State of Trevor Barker Beach Rd Oval
Went walking this morning & noted the ground surface is not up to scratch for VFL footy
Surface was bumpy, missing grass in lots of places, patchy with some new turf laid, goal square surface appalling, rock hard & dusty
Matches will begin in March?
Simply not good enough for VFL players, let alone elite AFL players

It's been in poor condition for a while, looks like a desert.st sandy wrote: ↑Tue 10 Jan 2023 1:34pm Went walking this morning & noted the ground surface is not up to scratch for VFL footy

Covid stripped a fair bit of money and resources away from the VFL which impacted St Kilda and Sandy more than lost clubs, do you know if the funding of budgets is still poor.

Re: State of Trevor Barker Beach Rd Oval
TBBO is no good for our seconds
It’s too small, can’t play the same way, runners have no room there is no space for transition and forwards have FA room
Only players who can get a kick at Sandy are inside Mids and half backs
They should move VFL games to Moorabbin or the odd one as a curtain raiser at. Marvel

Moorabbin has been heavily invested in, play the VFL games there.
From a Saints perspective it's a no brainer. Not sure what the Sandy faithful would think.

Re: State of Trevor Barker Beach Rd Oval
Thats concerning news and hopefully it is addressed before the surface causes injuries to players. I agree with the above TBBO is simply not suitable for players being asked to prepare to play on much bigger ovals. There is no point training certain game styles if the bloody oval is too small to play that way. Then you have the wind affect of an oval on the bayside, its just so amatuerish. Its the exact reason the AFL has demanded the Tasmanian project have an indoor stadium.
How many SANFL clubs play on sub standard ovals - zero!
Its simple all Sandringham games should be moved to Moorabin until the TBBO oval is resurfaced.

Some of the VFL ovals are really small
Coburg, Frankston and Sandringham
Port Melbourne is a good size and a couple are big - like Williamstown and Casey

And you forgot to add that we should also move our team to becoming a standalone reserves team.B.M wrote: ↑Fri 13 Jan 2023 12:03am TBBO is no good for our seconds

Our reserves should play at Moorabbin. That and we need to wear the RW&B guernsey.

What League will Sandringham play if the dont become St.Kilda reserves? Surely they can't stand alone.

The only good alliances are ones where the parent club has total control, like Hawthorn do with Box Hill and it's really just to keep the name alive.
We need to get complete control of whoever our reserves side is. Personally, I believe it should be St Kilda, playing at Moorabbin.
Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

We do now
All Sandy coaches are St K coaches
Casey alignment with Melbourne works well

Re: State of Trevor Barker Beach Rd Oval
We need to be in complete control...including the jumper and name.
At the very least, we should be Sandringham Saints and wear our St Kilda jumper in all home games.
Games and training should be at Moorabbin.
We are the only club that doesn't have this contol and optics.

Different situation - Casey was an AFL construct which came out of the old Springvale VFA side. They were repurposed to be an AFL reserves team.

We rebuilt their facilities. We aren't rebuilding Sandringhams.

Re: State of Trevor Barker Beach Rd Oval
Sorry, we assured some AFL investment in the City of Frankston so the Dolphins could use all the AFL funding upgrading their facilities over several years only to be run into crippling debt and be sacked by AFL Victoria and have their license removed.
Then we went and stimulated growth in Kingston and Frangers came back again.
Now we are stimulating Frankston again.

Re: State of Trevor Barker Beach Rd Oval
Springvale moving to Casey had nothing to do with the AFL
It was a decision by the club to relocate because their home ground Newcomen oval was not up to VFL standard and they wanted to tap into the growth corridor at the time.
They were aligned with StK at the time and were for another 5 years (2004-2008)
Problem with being stand alone
From around the midpoint of the season we generally have 8-10 injuries
23 senior players and 3 emergencies
That leaves us with 10-12 saints players
Where does the other dozen players come from and who plays them!

Re: State of Trevor Barker Beach Rd Oval
Springvale aligned with us in 2001 when the Victorian based AFL team's reserves sides entered the old VFA/new VFL. Our reserves played with them when Blighty coached us. They still called themselves the Scorpions. yes, but they moved to Casey Fields when our reserves played with them. They also played some of their games at Moorabbin too. I remember Roo playing his first senior game in the seconds with them in 2001 at Moorabbin.B.M wrote: ↑Mon 16 Jan 2023 11:12am Springvale moving to Casey had nothing to do with the AFL

They became Melbourne's VFL (reserves team) in 2009 and changed their nickname to the Demons in 2017. For copyright reasons I will post the link here: https://www.melbournefc.com.au/teams/ca ... ns/history
Anyway, my main point being that our current reserves set up is a worry as I would like to see us developing players like our rivals are doing. I can't answer some of your questions because I honestly don't know, but the issue needs to be addressed one way or another. I just think the whole setup is bushleague at the moment.

Yes we aligned in 2001 with Springvale
But it was 2004 when the relocated to Casey Fields which was the point.
2001 - they played at Monash Uni - Coach: Nicholson
2002 - played at Moorabbin - Coach: Sheldon
2003 - Newcommen Oval - Coach: G.Wright
2004 - Casey Fields - Coach: G.Fitzgerald

Re: State of Trevor Barker Beach Rd Oval
I know it was a bit of a financial black hole but geeez… the whole dump the AFL reserves and merge it with the VFL has absolutely stunk up the fun of footy in general.
A) we lost the curtain raiser which was a great reason to get to games early and afforded the opportunity more readily to watch the kids
B) Development has suffered for the have nots
C) Stunk up the VFL - used to be a great comp with those teams having their own proud history… now they’re all lesser than
I wish we could all just go back to the way things were. Fix this all up for good

Wasn't the seconds comp sacrificed to help finance interstate expansion? Now the Tassie black hole looms.
