SNAPSHOT: “An athletic, highly-skilled ruck/forward prospect who has plenty of X-factor.”
There’s not a lot of things on a football field that Isaac Keeler can’t do. The mercurial forward/ruck continues to flash the x-factor and match-winning ability that brings fans to games. Keeler has put together patches of brilliance throughout the year, most recently in the SANFL U18 Semi Final against Norwood. Keeler’s start to the second half set the tone for his side and his dominance through the middle and around the ground helped turn a quarter time deficit into a comfortable victory.
Spending large periods through the ruck for North Adelaide this season, Keeler does his best work as an extra midfielder in that part of the ground. His ability to read the opposing ruckman’s tap and win his own clearance helps shake up the midfield mix for his side. A capable leaper too, Keeler can rise above the opposition ruck and get first hand to the football. Averaging a touch under 18 disposals a game this season is a testament to his ability to win possession around the ground. Keeler is equally dangerous inside 50 where he’s a threat on the lead, in the air and below his knees.

Athletic forward-ruck hybrid Isaac Keeler is an exciting draft prospect that boasts plenty of upside.

Keeler's athletic build allows him to tower over his direct opponent while also bursting for the ball, whether that be in attack or through the middle as a ruckman.

The North Adelaide prospect was a part of Adelaide's Next Generation Academy, however, with his selection potentially coming in the opening round of the draft, the Crows opted against nominating the teenager.

Keeler strung together a strong season for the Roosters at the Under-18s level, booting 19 goals while also finding plenty of the ball, averaging 17.9 disposals, 4.2 marks, 3.3 clearances and 3.1 inside 50s from his 15 matches.

While his numbers at the National Chamiompioshp level weren't as strong, Keeler showed glimpses of why his range dips into the top 20 picks among his class.

Keeler has a large presence in the forward 50, but can create goals as if he was a foot smaller, showing off great agility and vision for goal.

Keeler would be an appealing draft target for a number of clubs seeking flexibility among their key-position depths, with Sydney, Hawthorn and North Melbourne potentially looking at the 198cm-tall talent.

Keeler may need a few seasons in the AFL system before being unleashed, with the young tall perhaps looking to build on his endurance and strength as he eyes a key-forward position in the top flight.

Geez. With a write up like that, I don’t know why we didn’t take him with our first pick.

They had the pick before us and didn’t take him so they shouldn’t be complaining

Yes depending on what you read, it’s high risk high reward.
Lots of reasons why he is a bargain and almost as many as to why buyer beware .

We have quite a large South Australian group at the club now,

although one (Jarrod Lienert) dropped off the list for this year.

Adelaide didn’t rate him.
Not physical enough and question marks around his training standards.

Interesting.

He is a speculative pick for sure but at pick 44 not too much risk involved . Indigenous boys will always feel the pull of family but hopefully with NWM & Hill at the club & Paddy just down the road he will feel comfortable & make the most of the opportunity

On raw talent alone he could've gone first round. Let's hope he thrives in a professional environment and fulfills his potential, because his highlight reel is absolutely nuts.

I really hope we have kept that door open for Paddy Ryder to remain a part of the club as well as in a role similar to what Betts performed at for Geelong last year.

I have to remind myself I'm reading about a teenage boy and not a 200 game seasoned veteran.

Imagine Keeler/King as the key forwards, if they can harness his talent, these gazelles would form an awesome duo up forward - Max Heath to be No.1 ruck

That was also the knock on Adam Goodes and why he slipped to #40 or thereabouts.

Fingers crossed that talent can be harnessed, but give him time. Has to be at least a 3-5 year project you would think.
