Re: Hayes now injured
Unfortunate news but he should be back by April - and its not his knee
Can't be certain how big our injury list is as it could be that Misson has taking it easy with some and bringing them back slowly to have everyone ready to go by Round 1
Probably wont take long for some of the more experienced players to come back up to speed
Let's not forget it's a long season

Re: Hayes now injured
I read somewhere that he has a poor running style. He tends to plod. May not be physically suited to lots of running.

Don’t know but I read that he landed awkwardly, went off and was in a moon boot

Re: Hayes now injured
Back ‘training’ by April..
To re-start conditioning after what is now as good as a one-year lay off. And he’s 26!
Time to start thinking in a world without Hayes.
At least we won’t have to worry that he’ll do a hammy..he’s done. Sausage has a fork in it.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Re: Hayes now injured
Two key forwards down. Obviously that’s less than ideal.
Ross will work something out structurally no doubt.
Maybe just put the biggest lug he can find down there to contest and bring it to ground. Maybe Membrey as a leading target and surround them with mobile types who can kick goals under pressure.
Bugger it. I guess the positive is that we will be forced to find other routes to goal rather than rely one King to kick us a winning score. Hayes will hurt structurally from what I’ve seen as he’s a good second ruck who can hold down a KP.
Maybe there’s chances for Heath, Sharman, Cordy.

It will be a defensive start for sure which will suit Lyon old style but less than ideal for surebigcarl wrote: ↑Mon 16 Jan 2023 10:11pm Two key forwards down. Obviously that’s less than ideal.

Re: Hayes now injured
Saints.com site says it’s a metatarsal break in left foot and he’s being operated on tomorrow to stabilize it.

Re: Hayes now injured
Options:
Sharman
Allison
Van Es
Cordy
Howard
I hope Sharman gets a go first, as a natural forward.
Play Wood and Owens up there too, for some marking options alongside Membrey.
Higgins and Gresham as smalls.

Re: Hayes now injured
Seems like a few of the players coming back from injury are picking up different injuries - perhaps being pushed too hard and other parts of the body are compensating for the old injury? Marshall is undoubtedly our most important player for season 2023. Campbell, Hayes and Keeler all with interrupted pre seasons means our ruck depth is even thinner. Heath is the only one in full training but he's still a rookie who just turned 20.

IF we have to break glass in emergency he’s there
Marshall thrives in the ruck gig solo so cross everything he goes ok injury wise
Read on BF some suggestions that there is a core group of senior players - Gresh, Battle etc who trained away from main group but who all moved really well….thinking was Misson taking a very cautious approach 50 odd days out from season as RTB does t like pre season collision injuries…
Who knows but hope that’s right… it means we might just being cautious

Re: Hayes now injured
Apart from his first game, Hayes didn't really show a lot up until his injury apart from having a bit of physical presence in contests, so it's not like we're losing a vital cog in the team. He will be a good utility player for us hopefully.

Re: Hayes now injured
Van Es ... is quick, tall, has a huge leap and is built.
Will probably take mark of the year at some stage.
Has he played as a forward or can he play as a forward?

This is a p**s take yeah?
His running style seems to have worked just fine over hundreds of football games and training sessions since he was a child.

Re: Hayes now injured
Hope he recovers soon, could only miss a couple of games even if he is out for ten weeks, but this situation gives Allison and Sharman a chance to show what they can do.

Re: Hayes now injured
I reckon Marshall will play forward for the first couple and Campbell will play ruck
Or Battle will go forward and Cordy will play CHB
