Re: Max King to miss months
Opportunity knocks for fringe forwards, but it's not like this is going to cost us a flag like 2010!
its time to make a name for yourself like you've never made before!

Well that sux. On a plus Sharman and Hayes will be given a perfect opportunity to show their value. Or maybe Ross will have a plan in place by round one. If not well it’s a good season to suck in as it’s meant to be a superdraft

At least he'll be back for the finals.
I once spent a year in Adelaide, I think it was on a Sunday.

Re: Max King to miss months
The Kings are all sticks.
Very injury prone, I fear.
Cannot be relied upon.
Probably a good thing in the long run and it forces us to find other options.

Agree. Not ideal, but it is going to force us to develop other options.Saintmike65 wrote: ↑Tue 06 Dec 2022 4:59pm It’s not the end of the world..if we’re going to be any good we have to have contingency plans.
We lost Rooey for 4 months in 2010 & made a grand final!
It creates an opportunity for someone, we will have to share the load for a change.

Re: Max King to miss months
Can't replace Max but for me the best option would be Cooper Sharman initially. Only around 193cm but he's got a great leap on him, great mark and great kick, strikes me as a natural full forward
Forget this business about him playing down back, the kid's a forward

Huge fan of Seb Loris what do you mean?
Less focus on grammar and more focus on the footy talk me thinks!!
But I multi task at the footy so can go any Ross!!
Both run like treacle..

Re: Max King to miss months
If we can learn to play good footy without King, then he can slot right in and lift the team another level.
We were already looking too focused on him with I50 entries, although you'd hope the coaching changes would help that.

Re: Max King to miss months
Had both recos
Knee in 2001 and shoulder in 2017
Recovery
Knee 12 months took a while to get confidence back but after a while it was almost like I never did it - a little unstable
Shoulder
Horrendous
5 years after the reco still no good
It’s a much more unstable joint (easy dislocate) and has a far greater range of movement.
Hopefully Max has a better time of it than I did!
BTW
My physio in recovery was the Socceroos physio from 2006, he knew what he was doing.
Fact is, it’s a broken joint - they are never the same after you do them!

If anyone actually thought King would play every game for the next 6 -8 years you are living in Honah Lee alongside Puff the Magic Dragon.
Of course its not ideal but it creates opportunity and enables us to formulate solid back-up plans if King ever went down
If we are forever in a position where we have to rely on one player to get us over the line then we can kiss goodbye that 2nd flag
Not great but hopefully we will be better for it in the long run

Re: Max King to miss months
IMO next year was always going to be a chance for RTB to look at the list see what works & what doesn't . I wasn't expecting miracles in 12 months & without Max for most if not all the season has made his job a little harder for sure, but we can't rely on one player to get the job done it has to be team effort .In 2023 all I really want to see is more determined team that gives 100% for 4 quarters win lose or draw & if we can achieve that it holds us in good stead for 2024

Re: Max King to miss months
No question it sucks.
Silver lining.
1. Expectations have now been managed
2. Opportunity for other players
3. Forces the shift away from targeting King too often.
I'm excited to see who steps up.
Logically I think Campbell comes in and he and RoMa spend some time forward alongside sharman, membrey, cordy/battle.
Paton, Howard, Wilkie
Sinclair, Battle, Clark
Hill, Gresham, McKenzie
Billings, Membrey, Cordy/Sharman
Butler, Marshall, Higgins
Campbell, Steele, Crouch
Wood
Ross
Windhager
Jones
Milera
Phillipou
Inj Hayes, Coffield, King

RTB gets to see what else?
And I agree next year is settling year for mine
We aren’t top 4 ready so do all we can to harden the group , systems etc and hit 2023 draft hard
2024 we start to rise with intent

Re: Max King to miss months
From Stav BF
At this stage, St Kilda anticipates King to miss at least the first month of next season, which could mean a return in time for the League's new round, which will be played in South Australia in round five.
From Josh Gabelich.
So good source.

Re: Max King to miss months
The club needs to resist the temptation to bring him back until he is 100% fit.
We could have lost half our matches at that point, but should not be desperate. Too risky.
The guys need to find a way to score goals without him.
If they can win some, then his return will surely boost us.
Maybe the injury has happened at the best (least unfortunate) time as any losses can be excused by not having our spearhead- and our expectations have been muted now.
No false hope

If he had get injured, better now than late March.
