entertaining let’s admit that. I am fascinated to see what transpired today, as the Aussies could roll over for 15 more runs in 30 minutes of sweep madness, or settle down and make 400+
Looking forward to todays play!!
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Re: Australia in India: Train Wreck?
I much prefer the opinions of former cricketing greats than that of some internet keyboard warrior with an agenda.

Re: Australia in India: Train Wreck?
“142 overs and not even lasting 2 days and they have the audacity to lecture on what kind of pitches are needed. Had it happened in India, it would have been labelled end of test cricket, ruining test cricket and what not. The hypocrisy is mind-boggling,” - former cricketing great, Virender Sehwag
