Re: NVM Contract
It's a pretty significant concern at this point. Especially since it seems like he's set to become a fixture at half back this season. Has to be a top priority

Re: NVM Contract
There are 2 things at play here…firstly, it was a legitimate home sick factor last year, particularly early on.
This maybe somewhat diluted with the recruiting of his cousin & good mate Isaac Keeler.
The second factor at play is, if he becomes a regular senior player that is also an important component in the way we play, which looks likely..this would increase his bargaining power for a better deal.
It would also improve his potential trade value to us!

Re: NVM Contract
Need to adopt a strategy of not recruiting players that are at risk of the go home factor.
Also hoping we didn't just recruit Issac to keep NAS happy, hopefully he was recruited on merit and needs.

If need be, interstate teams are moving in that direction, West Coast recently stated it was a strategy they are working.

Re: NVM Contract
A bit of over reaction IMO.
Who of significance have we lost in the last 22 years with the “go home” factor?
Cripps
Begley (not much chop anyway)
D Wakelin - or did we force the trade to get Hammil?
What guns/ good contributors have been recruited from interstate and played their full career.
Just for starters…
Rooey
Lenny
Kossi
Steele
Armitage
Hudgton
Im sure this list will grow exponentially with the good Saintsationlists contribution.

If he hasn’t signed by season start then it’s not a good sign. Still enjoy him why we have him and make crows/port pay big time for him

Re: NVM Contract
IF we were concerned about the go home factor, we wouldn't have recruited NWM in the first place. Nor Wilkie, or Phillipou.

Re: NVM Contract
I think it's perfectly acceptable to recruit Isaac to keep Nas happy. Why wouldn’t it be. We took Sinclair cause he was Billings bestie, looks like a solid strategy to me.Vortex wrote: ↑Fri 20 Jan 2023 9:35amIf need be, interstate teams are moving in that direction, West Coast recently stated it was a strategy they are working.

As long as there’s a certain football merit to it, I’m happy as well.CQ SAINT wrote: ↑Sat 21 Jan 2023 12:26pmI think it's perfectly acceptable to recruit Isaac to keep Nas happy. Why wouldn’t it be. Isaac was predicted in most phantom drafts to go earlier than he did and many had him in the calculations for us. If the mates fact have him a marginal edge over someone else… I’m ok with that

Re: NVM Contract
Resentment amongst teammates, strategy needs to be consistent around footy merit. If NWM is gone at seasons end and Isaac turns out to be a spud or leaves also then we've got it horribly wrong not once, but twice.CQ SAINT wrote: ↑Sat 21 Jan 2023 12:26pmI think it's perfectly acceptable to recruit Isaac to keep Nas happy. The worry about the retention of Nas certainty has grown legs.
Word is he is very happy at the saints and the quality of his training that I see reflects that.

Re: NVM Contract
So is Keeler. Wasn't your strategy, 2 years or they’re gone? Nas was better then half the team last year on draftee coin, this year they will be deciding if the 7th figure is a 1 or a 2.
3 for $1m or 5 for $2m. Not a decision to rush for either party. I have a feeling if we want Nas, we will need to go 5 years.

Re: NVM Contract
The 2 year strategy makes a lot of sense, especially for speculative long shot picks like Sharman. If a player like Sharman doesn't establish himself this year he should be cut and find a replacement. Better to have a higher turnover rate with those types of players than to keep for 3 to 5 years.CQ SAINT wrote: ↑Sat 21 Jan 2023 2:57pm So is Keeler. Wasn't your strategy, 2 years or their gone? A 5 year contract for anyone but an elite gun of the game is stupid especially a kid that hasn't reached 100 games, plain madness.

Re: NVM Contract
That's up to him and a South Australian club though isn't it. He is top 10 draft pick, he debuted in year 1, he will line up round 1, first 22 in his 2nd year.Vortex wrote: ↑Sat 21 Jan 2023 3:24pmThe 2 year strategy makes a lot of sense, especially for speculative long shot picks like Sharman. If it takes 100 games to decide, your list will get old and very s***, over a very long time.

He's shown he might be star of the game, a long way to go yet, let's see how his second year goes first. Too many kids before him have started well and faded quickly.CQ SAINT wrote: ↑Sat 21 Jan 2023 3:32pmThat's up to him and a South Australian club though isn't it. 100 games is the sweet spot if a 5 year deal is suitable. I'd be surprised and disturbed if Walsh offers 5 years
Walsh crippled Collingwood with his incompetent list management and wreckless long terms contracts

Gut feeling tells me the kid will take a conservative approach & sign for 2 years.Vortex wrote: ↑Sat 21 Jan 2023 3:55pmHe's shown he might be star of the game, a long way to go yet, let's see how his second year goes first.
