Training Report
Had a look today
Coaches Present
Lyon, Harvey, Enright, Goddard, Carroll, Bachelor
Misson, Walsh
Kosi was there too, having lunch
Most vocal - Harvey
Most involved - Goddard (he was like a kid in a candy shop!)
Lyon - completely hands off - just prowling around - like a Lyon!
Players
Crouch, Hill, King
Bytel, Byrnes, Sharman, Heath, Peris, Wanganeen Milera, Heath, Highmore, Owens l, Allison
Rehab
Hayes and Coffield there
In the Gym
Gresham
Watching
Connolly and Sinclair
In the pool
Butler and Adams
Lots of small drills in small groups and rotating
One bigger drill - bringing the ball into forward line
Harvey - with forwards
Hayes and Goddard with mids
Kicking at goal - abysmal- going well under 50%
Peris looks like he will be a small forward
Of 5 shots he missed 4 all from inside 25
Cooper and King went about 50%
NWM and Hill played outside
Bytel, Byrnes, Owens, Crouch inside
Heath - very tall - same as King - bit ungainly and Raw
King - obviously high level ability - too casual- lack intensity- awesome specimen- if he gets rid of the yips will kick 100 imo
Sharman has skill but lacks athleticism
Highmore great contested mark - poor kick
They finished with running
Clear leaders - Windhager (trimmed down) and Hill (aerobic beast)
Then Byrnes and Allison
Then the rest
King and Heath last - King is average aerobically.
In general-
Impressed with coaching
Talent/skill was not great
Is there going to be a time when Byrnes and Bytel step up or are the just 2s players???
In fact
Crouch - for a contested ball pig - is not big at all (lean)
Bytel has also trimmed right down.
NWM is a rake - calves the size of index fingers
Overall
It was almost a Sandringham session
They looked in good shape though

Re: Training Report
Great report - thanks!
On Sharman do you refer to his lateral movement?
His leap is elite and that could well be considered athleticism.
Sounds like form that very small sample size Cooper will be training with the forwards.
Great to see Hill at the front of the running group & Windhager hasn't gotten ahead of himself after a good year 1.
Allison is a surprise, obviously has pretty good wheels.

Re: Training Report
Yes. Great Report B.M
How did you know Butler and Adams were in the pool? Did they come out on the ground with their budgie smugglers?
Surely all that info comes from a source/s and not just your good self standing on the outer watching with one set of eyesIn the gym - Gresham ….In the pool - Butler and Adams

I was also there and can confirm everything BM reported on, including watching Butler and Adams walking to the DFC with towels over their shoulders.

Re: Training Report
Thanks for your answers B.M
And again, what a great effort with this thread
Great to see senior players returning early to join with 1st to fourth year players
Let’s hope they spend just as much time with footy’s in hand as they do on their strength and conditioning
I know it’s an early (and obvious call) but we need to improve our kicking skills if we’re going to challenge for a spot in the 8 next year

Re: Training Report
Thanks for the report.
Can you explain a little about how you formed these impressions?
I thought Highmore was a decent kick until he shanked a few in that dreadful Round 14 apocalyptic Essendon meltdown of the season.
Sharman lacks athleticism?
Can't make repeated efforts? Chase, run and carry?
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Thanks for the report BM.
You make no mention of Campbell - was he training? There were photos of him training with the group on Monday, so I thought he may have been there this monrning.
If he was there how did he go in the running drill cf Heath & King?

Re: Training Report
I had a brief chat to him in Bali recently....he was off on a run.
I then saw him on another 4 occasions (4 different times) running.
Hopefully this shows his mindset is focused on the coming season...
Despite the noise, he is very important for us.

Re: Training Report
Campbell was not training
A couple of others like Battle weren’t there either from Monday
Sharman is almost the opposite of Allison

Not sure why Ross would say hi?
DC did say gday. But that’s because I have known him for years and he lives nearby

Re: Training Report
Thanks B.M...unfortunately won't be getting down to any sessions before the new year.
I'm not too concerned about NWM's legs, I look forward to his upper body filling out though because he'll be a fair size and hard to match up on once his tank improves.
How did Peris look to you? Size, speed, work ethic?

Re: Training Report
Thanks for the report BM, a great read.
Surprised to hear about Sharman, I thought he would be more mobile than that. It is the first week of pre season, if he has been working on his strength/size in the down time it might explain some of his sluggisness?
If they can get Allison to start finding some footy he has the ohysical traits to become a player.
