Re: Draft Target
Interesting, unless he slides to late teens I believe there are better picks for a Top 10. I hope MacKenzie. If not Ginbey or Tsatas if he becomes the ultimate slider.
Maybe we may deal with GWS on the night if Hewett has slid to 19???

Re: Draft Target
It would only be for our 2nd round picks if true. There are lots of talk getting about that he has off field issues - but WCE have spread rumours before about players they wanted at their pick.1965 Saint wrote: ↑Wed 23 Nov 2022 8:55pm We are after Elijah Hewett apparently (unless it’s a smokescreen!)

Re: Draft Target
I will lmao if St Kilda do it again
Ignore the obvious top 10 “Petracca” to only outsmart ourselves again
You just have to nail these picks ffs

He's very good defensively though and is a very good role player who can guard zones.

Re: Draft Target
Who cares who goes at 9
Brisbane will queue jump for Ashcroft, making St Kilda's pick No 10.

Re: Draft Target
I'd be very happy if they pick up Elijah Hewett, has that x-factor about him, don't mind him fancying himself, shouldn't every player? Buddy Franklin fancied himself as a kid but let his footy do the talking, reckon Hewett is in the same mould.
Fact is that in the 2021 draft, only 4 players, including Marcus Windhager at pick 47, played 18 or more games in their first season. The "pre-draft order" as such is not always right, it's like a blind date, you're never guaranteed to end up with a hot blond/hunk!

I tend to prefer it when they go for the best pick available

I think WCE might hope to get him with their third pick (20).

Re: Draft Target
I have to say that I’m very disappointed with this news. Of the names touted for our pick, Hewitt is by far the most underwhelming.
Nothing in the footage I’ve seen is indicative of any elite qualities. Decision making, disposal, attributes etc don’t in anyway shape or form look remotely better than ok. Strikes me a bit in the Paddy McCartin mould of standing out against lesser developed players - big fish small pond.
For me personally, I’m a much bigger of Cam McKenzie. Kid is supposed to be a ball winning mid but in addition to his consistency, seems to have a real knack for setting up plays with an inability to spread in addition to doing grunt work.
Seems tough, tackles, takes strong grabs for a mid but most of all, has excellent decision making… you watch his delivery forward and he consistently puts it to the advantage of the forwards, often making them go to the best place.
Easily top choice for me
Phillipou is harder to read for me. Is bigger and more explosive with that booming kick standing out. A lot to like there but the concern with a player like him is whether are ahead of the curve in development at the level. Many of these utility types often look good in multiple spots but don’t have the elite qualities for either role.
That said… he’s fast, tough and has a booming left foot kick so he’s a huge step on Hewitt for me

Re: Draft Target
This close to the draft most Phantom drafts know who the clubs are targetting.
The HUN phantom draft has St Kilda taking Busslinger from W.A. at 10, overlooking MacKenzie who goes to West Coast at 14.

Re: Draft Target
If you select the wrong cattle at the draft you can always use the excuse "we don't have the talent to win a premiership".
But when you pick wisely you lose that excuse.
Seems the club like to stuff up their drafting.

Re: Draft Target
For once
Just select the player we should select
Recruiting dickheads trying to outsmart themselves to look a hero. It gives me the s***s!
We do another ‘McCartin’ and it will set us back - again!!!
You MUST nail first round picks!!!!

Re: Draft Target
I'd be more than happy if we picked up Hewitt, his highlight reel shows off his power, speed and tenacity - saw him interviewed and he has an old head on young shoulders, very mature and VERY driven to succeed. You're half way there with those qualities...Sanctorum wrote: ↑Thu 24 Nov 2022 11:03am I'd be very happy if they pick up Elijah Hewett, has that x-factor about him, don't mind him fancying himself, shouldn't every player? So much speculation and scuttlebutt this time of year.
