New Maximum(less) forward line ideas??
So what do you reckon?
Membrey-the-cruiser to 'return to port'?
Higgo a key forward?
Dougal to forward line?
What is your bet for a forward six?
The Butler Sharman Hayes
Higgo Members Highmore
(Hayes swaps with Holla)
(Triangle rotation : Higgo -bench, Gresh takes Higgo's spot, and a benched onballer takes Gresh's role)
Membrey-the-cruiser to 'return to port'?

Really depends how we deliver the ball in to the forward line.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Wed 07 Dec 2022 1:44pm So what do you reckon?

IMO under Ratts it would be...
Membrey Hayes Gresham
Butler Campbell Higgins
I think perhaps under Ross...
Gresh Sharman Billings
Higgins (Campbell/Hayes) Membrey
We were already a decent key forward short, now we are two down.
From adversity comes opportunity.
Backs
Webster Battle Wilkie
Sinclair Cordy Billings
Mids
Hill Windhager Wood
Marshall Steele Crouch
Forwards
Gresham Membrey Owens
Jones Howard Higgins
INT
Clark Ross NWM Byrnes Sharman
E: Campbell Butler Conolloy
* King, Hayes, Coffield, DMac, Paton

I completely forgot about Billings!
My gosh, he has gone into the back paddock of consciousness over the last few years.
BUt back in the day, 2016? - ish, I didn't see it, but from what I heard, he was handy as a half-forward flanker and had quite a few days out

Re: New Maximum(less) forward line ideas??
Whoever replaces him must have mobility, and we have to have three marking targets
For the first few rounds where Hayes will be absen, my preference would be
Membrey, Sharman, and Battle.
All have forward craft and Cordy can play Battle's key back role
The other possibility is to play Campbell as the main ruck and play Marshall at FF, with Sharman and Membrey.
One blessing might be that we become far more creative and less predictable forward of centre during King's absence

Re: New Maximum(less) forward line ideas??
Sharman for mine. If nothing else he will take their best defender which is a plus. Yes he isn’t the best but he will learn a lot and he is the best off a bad bunch. I wouldn’t put battle up forward as he has found his calling in the back half as does Howard
What this willl mean is that we will not have the long bomb as option 1 anymore which is a god send

Re: New Maximum(less) forward line ideas??
Personally I’d go the 3 mobile medium sized forwards that can take a grab and run a bit.
Wood, Sharman, Membrey
Has a degree of unpredictability (of where to go) and i reckon each could punish an opponent on a fast break or if the zone off and give up good positioning.
The challenge with moving Battle is that he is settled and the 3 talls down back were working pretty well together.
If you need to drop a tall, it’s pbly Marshall resting and Hayes at CHF when he’s back but the kid needs to be eased into it.
Personally… I think it would be a mistake to try and structure up like someone is going to take King’s place. No one else on this list is Max and they won’t be able to be.
May as well play different IMO

Re: New Maximum(less) forward line ideas??
Absolutely zero chance of Wood being a stay at home forward especially now that RL is in charge. Wood has probably one of the AFLs best athletic profiles suited to the modern day high half forward with elite 2 way running capacity to fly back into defence for cover.skeptic wrote: ↑Wed 07 Dec 2022 5:26pm Personally I’d go the 3 mobile medium sized forwards that can take a grab and run a bit.

And what evidence is there, if any to suggest Sharman just walks into best 22 for round 1, he was flat out getting a kick at Sandy.

Sheez, no he bloody didn't, but I need to see way more than a good leap and great running patterns, which incidently can be witnessed at any junior gymnastics hall on any given day.
Unfortunately his first few games set an unrealistic expectation of where he is at as a project player. It's childish to suggest I am against the kid because I'm being realistic about where he is at.
It's a bloody ruthless elite environment and sugar coating
a players potential is pointless.

It’s been suggested we try to get Josh Kennedy on a 12 month contract.

The BIG picture right now is to develop all of our younger players so that we can be a good team from 2024 on.

I’d rather us reach out to Paddy, ala GWS and Mummy. Re: New Maximum(less) forward line ideas??
His 2021 stats were 4 games for 10 goals. Worthy of some hype.
In 2022, this was 3 goals in 9 games. And with the exception of 1 game (WBD), had less than 5 marks a game. Just not good enough on that performance.
Has a huge upside but needs to deliver.

It will be good for the team in the long run. It may also give someone like Sharman a chance to cement a spot.

Re: New Maximum(less) forward line ideas??
Back line really settled last year and to me the idea of restructure again is set with danger. Battle finally allowed to settle had his best year. Howard was good until injured and Wilkie was tracking AA at the halfway point of the season.
Put up of ship off time for some - Sharman, Allison, time to deliver. Hayes back early on or perhaps Cordy can do a Liam Jones , but in reverse?
Ro needs to be allowed to bean 80% ruck/20% forward. Cambpell with the extra bench sub may play a bit. Might start seeing teams play a 2nd ruck and switch that in 3rd qtr. Ro rucks say 30-40% for first 2 and 1/2 qtrs then pretty much rest of the game.
Howard left Port as he didn't like being a forward, why upset the guy?
Or be creative, Collingwood don't have a big foward ( not Mason Cox)but medium size or smalls

That's a very perceptive and excellent observation OS, the Pies did really well without a big gun forward.older saint wrote: ↑Thu 08 Dec 2022 11:04am Back line really settled last year and to me the idea of restructure again is set with danger. But as I mentioned on another thread, I'd just as soon see them go in with a Campell/Marshall ruck combo with Membrey and Sharman as our 2 leading forwards that are very strong marks.

Re: New Maximum(less) forward line ideas??
If you lot think Sharman 'aint got the mustard,
why not try Battle as full-forward? Not a flanker, but a bona-fide full-forward of the charging-leading, mark out the front of a fast lead type?
Hear me out please.
1) He's fast in a straight line.
2) He's a beautiful kick.
3) He's strong and can charge.
4) He has good hands.
I think a Jason Dunstall type of full-forward.
Battle isn't exceptional in the following as far as my brilliant mind can tell,
5) He is caught out of position as a backman when in a man-minding kind of role.
6) He makes some iffy kicks out of the backline line under pressure.
7) He can't leap, so he plays short for his height.
This plan will need good low flat and sharp passes into F50.
Think Ayres, Platten and all those guys lace out to Dunstall
We have Hill, Higgo, Gresh and we have Harvs as assistant coach! How many times did we see Harv's beautifully weighted passes to Plugger!
Sorry, but I gotta say it (again)

Sharman hasn't shown enough to give me confidence that he can compete against elite defenders.
Battle has more games under his belt, and if the coaches can think up some decent tactics, Battle is the best option.
Hayes isn't experienced.
Battle+decent game plan (for forwards) would be our best chance of being competitive
