Running is key
If you have a great tank and/or quick, there’s a fair chance you’ll be a chance to get a game under the boss.
Running is a massive part of the pre season thus far, with emphasis on endurance and repeat 400 metre runs.
Our game will be based on run and spread, so the endurance beasts such as Wood, Windhager, Hill, Battle, Sharman, Butler etc. will be key.
Players with genuine leg speed will also be pivotal, don’t be surprised if young Peris gets an opportunity at some stage..lightening quick but also holds his own in the distance running, feisty & a brutal tackling machine for his size..Peris is one to watch!
I have a theory that a team in any sport can mirror the attitude and personality of the top line coaches.
Fair to say we were a fairly passive team under Ratts, I’m hoping we show a lot more intensity and fight under the boss.

Not sure on his endurance but he's got speed to burn.

What about possession, any work on trying to win the ball and maintain possession.

Re: Running is key
Getting hands on the ball- first use around packs and centre bounces is a big problem that needs to be solved. We just didn't get enough of the ball over four quarters last season. It's one thing having run and link up, but someone needs to get the pill first.

Re: Running is key
That was Cho's theory also
That's why Billy Longer was his choice for first ruck.
Around the ground and at throw ins recently, I think we break even in clearances. We might even have the advantage but at centre bounces we suck
With both Paddy Ryder and RoMa it was hit and miss the last 2 years. I don't think our centre square ruckwork and the mids planning around first use was up to standard
We need to either have a ruckman who can do the job at centre bounces or we need a policy of 'roving to the opposition ruckman'

Peris' best track event was the 400, therefore I'm sure he'd be knocking out some decent repeat 400's.Saintmike65 wrote: ↑Thu 12 Jan 2023 9:21am If you have a great tank and/or quick, there’s a fair chance you’ll be a chance to get a game under the boss.

If it were repeat 200's he'd kill it.

Re: Running is key
It will be interesting to see if we can cover the loss of Paddy, when he played we won, Steely said the midfielders were made better by hunting the ball off Paddy's hands. How many games did Paddy play in the second half of 2022?Scollop wrote: ↑Thu 12 Jan 2023 11:35amThat was Cho's theory also

He played 12 games in 2022. We won 6 and lost 6 so your statement is factually incorrect...by a long way

Re: Running is key
I only watch the stats with the sound turned down, I'm guessing 0 games, in that case Paddy was pretty crap really huh?
Steely's comments could have just been BS I suppose, players pump each others tires up a bit so that's probably all it was.
Sounds like we are well stocked for tap A grade tap ruckmen then?

One thing is certain if that’s the focus - we will not run 1 way..

Leo would definitely be in the mix, particularly with Sinclair spending more time in the midfield.Viscount Jeremiah wrote: ↑Thu 12 Jan 2023 9:40amDo you think Leo fits this category?Saintmike65 wrote: ↑Thu 12 Jan 2023 9:21am If you have a great tank and/or quick, there’s a fair chance you’ll be a chance to get a game under the boss.

Absolutely Mike, the club hasnt played with the same belief and attitiude since RTB first stint. Hopefully he can instill that back into the current group.Saintmike65 wrote: ↑Thu 12 Jan 2023 9:21am If you have a great tank and/or quick, there’s a fair chance you’ll be a chance to get a game under the boss.

Re: Running is key
Correct and longer term I think we’ll be better off especially if Heath Keely etc comes on
Paddy was a super player- shame we got the banged up version late…

Agree 100%…We need for Ro to really elevate his game, which he should do shouldering the main ruck duties.

Re: Running is key
Last year he averaged less than 50 when Paddy or Campbell played
Averaged 125 when they did not
Paddy was a great centre square tap ruckman
Maybe his total output was a bit overrated though
