Re: Stocker Signed - Up on club website
Speaking as a mentally challenged case myself, I think the thing for Stocker is primarily mental. He’s got the ticker and the and the skill.
The place he might be in leads to the rest- such as perceptions of poor fitness, can’t run out Gaines, weight, player relations, sketchy media moments etc.,
Once you are a little off centre you might be vulnerable to a whole bunch of things.
And with them come more issues that pile on in a vicious circle and there is no shortage of gutter snipery waiting to shoot you down.
To get to where we had is a fantastic achievement and something few could manage and I mean mentally.
I hope for all our sake, he makes it and shines at St Kilda. The Saints have obviously taken a calculated risk and someone - maybe Ross himself - thinks he’s a goer.
Fair enough.

Glad to see him join the club he supports and hoping he does really well.
Just hope he doesn't end up playing 20 games in three years and running out for Hampton Rovers.

He loves Lenny, so if he has it in him , Lenny will get it out of him.

Re: Stocker Signed - Up on club website
What i noticed watching him at training since he came to the Saints is the amount of running he does, especially pre the Xmas break.
It seems the fitness guys set him a program to improve his running ability, time will tell how effective that extra effort has been.
He has made it onto the list so clearly he has been meeting targets well in advance of the SSP end date.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Come across as a really impressive and intelligent guy. Wish him all the best at the Saints and life. I know how hard it can be to come from where he has mentally.

When I was younger, I had a bit of ability in a particular sport.
I never realised my potential because of outside factors, family, my own mental state, etc.
People who trained with me were full of praise for how hard I trained and were surprised I was only in C Grade while they were A and B Grade.
The mental thing was the kicker for me, it affected my preparation and recovery- I didn't do enough of either, and it had a big effect.
Oh well.

Re: Stocker Signed - Up on club website
I wish the young man all the very best. He knows what it takes and now knows it will take nothing less. The more players we have who can kick off both feet the better we will be.
What position he plays will be interesting. Even managed minutes in our midfield will work as a rotation and a change up. Can defend so has some strings to his bow.

I recon he's probably looking at pushing Billings out of his postion on the HFF, or at least thats what the club are hoping in preparation for the possible departure of Billings at seasons end.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Sat 21 Jan 2023 5:09pm I wish the young man all the very best. Great closing speed, ferrous tackler, decent foot skills . I don't know a lot about the kid & a highlight reel might only show his good points but it was impressive to me anyway . I hope he can have a positive impact when & if he plays thanks Firey

Re: Stocker Signed - Up on club website
Looks like Jack Bytel's slightly shorter twin. Fortunately on the Saints website he is in a Blues jumper so that helps tell them apart.

A change to Number 14 too
Another young lad is wearing 46 now at training - small winger/forward
Stocker was outstanding today off hb

Re: Stocker Signed - Up on club website
thanks for the report. Would the "young lad is wearing 46 now at training - small winger/forward" be Sam Latreille (NGA 2022, now at Sandringham, ex Dandenong Stingrays)? Alternatively, may be a current NGA.

Re: Stocker Signed - Up on club website
If I had to guess… I’d say his name is Archie Roberts? Or Robertson??
They seemed to be calling Arch or Robbo when he got the ball
Which he did quite a bit, very busy little fella… but very light and pretty short

Re: Stocker Signed - Up on club website
Thanks B.M. Google says this about AFL Academy member Archie Roberts (Sandringham Dragons)
"18/11/2005 | 182cm | Defender
Roberts is another rebounding defender who racks up plenty of possessions, and will potentially end up on the opposite flank to Philactides for Vic Metro in 2023. He has some filling out to do, but positions well behind the ball and is gutsy enough to intercept, before using his foot skills to swiftly set up attacks. He’s a force behind the ball."
Perhaps a 2023 St Kilda NGA and part of the St Kilda Academy.
Elsewhere, I read the 2022 AFL Victoria All Nations (multicultural) and Kickstart (Indigenous) development program included Kendyn Brown (St.Kilda NGA), Lucas Hornblower (St Kilda NGA), Nicky Robertson (St Kilda NGA), Phoenix Smith (St Kilda NGA), James Mikhael (St Kilda NGA). I suspect all are part of the St Kilda Academy for 2023. It will be interesting to see if any make Sandringham Dragons or Dandenong Stingrays squads for 2023.
