I thought he played U18s in the SANFL and a couple of reserves games

Another great debuted at 18..

Gone at 26, way too soon.

By the time I got my jumper with #34 printed (wasn't sure who he was..Scallans Footy Cards) he was gone to Melb.

But SG had a lot of potential, apparently. Alas, it didn't come to be. We must be cool.

Ernie Sigley did a show from Pentridge?

Even at SANFL level??

He needs to earn a spot through performances in the seconds imo

He has done nothing at this point in time.
Yes he has played a handful of senior SANFL games
Happy to be proven wrong, however I do not believe that is accurate.

I believe he played 3 or 4 matches for the Eagles Reserves.

Are you confirming he played only reserves?

Bit worried about all this idolising over a draftee. Been here many times before. Not holding my breath. If he makes it, well and good, but a thread comparing him to the bont? Bugger me.

The title of this thread is ridiculous

Kid hasn’t played a senior game of footy, none of us have seen him play, and he’s just turned 18

Buddy White
Arryn BJ Siposs
Mattaus Bont Phillipou

I hope he ends up our greatest ever player, or even just an A Grader

And I’m glad we selected him

But I’ll hold my opinion on how great he’ll be - until I see him play

He played 8 matches in the U18s
And
3 matches in the SANFL reserves
And
Zero in the seniors

Hence
Yet to play a senior game

Good try though…. Come again..,

Need to manage his training load because of his age. Chances are he will push too hard and hurt himself or develop stress fractures or some other typical St.Kilderish thing.

Kid will be a gun. Absolute gun. 100% legit elite A grader.

Very soon.

Interestingly, you can't play AFL if you are 17.

NWM played Under 18's and SANFL ressies, appeared to be MILES off according tothe usual SS experts, had a great debut season and will kick on again this year.

I reckon he will debut fairly early, if he stays healthy and he will be one of the youngest to debut in a while.

You can definitely play at 17/18

Age is irrelevant

But he needs to earn a spot and show he can play well at senior level imo

NWM played 7 games in his debut season

But to be accurate
He played 4 senior SANFL games pre draft averaging 11 disposals

You get it wrong most times…

How did we beat Geelong last season with Seb Ross in the midfield and Ratten as coach again?

Better than idolising over a coach IMHFO.

Or idolising over the previous failed coach …that’s worse …

You have to turn 18 in the year you are drafted. So can't play in the AFL at 17.

With only 5 days to qualify, if he plays round one. He probably ends up the youngest to debut since the draft age rule comes in. Just a guess.
I doubt he will debut round 1 but he will debut this year.
He is going to shine in the VFL.

They must have changed the rules?

Brendon Goddard was drafted in 2002 as a 17yo

Didn’t turn 18 until May 2003 and played before his 18th Birthday

Luke Ball was the same in 2001 (April 2002 he turned 18) but did not play a game in 2002 as he concentrated on y12 in 2002.

2009. Was intended to encourage kids to focus on study rather than give it up for football.
